1. Wiebbe Hayes Stone Fort, Australia

There’s little more than a stack of coral and limestone blocks remaining of Australia’s oldest structure. Found on West Wallabi Island, it dates back to 1629. What’s most fascinating is the history here.

It’s a dark, torrid tale of murder, mutiny at sea, and a shattering shipwreck. Spend some time at the popular Museum of Geraldton and learn of this wreck and the bloody battles that ensued. You can also charter a boat and sail to the fort just off the mainland and experience history for yourself.

2. Fortaleza Ozama, Dominican Republic

Famous explorer Christopher Columbus was once a prisoner here at this fort completed in 1508. It is located at the official entrance to Santo Domingo’s Ciudad Colonial. The fortress overlooks its namesake, the Ozama River.

It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will travel back through the mists of time after the first stone was set in 1502. Explore all the various chambers, dungeons, and tunnels that remain of this Spanish castle-like fort. Thus, it’s officially the very first “permanent military structure” anywhere in the Americas.

3. Acoma Pueblo, USA

Situated in Albuquerque,  New Mexico and originally thought to have been founded in 1150, this historic pueblo was designated to be the “oldest continuously inhabited community” in the USA. It has, however, been the subject of more recent excavations that lend credence to the possibility it could date back even earlier. Now almost 50 members of the Acoma tribe live in “Sky City.”  It’s thus named because it seems to be precariously perched atop a 367-foot mesa. They have no smartphones, no electricity or running water and live as their ancestors did.

4. Cuicuilco, Mexico

This ancient ceremonial center and archaeological site is located on the shore of well-known Lake Texcoco in the Valley of Mexico, in famous Mexico City. The moss-covered lava blocks and stones of this temple are in danger of being reclaimed by the earth as the weeds and green grass peeking out between the stones indicates. The Cuicuilco Pyramid harkens back to 2000 BC. (Cuicuilco is Nahuatl for “place of songs.”) The residents of this place were the first to record the sun’s movements, thus initiating the creation of the first calendar.

5. Borchgrevink’s Hut, Antarctica

This structure is noteworthy for both its significant place in the exploration of this continent and because it was the very first man-made structure built here. Because of the strong offshore winds and heavy surf Cape Adare is one of the most inhospitable landing sites in Antarctica. It was in 1899 that Norwegian Commander Carsten Borchgrevink erected two huts so that he and his team could be the first expedition to spend the night in Antarctica. Visitors can still see the original huts and their remaining contents there today.

6. Pyramid of Djoser, Egypt

Also known as the Step Pyramid, this pyramid is located in the ancient Saqqara necropolis, northwest of Memphis. It predates the world-famous Great Pyramid of Giza by several hundred years. It’s also the planet’s “oldest still-standing stone building.”

The man-made pyramid was constructed between 2667 and 2648 BC for the Egyptian pharaoh Djoser who ruled during the nation’s third dynasty. This step pyramid has a total of six layers that have been restored over a period of 14 years. Finally open to the public, travelers can now wander through the pyramid.

7. Caral-Supe, Peru

The sacred city of Caral-Supe (or simply Caral) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 150-acre plot of homes, plazas, and pyramids is located on an arid desert terrace that overlooks the valley of the Supe River. Archaeologists unearthed a reed carrying bag that dates back to the Late Archaic period which started in 3000 BC.

Therefore, it’s the Americas’ oldest civilization, and one of the oldest on the planet. The previously-mentioned river determines how easily travelers can get to this place according to the country’s wet or dry season.

8. Dholavira, India

This archaeological site is situated at Khadirbet in Bhachau Taluka of Kutch District, in Gujarat in India. It’s a man-made Harappan city isolated from modern-day civilization by the well-known salt plains of Rann of Kachchh. It was rediscovered in 1956.

It’s named after a contemporary village only 1 kilometer to the south. Researchers agree this ancient locale was probably occupied from 2650 BC to 1450 BC. The defensive fortifications, grid-like streets, and advanced drainage systems might very well be one of the first examples of early city planning.

