<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the Mediterranean, there are about 10,000 lovely islands. Every summer, millions of tourists flock there to enjoy the great weather, pristine beaches, and mouthwatering cuisine. The wonderful cities, fine dining, and enjoyable watersports on these Mediterranean islands are also highlights. Here then, in reverse order, are the 23 most <a href="https://youtu.be/1hZNC4ij1xM?si=cGIUfw5zjgVGTWxs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">beautiful islands</a> in the Mediterranean. </span></p>
<h4><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 23 Most Beautiful Islands In The Mediterranean </span></i></h4>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">23. Ischia, Italy</span></h2>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17792" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/23-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/23-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/23-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/23-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/23-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Italy&#8217;s Ischia is a volcanic island that is located off the coast of Naples. With tiny towns and historic castles standing together along its rocky shores, it has dramatic scenery. The main attraction is Castello Aragonese, a fortified castle perched atop a rocky, rugged islet. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ischia is home to lovely beaches, healing hot springs, beautiful gardens to explore, delectable regional cuisine, and a long history that dates back to ancient times. For those who want to take in the splendor of Italy&#8217;s islands, it is the ideal location. Visit from May through September. You’ll beat the crowds and the heat too! </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">22. Menorca, Spain</span></h2>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17793" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/22-2.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/22-2.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/22-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/22-2-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/22-2-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/22-2-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of Spain&#8217;s Balearic Islands, Menorca, is a wonderful place to spend some time. Of the entire archipelago, it’s the quietest and arguably the most authentic. Its most appealing feature is its undeveloped coast and beaches. The intriguing archaeological sites on Menorca are home to mysterious T-shaped stone monuments called &#8220;Taulas,&#8221; which date back thousands of years. It also has the vast Lithica Quarry to explore, which features a fun maze, lovely gardens, and an animal sanctuary. The Lithica Quarry hosts concerts in the summer. The rich history and culture of Menorca have been preserved, and there are fantastic festivals and local cuisine to enjoy. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">21. Krk, Croatia</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17794" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/21-2.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/21-2.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/21-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/21-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/21-2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Krk, the largest island in the Adriatic, is situated in the enormous Bay of Kvarner, just south of Rijeka. Numerous fantastic hiking, biking, and watersports are available. You can take in breathtaking views of the mountains, coast, and sea as you explore its rolling hills and bays. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Most of Krk is quite rocky and hilly, but its landscapes are ideal for several superb outdoor activities. Along with enjoying the region&#8217;s beaches and ocean swimming, you can stroll through the quaint old towns of Omisalj, Krk, and Baska. The captivating Biserujka Cave and the Frankopan Castle from the fifteenth century are among the must-see locations. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">20. Lesbos, Greece</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17795" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/20-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/20-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/20-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/20-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/20-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lovely Lesbos is a Greek island that can be found in the northeastern Aegean Sea. It is a great place to unwind because of its natural beauty and very laid-back way of life. The island has beautiful scenery, including white rock headlands, green olive groves, and forests that open up to secret bays and beaches. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Numerous museums explore the region&#8217;s illustrious past, which is further highlighted by the Mytilene Castle and the city&#8217;s massive, centuries-old churches. Additionally, you must try some ouzo, the potent national liqueur of Greece, which is said to have its roots on the island. Visit from mid-September through September. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">19. Elba, Italy</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17796" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/19-2.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/19-2.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/19-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/19-2-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/19-2-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/19-2-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The isolated island of Elba is better known for being the location of Napoleon&#8217;s exile in 1814 than for its poets. The Tuscan Archipelago&#8217;s main draw is its alluring blend of culture, cuisine, and nature, which makes it a popular vacation spot. The small, quiet island of Elba is a part of the province of Livorno and is also the third-largest island in the country. Now a national park, its majestic mountains and verdant valleys descend to beautiful beaches and the glittering Tyrrhenian Sea. Along with taking in the scenery and visiting Napoleon&#8217;s former residences, its quaint villages offer delicious regional cuisine and wonderful wines.