88. Five Flower Lake, China

Five Flower Lake is ensconced in Jiuzhaigou National Park, situated in the southwestern province of Jiuzhaigou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is highlighted by multi-level waterfalls that are visited by millions of travelers yearly. The lake is famous for its crystal clear multicolored water. At least five different colors can be seen herein due to a variety of local algae, the calcium sediments on the lake bottom and the colorful reflections of the surrounding trees. The best time to visit is in October when the colorful foliage makes it even more beautiful.

  1. Hi!
I have been to Lake Tahoe and while I personally enjoy the place it did not make the top 10 list so I could not write about it. thanks for your comment and thanks for reading my stuff!

  2. I’m surprised Lake Tahoe did not make the list. In 2017 it had an average annual clarity of 59.7 ft (as measured by a Secchi disk where it disappears).

A few decades ago while canoeing Lake Tahoe with a friend, I dove in at the request of my friend to reach some fool’s gold on the sandy bottom just a few feet below the canoe. Or so we thought. I could dive to about 10′ but gave up and came back up for air. We had some string, tied a rock to it, and dropped it down. It did not reach bottom with 30′ of string.

  3. Hello!
I know, right? The folks who made the call simply did not list it in the top 10. It would have easily made it into the top 20 though for sure. Remember too with a lot of these lists it includes the entire world and not simply one continent.
    Thanks for reading my stuff!

  4. Hi!
The world is a big place. I am pretty sure that I have written about that place elsewhere if that is any consolation. No doubt it would have made the cut had the list been longer.
Thanks for your support and please keep reading!

  5. Hi!
If you did not see any lake in North America then I suggest you read the entire article as there is one on the list. Thanks for your support,

  6. Bitter Springs in the Northern Territory, Australia. Also Katherine Hot springs in the NT, Australia. They are both crystal clear.

  7. Hi!
If they have me write a sequel, I will suggest those two places. Australia does have a lot of great places to see. Thanks for your comment and for reading my stuff!

  8. Hi!
Lake Tahoe has been mentioned i other articles. It just did not make this particular list. (If I had been given a higher word count limit though I would have slipped it in under “honorable mention.” Thanks for your comment and for reading my stuff!

  9. Thank you for your article. I live about 30 minutes from lake Ontario. We camp up at sandy pond a very well known place in my part of the world. I say it’s like the ocean without sharks and jellyfish lol I love this list you provided! It gives me other places to have more bucket list adventures!!!