9. Göbekli Tepe, Turkey

Located in Turkey’s Southeastern Anatolia Region, this archaeological site is roughly 12 kilometers or seven miles away from Şanlıurfa. Experts say this is the first man-made temple on the planet. First discovered some time in the 1960s, it was originally dismissed as being little more than a medieval cemetery.  In 1994, a German archaeologist named Klaus Schmidt visited this place and found that it went all the way back to 9500 BC. Researchers report it was first inhabited in the 10th millennium BCE. This place, known to some as “the oldest town in the world”, played an important role in Levantine archaeological history. 6. The Everglades, USA

The 2.5 million-acre wetland known as the Everglades is found in the state of Florida. This diverse area includes mangroves, savannahs, and swamps. It’s also the only place on the planet where crocodiles and alligators coexist.

This is the second-largest rainforest on the planet. Researchers report that approximately 2 million acres of rainforest are lost annually. There are numerous reasons for this including civil warfare, logging, mining, and ranching.

9. The Dead Sea, Israel

The Dead is said to be the saltiest place on Earth. It’s a center of health research.  It’s also the only feeder for the famous Jordan River. In the past 40 years, it has been irreversibly damaged by mineral mining from cosmetic companies and even farmers.

The ice fields high up on Kilimanjaro are said to be the “ultimate destination” for mountain climbers. Unfortunately, scientific data indicates that the ice atop Africa’s highest mountain has been slowly receding by one percent each year since 1912. Ice stopped accumulating there 20 years ago.

The ice melts and the dark soil is exposed. This soil actually absorbs more heat, making the glaciers melt faster. At the present rate of decline, the glaciers will be gone in 15 years.

The 2005 DreamWorks smash-hit animated film really put this place on the map. Unfortunately, the odds of you spotting its endemic, adorable lemurs on this large isle off the east coast of Africa aren’t good. This is the only place you have a chance of seeing them in the wild too.

Farming for charcoal and firewood and recurring fires have really whittled down the forest here. At last count, only 10 percent of the original expansive forest remains untouched. This further threatens the lemurs that are already at risk because of poaching.

These hot springs are situated in Rajgir in the beautiful state of Bihar. Originating from the Saptaparni Cave, the Rajgir Hot Springs water spouts out of seven individual streams. Because of the water’s rich mineral content, this water has impressive curative properties. Of additional interest, is the fact that these hot springs are considered to be sacred to the Buddhists, Hindus, and Jains. Here there are even separate bathing spots for women and men.

4. Grand Prismatic Spring, USA

Ensconced in the popular Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Prismatic Spring is one of Wyoming’s thousands of hot springs. This one was formed on a true hotspot. The boiling lake here is quite rich in minerals.
Its coloration is unique and varies from red to green not unlike the rainbow-like dispersion created by an optical prism. The color can be impacted by the temperature, carotenoid, and chlorophyll levels too. It’s mainly the result of various bacterial activity along the water’s edge.

3. The Boiling Lake, West Indies

Speaking of boiling lakes, this is perhaps the most famous one. The Boiling Lake is found in the island nation of Dominica, in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the famous Caribbean Sea. More specifically, it is situated in the UNESCO World Heritage Site and tourist spot the Morne Trois Pitons National Park.
The Boiling Lake is also the world’s second-largest natural hot water spring. Surrounded by huge, high cliffs, the blue-grey water is perpetually boiling. A mysterious cloud of vapor constantly envelops the lake as the water bubbles away.

2. Frying Pan Lake, New Zealand

It’s much lesser used name is The Waimangu Cauldron. You will find it in the well-known Echo Crater of New Zealand’s Waimangu Volcanic Rift Valley. It’s the world’s largest natural hot spring. At its widest point, it is 200 meters.
The water here is naturally acidic. The temperature fluctuates between 50 and 60 °C. Interestingly, this particular spring can be found in Waimangu along a wheelchair-accessible walkway.

Also known as Preikestolen, Pulpit Rock is one of Norway’s “most visited natural tourist attractions.” This massive, steep cliff rises 604 meters (1,981+ feet) above lovely Lysefjorden, across from the Kjerag plateau, situated in Forsand, Ryfylke. Many people travel all over the world for their love of architecture.  Some say it is an art that is “appreciated by many” but “perfected by” a previous few.  Some may claim that constructing a residence takes not only imagination but craftsmanship.  (Of course, architects rarely build the actual building themselves but you get the point.)

We did some research and took a good look at the world’s most incredible buildings.  We chose and charted the top 30 of the most beautiful buildings in the world.  Check them out and let us know how many of them you have already visited.