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">18. Malta, The Mediterranean</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17797" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/18-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/18-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/18-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/18-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/18-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Malta is a stunning island nation situated between Sicily and the coast of North Africa. Amazing castles, churches, palaces, and temples are everywhere. Ancient Roman ruins, magnificent Baroque cathedrals, and even older temple complexes can all be found here. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There are lovely beaches, quaint towns, and coastline to explore outside of its charming capital Valletta. You might also be amazed at its numerous caves, cliffs, and rugged rock formations. The summer months, when it&#8217;s generally sunny and warm, are the ideal time to visit Malta if you’re okay with crowds. Winter, unsurprisingly, is the least expensive season to visit Malta.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">17. Rhodes, Greece</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17798" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/17-2.jpg" alt="" width="722" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/17-2.jpg 722w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/17-2-300x210.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/17-2-696x487.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/17-2-600x420.jpg 600w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/17-2-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Greek Island of Rhodes is the largest and most fertile, and it has been inhabited since the Neolithic era. Numerous significant archaeological sites, including the Lindos Acropolis and the Venetian Fortezza Castle, are available for you to explore. One major must-see here is Rhodes, a walled city from the Middle Ages. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Wander among the capital&#8217;s winding streets and ages-old palaces, mosques, and churches. It should come as no surprise that &#8220;Pearl Island&#8221; is such a popular tourist destination given that there are over 300<a href="https://youtu.be/erG5rgNYSdk?si=OEOGEXfww7hKXDWP" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> sunny</a> days per year and a veritable wealth of fantastic beaches and resorts to enjoy. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">16. Djerba, Tunisia</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-17799 aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/16.jpg" alt="" width="631" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/16.jpg 631w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/16-300x240.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/16-525x420.jpg 525w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 631px) 100vw, 631px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Djerba in Tunisia is a hot, barren island that is surprisingly no less stunning for it. It is an exciting and fascinating place to visit because of the dramatic desert scenery, awesome architecture, and unique cultural heritage. It’s the largest island in North Africa and is situated in the glistening Gulf of Gabes, not far from the country&#8217;s southern coast. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Djerba now exhibits an intriguing fusion of African, Arab, Berber, and Jewish influences as a result of its location. The island offers watersports, camel rides, superb sandy beaches, and breathtaking sunsets. Explore its vibrant souks and whitewashed town and sample some of the Arab cuisine.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">15. Naxos, Greece</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17800" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="499" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-3-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-3-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Greek island Naxos is frequently disregarded by visitors because it’s situated along the way to Santorini. As a result, you’ll have the island&#8217;s whitewashed villages and lush valleys all to yourself. The island was once the center of the Cycladic culture and is now a major ferry hub with a four-hour trip to Piraeus. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The city&#8217;s capital, Chora, includes numerous white houses that beckon you and make for some incredible photos. Along with exploring the town&#8217;s charming old town and nearby archaeological sites, you can hike through the interior&#8217;s steep gorges and olive groves. Go kitesurfing, swimming, windsurfing, or just kick it and catch some rays. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">14. Sardinia, Italy</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17801" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-3-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-3-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After Sicily, Sardinia is actually the largest island in Italy. The stunning mountainous landscape and romantic, rugged coastline are its most famous features. You can swim, sail, and snorkel in the sea in addition to simply admiring the region&#8217;s stunning mountain views and incredibly rugged coast. Visitors can explore the rich history, culture, language, and traditions of Sardinia. When the flowers are in bloom, the sea is warm, and the temperatures haven&#8217;t yet reached their peaks in July and August, April to June is the best time to visit Sardinia. Mind you, travelers can enjoy pleasant weather and fewer crowds in September and October. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">13. Korcula, Croatia</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17802" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-5.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Korcula is a lovely island that is oft&#8217;times overlooked in favor of the nearby islands of Hvar or Split. With its peaceful villages and beaches, it’s ideal for a relaxing getaway. It’s an island that is a part of the central Dalmatian archipelago and is separated from the Peljeac peninsula by the small strait of the same name. