44. Imperial Summer Palace

15 kilometers out of Beijing is the Imperial Summer Palace or “Yíhé Yuán.” Ensconced amidst 700+ acres of beautiful parkland, the palace was erected in 1153. In the 1300s a big lake was created to accent the popular Imperial Gardens. You’ll also find the Great Theatre and the Renshou Dian (Hall of Well-being and Longevity).