30.  Château de Chambord, France

Situated in Chambord, Loir-et-Cher, France, the famous Château de Chambord is one of the most recognizable châteaux on the planet.  This is mainly due to its quite distinctive architecture.  It combines classical Renaissance structures with traditional French medieval forms.

Construction went on for 28 years.  The building was never actually completed.  It was originally a hunting lodge for King Francis I.  Reportedly designed by Italian architect Domenico da Cortana, Leonardo da Vinci was rumored to be involved too.

29.  Berlin Cathedral, Germany

The official name of the Berlin Cathedral is the Evangelical Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church.  It is ensconced on the well-known Museum Island located in the Mitte borough.  The building travelers visit today was finished in 1905. 

It is also said to be one of the most significant Historicist architectural works of Germany’s “Kaiserzeit.”  This structure actually consists of four buildings that were constructed on different dates between the year 1451 and 1905.  The most recent renovations occurred in 1993.

28.  Westminster Abbey, United Kingdom

The large mostly Gothic church Westminster Abbey is situated in Westminster, London, England just west of the famous Palace of Westminster.  It was once named the Collegiate Church of St. Peter at Westminster.  Unfortunately, it lost its official abbey or cathedral around 1560.
Once a Benedictine monastic church, it is now an official “Royal Peculiar” church that is responsible only to the sovereign.  It is the official burial site and coronation location for British monarchs.

27.  Catherine Palace, Russia

This stunning Rococo palace is situated in the city of Tsarskoye Selo which is less than 19 miles (30 kilometers) south of famous St. Petersburg.  It is one of the city’s main attractions too.  Indeed, this grandiose building was built in 1717 as a summer home for such Russian tsars as Catherine I.  On the roof you will see gleaming statues made of 100 kilograms of gold.  Veteran visitors can confirm that you must not miss the Amber Room.

26.  Paro Taktsang, Bhutan

Opened in 1692, Paro Taktsang is a famous site considered sacred by the Buddhists.  The actual temple complex is ensconced within the upper Paro Valley cliffside.  Also known as the Tiger’s Nest, this Himalayan monastery is also pretty close to the popular Taktsang Senge Samdup cave.  It was here that the locals claim a guru meditated for a total of “three years, three months, three days, and three hours” in the 700s.  This guru is credited for introducing the Buddhist faith to the country and the monastery was dedicated to him.

25.  St. Peter’s Basilica, Italy

Located in Vatican City, this is where Saint Peter, Rome’s first bishop and one of Jesus Christ’s twelve apostles, was buried.  Many visitors are actually unaware that this church is not the Diocese of Rome.  It is also not the official “mother church of Catholicism.”  Nevertheless, it is the world’s largest church and reportedly Christendom’s “most important” one.  A number of Popes have been buried there because of its legendary connection to Jesus Christ.

24.  Bourges Cathedral, France

Located in the city of Bourges, the Bourges Cathedral is a popular Roman Catholic church.  It is the official seat of Bourges’ Archbishop.  The church is also dedicated to Saint Stephen. 
The original building was constructed over a period of 35 years (from 1195 to 1230).  It features both Romanesque and Gothic styles of architecture.  What travelers actually see today, however, is largely a replacement.  The remains of the original structure can be viewed inside the crypt of the current church.

23.  Big Ben, United Kingdom

Big Ben is the nickname of both the giant clock and the clocktower located at the palace of Westminster’s north end.  This famous tourist site in London, England was once known only as the Clock Tower.  English folks celebrated the neo-gothic tower’s 150th anniversary in 2009.  In 2012 it was officially rechristened the Elizabeth Tower as a way of celebrating the official Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.  Big Ben remains a “must see” for anyone traveling to London.

22.  Vienna Opera House, Austria

As part of Vienna’s expansion plans, this Neo-Renaissance building was erected in 1869.  The designer was the popular Czech architect Josef Hlávka.  Originally known as the Vienna Court Opera, the Vienna State Opera is a famous opera house and company based located in Vienna. 
In 1920, the First Austrian Republic replaced the Habsburg Monarchy.  One of the changes put into place was to rename the opera house the Vienna State Opera.  The famous Vienna Philharmonic recruits its members from the opera house’s orchestra.

21.  Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, Russia

Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral is located in St. Petersburg within the Peter and Paul Fortress.  It is a Russian Orthodox cathedral and the first and oldest landmark in the city of St. Petersburg.  Both the fortress and the actual cathedral were constructed between 1712 and 1733.
The designer was Domenico Trezzini.  He was working under the direction of ruler Peter the Great.  This is also the home of the world’s tallest orthodox belfry or bell tower.  It is 122 meters (over 400 feet) high.