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Korcula Old Town is where Marco Polo may have been born. You can kayak and get a closer look at its karstic coastal ranges in addition to climbing St. Mark&#8217;s tower and taking in its breathtaking views. The best months to visit Korcula Island are May through September. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">12. Crete, Greece</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17803" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-5.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="503" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-5.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-5-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-5-696x466.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-5-627x420.jpg 627w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Of all the islands that make up Greece, Crete is the biggest and the most populous. It is also one of the Mediterranean&#8217;s most popular islands because of its profusion of stunning beaches, vast gorges, and ancient towns. Couples seeking a romantic getaway should consider visiting Crete. It is the ideal place to unwind and enjoy each other&#8217;s company with its gorgeous beaches, breathtaking sunsets, and charming old towns. The best months to travel to Crete are from mid-May to June or from September to October when the island&#8217;s natural attractions are especially beautiful, and the waters are somewhat warmer. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">11. Capri, Italy</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17804" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-3-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-3-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Amazingly, Capri has long been a well-liked vacation destination dating back to Roman times. A few of Capri&#8217;s must-see sights are the funicular ride up to Capri Town, hiking through the island&#8217;s picturesque hills, touring age-old historic sites, and taking a boat tour around the entrancing Blue Grotto. The island&#8217;s picturesque towns are home to a plethora of upscale stores and eateries, and they have long been popular with celebrities, artists, and European nobility. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">North of Sardinia in Italy is the exceptional island of Corsica. One of the less-traveled of the major Mediterranean islands, it offers a number of thrilling outdoor adventures thanks to its expansive, untamed nature and soaring landscapes. The rugged isle has a rich history, culture, and cuisine all of its own. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can learn about its turbulent past while admiring the citadels, cathedrals, and harbors of its two largest cities, Ajaccio and Bastia. Outside of its larger towns, there are fantastic multi-day treks, climbing, and hiking opportunities among its majestic mountains. You can go kitesurfing, windsurfing, or scuba diving along Corsica&#8217;s coastline while indulging in the island&#8217;s delectable local cuisine and wines. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">7. Corfu, Greece</span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the sparkling Adriatic Sea is the beautiful Ionian island of Corfu. With emerald waters, intriguing historical sites, and idyllic natural settings, it is a well-liked vacation spot. You can enjoy the lively nightlife while strolling through the charming cobblestone streets of Corfu Old Town. The majority of the island&#8217;s resorts, restaurants, and quaint cafes cater to tourists, but it is one of Greece&#8217;s most picturesque locations thanks to its stunning beaches and towering, craggy cliffs. The best time to explore the area is from May to October when the weather is warm and sunny.  </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">6. Cyprus, West Asia</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17809" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-5.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The third-largest island in the Mediterranean, Cyprus has sun-drenched shores that are perfect for a beach vacation. The contested capital Nicosia is split between Turkish Cypriots in the north and Greek Cypriots in the south. However, it is simple to cross the UN green line and sample both cultures and cuisines. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Cyprus also has a number of resplendent resorts and blissful beaches where you can unwind. There are ancient archaeological sites like Kato Paphos and the Tombs of the Kings to visit in between tanning and swimming. You can go hiking, skiing, wine tasting, and tour some impressive painted churches in the Troodos Mountains.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">5. Gozo, Malta</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17810" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-3.jpg" alt="" width="749" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-3.jpg 749w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-3-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-3-629x420.jpg 629w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 749px) 100vw, 749px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The less populated sister island of Malta is Gozo, which is famed for its picturesque hills, significant historical sites, and seaside resorts. For those looking for an &#8220;off-the-beaten-path&#8221; experience, it is ideal due to its natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. The surrounding countryside and the coast are full of gorgeous gorges, beaches, and rock formations that are just waiting to be discovered. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Its tiny, serene fishing villages are also very peaceful places to visit. The Ggantija Temples rank among the world&#8217;s oldest free-standing structures. The enormous megaliths, which date to around 3,600 BC, mark a significant time in human history.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">4. Sicily, Italy</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17811" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-5.