Ensconced amidst the third and fourth arrondissements (or districts), Le Marais is one of the oldest and hippest districts in Paris. It was once the home of the late, great French author Victor Hugo, the Parisian penman of both “Les Misérables” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”. The intimate courtyards, impressive stone architecture, and cobblestone streets are reminiscent of medieval Paris.
This neighborhood was once the residence of French Royalty. The city’s oldest square, the Place des Vosges was built under the orders of King Henry IV. Louis XIV called this district home until he relocated to Versailles.