20.  Hagia Sophia, Turkey

Construction of the well-known Hagia Sophia occurred in several phases.  It all began in 537 AD.  It was originally a Greek Orthodox Christian cathedral.  During the Ottoman Empire, the cathedral was converted to a mosque. 
At present, the building is a popular museum.  It’s home, Istanbul, also went through a lot of changes.  It has been named Augusta Antonia, Byzantium, Constantinople, Lygos, New Rome, and more.  It’s most famous for its huge dome and Byzantine architecture.

19.  Potala Palace, China

Today the Potala Palace is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site and a museum.  Situated in Lhasa, Tibet, China, this was once the home of the legendary Dalai Lama prior to the infamous  Tibetan uprising back in the 1950s.  The palace took its name from Mount Potalaka.  Mount Potalaka is the mythical residence of the  bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, who reportedly “encompasses the compassion of all Buddhas.”  In English the word Potala would be “brilliance.”

18.  The Cologne Cathedral, Germany

This Catholic cathedral found in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia is the country’s most popular tourist attraction.  Also, the official seat of the Archbishop of Cologne, over 20,000 tourists explore the building every day.  Construction on this medieval marvel started in 1248 but was halted in 1473.
Construction would not resume until some time in 1840.  The cathedral would not actually be finished until 1880.  Today it is the home of the Three Kings or Three Wise Men relics.

17.  The Eiffel Tower, France

Ensconced on the famous Champ de Mars in Paris, this famous French icon is a wrought-iron lattice tower.  It was erected in 1889 and meant to serve as the marker for the main entrance for the World’s Fair that year.  It was designed by Gustave Eiffel.
Immediately after it was finished it became the object of derision of both the French intelligentsia and Paris art community.  It was supposed to be torn down two decades after the fair.  Eiffel argued the structure had a scientific purpose so city officials decided to let it stand.  Today it is the city’s most popular tourist attraction.

16.  Angkor Wat, Southeast Asia

The temple complex Angkor Wat (in English “City of Temples”) was constructed circa 1125.  Located in Cambodia it is one of the planet’s biggest religious monuments.  The Khmer Empire (eighth to 15th centuries CE) intended it to be a Hindu temple that was specifically dedicated to the god Vishnu.  The stone temple’s architecture is a distinctive blend of both galleried temple and temple-mountain styles.  (Both were relatively new at that time.)

15.  The Parthenon, Greece

This was once a temple on the famous Athenian Acropolis.  It was built in honor of the Greek Goddess of Strategy who was the legendary patron of the residents of Athens.  Ground was broken in 447 BC at the peak of the Athenian Empire’s power.
It was finished in 438 BC.  Decorations and additions went on until some time in 432 BC.  During the Persian invasion, the original monument was actually destroyed and the Parthenon replaced it.

14.  The Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família, Spain

Similar to the above-mentioned Château de Chambord, this Roman Catholic church in Barcelona is also technically incomplete.  Construction on this place of worship started in 1882.  Financial limitations limited the progress of the work.  The infamous Spanish Civil War brought a stop to the construction.  Although the work is still not officially complete as this goes to press, the structure is still quite beautiful.

13.  Sacré-Cœur, France

In English, the name of this structure is “sacred heart.”  Thus the building is essentially the “Sacred Heart of Paris.”  It is a minor basilica and Roman Catholic church and was built in memory of the socialist Paris Commune of 1871 and the losses suffered during the Franco-Prussian War.  It is located at Paris’ highest point on the Montmartre butte.  From here you can enjoy a stunning view of the city.

12.  Florence Cathedral, Italy

The full name of this cathedral is the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore.  In English, it is “Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower.”  Ground was broken on this UNESCO World Heritage Site in Florence in 1296.
It would be 140 years before it would be finished.  The structure was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio.  The bricked dome of the building, however, was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi.  It is the largest of its kind on the planet.

11.  City of Petra, Jordan

Petra was founded by the Nabataeans possibly as long ago as 9,000 BC.  It was probably born of its closeness to the ancient Incense trade route which once ran from the popular Levant through India and Arabia.  At one point it was home to almost 20,000 people.  In 306 AD an earthquake devastated the city and it was abandoned.  It was rediscovered in 1812.

10.  Notre-Dame de Paris, France

Notre-Dame de Paris (in English “Our Lady of Paris”) took about a century to build.  Construction ran from 1160 to 1260.  It is considered by many to be perhaps the very best example of  French Gothic Architecture in the world.  Much of the original structure was destroyed during the French Revolution.  Renovations would not begin until 1831 following the publication of Victor Hugo’s famous The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

9.  Saint Basil’s Cathedral, Russia

The construction on Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Red Square in Moscow was initiated in 1555 by none other than the infamous Ivan the Terrible.  First known as the Trinity Church, it included a total of eight churches surrounding a ninth with a tenth one added later.  Its design is unique with domes that some have previously described as “a bonfire rising to the sky.”

8.  Machu Picchu, Peru

Situated in the rugged Andes Mountains, Machi Picchu is undoubtedly the most famous Inca archaeological site on the planet.  It was erected in 1450 but totally abandoned in 1550 because of the Spanish Conquest.  This is also a popular UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It includes the well-known ritual stone known as Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows.  It was restored in the 1980s.

7.  The Louvre Palace, France

The Louvre Palace is can be found on the Right Bank of the well-known Seine in Paris.  Erected in 1202 as a medieval fortress, it is between the olden church of Saint-Germain l’Auxerrois and the beautiful Tuileries Gardens. In the 1300s Charles V converted it into a palace.  It was next used as the Paris residence of the later kings of France.  In 1793 it was turned into a museum and opened to the public.

6.  The Hungarian Parliament Building, Hungary

Completed in 1906, the Hungarian Parliament Building is located in Kossuth Square on the bank of the famous Danube in the Pest side of Budapest.  It required 100,000 workers almost two decades to build this popular landmark and tourist attraction.  They used 40 million bricks, 88 pounds of gold and 500,000 assorted precious stones.  It’s definitely a “must see.”

5.  Mont Saint-Michel Castle, France

The Mont Saint-Michel Castle in Normandy is found amidst a unique representation of the feudal system.  Society’s lowest level is represented by the homes of the farmers and fishermen.  The monastery and abbey represent God.  The castle has survived the Hundred Years’ War.  King Louis XI later converted it to a prison.  It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Roughly 50 people still live there.

4.  Milan Cathedral Duomo, Italy

Completed in 1965, the Milan Cathedral Duomo to nearly 600 years to complete.  The first basilica was constructed in 355 but was terribly damaged in a fire in 1075.  This cathedral replaced it and is the fourth largest church on the planet.  It is centrally located in Lombardy.  Tourists take note that all the local streets either circle or originate from this site.

3.  The Palace Of Versailles, France

Less than 20 kilometers (12+ miles) southwest of the heart of Paris, is the Palace of Versailles.  Louis XIV moved into the place in 1682.  He lived there until the famous French Revolution in 1789.  The palace includes the royal apartments an opera, a private park, a canal, gardens, flower beds and the Hall of Mirrors.  It was trashed in the French Revolution and later restored.

2.  Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany

Located in southwest Bavaria, The Neuschwanstein Castle was commissioned by Ludwig II, the King of Bavaria, in 1869.  He paid for it from his own personal fortune.  He died in 1886 before construction was actually completed.  The architectural style, called “castle romanticism”, was inspired by a pair of castles that Ludwig thought were reminiscent of the Middle Ages.

1.  The Taj Mahal, India

In English, the name “Taj Mahal” translates to “Crown of the Palaces.”  Found in the city of Agra, ground was broken in 1632.  Construction took 21 years.  The cost to build it was 32 million rupees or the equivalent of 8 hundred million dollars at that time.gardens and a partially-surrounding crenelated wall.  The work was overseen by a group of architects headed up by Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.

There are more ancient cities now underwater than you might imagine. Over the years, some of these submerged civilizations have been explained. Others, however, have remained mysteries. Thanks to modern-day technology, we have the ability to see them and bring them to life again. Here then, without further adieu, are 10 of the most mysterious underwater cities of the ancient world.

1. Dwarka, India

Dwarka is referenced in the Hindus’ holy book. This once “mythological” metropolis was thought to have been built by none other than Lord Krishna 5000 years ago. It was also thought to have many palaces.

Many were said to have been made with precious silver and gold. Its ruins were more recently discovered by the famous National Institute of Ocean Technology in the Gulf of Khambhat. Using carbon dating, researchers determined that this ancient city is approximately 9,000 years old. Today it’s one of India’s biggest tourist attractions.

2. Shicheng, China

Also known as “the Lion City,” this place was thought to be at least 1300 years old. In 1959 the city was flooded because the government was constructing a dam on the famous Xin’an River. The end result was the Qiandao Lake.
Shicheng was constructed in 25-200 AD during the Eastern Hand Dynasty. It’s ancient buildings and other structures are thus highlighted by rich Chinese craftsmanship. Indeed, it features several stone structures, five gates, and 265 memorial arches. Because the diving routes have aren’t fully mapped, only trained divers are permitted to visit.

3. Gulf of Cambay, India

This ancient city is located nearly 4.m under the sea. The research team discovered this mysterious metropolis as an accidental result of their study of the amount of water pollution there in 2002. It is thought to be 5,000 years old. A team of divers discovered beads, sculptures, and pieces of pottery there. Scientists believe this place must have once been situated in a coastal area that was engulfed by rising ocean water after numerous glaciers melted during the last ice age.

4. Pavlopetri, Greece

Discovered back in 1967, the true name of this sunken city still remains unknown. Scientists believe that whatever it was called, it was part of Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula prior to sinking roughly 5,000 years ago. Divers discovered an entire community from streets to tombs in a place considered by some to be a Mycenaean civilization. Other archaeologists believe the city could actually be part of a Minoan civilization. Indeed, at last report, the undersea site was being studied by teams from both the University of Nottingham and the University of Cambridge.

5. Olous, Greece

Many snorkelers and divers have already explored the ruins of the ancient city of Olous. It is believed to once have been on the northeastern end of Crete. It was reportedly home to between 30,000 and 40,000 people.
One ancient outer wall remains above water level. In fact, floors, murals, and coins have also been discovered there. The research team thinks that an extremely powerful earthquake may have caused the city to drop beneath the waves.

Whether one calls it Thonis or Heracleion, experts say that this underwater city is one of the oldest cities known to man. Over the years it has become the subject or setting of many different legends. One such legend claims that the god Hercules was named Heracleion because of Hercules’ visit to the city.
Helen of Troy also was said to have visited the city. Founded some time in the 8th Century BC, it once played an important religious role because it was here that the temple of Amun was built. Natural catastrophes are blamed for its submersion.

Lake Titicaca is one of the world’s highest lakes. Locals consider it to be sacred. The Akakor Geographical diving team found a number of different walls, roads, and terraces in this 1500-year-old underwater city.
They also discovered a temple that was originally 200 meters high. Experts are still uncertain as to what sunk this city. It’s also referred to as Also known as “the Birthplace of the Incas.” Inca mythology reports that the first Inca king, Manco Capac, was born at this lake. Also known as “the Birthplace of the Sun”, because local legend has it that the god Viracocha rose from this spot to create the stars, the sun, and the first humans.

8. The Pyramid of Yonaguni, Japan

The Pyramid of Yonaguni was discovered in 1985. Located in one of the world’s greatest lost submerged cities, this monument was found by dive tour operator Kihachiro Aratake. Archaeologists have examined the man-made pyramid and have determined it is part of the fabled lost Pacific civilization known as Mu.
Researchers report the structure is 10,000 years old. It has a design similar to that of pyramids in Central America. The rock formation is called “Jacques eyes” or “the face” because it looks like a huge head.

Also known as Thonis-Heracleion, this mysterious metropolis is reported to be more than 1,200 years old. Sunken off the northern coast of Egypt, it was originally located close to the Canopic Mouth of the famous Nile River. It is one of the oldest places in the Mediterranean. Divers have found numerous things including coins, anchors and a stele. Everything discovered there in inscribed in Egyptian or ancient Greek. Often mentioned by a number of Greek historians, it grew in importance during the final days of the famous Pharaohs.

10. Port Royal, Jamaica

Founded by the Spanish in the year 1518, the village of Port Royal is situated in Kingston Harbor. Once famous for privateers and pirates alike, it currently includes 2000 buildings and four different forts. Once the largest city in the entire Caribbean, it was reportedly built partially on silt. It is believed that a big earthquake and accompanying tsunami on June 7 in 1692 was responsible for sinking a significant portion of the original city into the Caribbean.