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Mediterranean&#8217;s largest, most populous island is Sicily. It features an intriguing fusion of architectural, cultural, and artistic influences. Mount Etna&#8217;s distinctive cone, located on the east coast, dominates its roughly triangular shape. It’s Europe’s hottest region, which makes relaxing beach vacations very popular. Many also travel there to stroll through its vibrant cities or taste the wines in the region&#8217;s hilly, rural setting. From the Phoenicians and Greeks to the Romans, Arabs, and Normans, Sicily has been ruled by all of these peoples. The Valle dei Templi, Villa Romana del Casale, and Necropolis of Pantalica are three of Sicily&#8217;s most impressive sites.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">3. Zakynthos, Greece</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17812" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-4.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-4.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-4-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-4-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zakynthos is located in the Mediterranean in the Ionian Sea near Greece’s west coast. It has numerous small towns and resorts to explore in addition to its stunning beaches, natural beauty, and marine life. It includes white sand, glistening water, and towering cliffs. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Blue Caves at Cape Skinari are just as breathtaking as the epic views of Navagio Beach and its shipwreck. The nightclubs and resorts along Laganas are some of the top destinations, in addition to visiting the historic sites in Zakynthos Town and dining at its memorable restaurants and bars. The remote Gerakas Beach is quieter, and you can even snorkel with sea turtles.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">2. Mallorca, Spain</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17813" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-6.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-6.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-6-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-6-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-6-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca, is a favorite vacation spot in Europe. Numerous beautiful beaches line the country&#8217;s coruscating coast. Both peaceful fishing communities and bustling tourist resorts can be found tucked away along its coves and bays. In contrast to its interior and mountainous regions, which are much calmer and quieter, its sunny shores can get quite crowded in the summer. Explore the country&#8217;s capital, Palma, and take in some of its historic architecture in addition to relaxing on its sandy beaches. </span></p>
<h3><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">And the winner is…</span></i></h3>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">1. Santorini, Greece</span></h2>
<p><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17791" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-and-feature.jpg" alt="Mediterranean" width="755" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-and-feature.jpg 755w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-and-feature-300x197.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-and-feature-696x456.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-and-feature-641x420.jpg 641w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-and-feature-741x486.jpg 741w" sizes="(max-width: 755px) 100vw, 755px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Regular readers may already know that five islands make up the Santorini group in the sunny southern Aegean Sea in the Mediterranean. It is rather renowned for its signature white structures, dramatic volcanic landscape, and mesmerizing sunsets. The largest and most populated island is Thira, where almost all tourists stay. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The most visited locations are the towns of Fira and Oia. You can see the sun slowly setting spectacularly over the Cyclades from their hillside tavernas. Following an enormous volcanic explosion, Santorini took shape around 1600 BCE. September through October and April through May are the best months to visit <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/top-10-things-to-do-in-santorini/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Santorini</a> because the weather is warm and there aren&#8217;t many tourists around.  <em>Have a good trip in the Mediterranean!</em></span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Europe is a huge continent full of numerous possibilities and with one week there, you may need help in creating your perfect itinerary. Our staff has consulted online sources and fellow frequent flyers to narrow the options down to 25 different ways to spend a week in Europe. These itineraries strike a balance between being just busy enough that you get to do a lot in a short period of time, but not so fast that you will feel like you’re in a race.  Thus, here are 25 excellent itineraries for one week in Europe.  </span></p>
<h4><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">1 Week In Europe: 25 Excellent Itineraries</span></em></h4>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Info On These Itineraries</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-17731 alignleft" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/eiffel-2789943_1280.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="673" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/eiffel-2789943_1280.jpg 450w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/eiffel-2789943_1280-201x300.jpg 201w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/eiffel-2789943_1280-281x420.jpg 281w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’re planning a trip to Europe and have seven days, you can visit two big cities or one big city with day trips.  If you’re planning a road trip through one small region in Europe and have one week, it’s possible to do so. However, with only seven days, you’ll have six full days for sightseeing. While it’s tempting to see as much as possible, adding more cities to your itinerary will result in losing roughly half a day in travel time.  The itineraries on this list are designed to help you do a lot in a short period of time without feeling like you’re always in a race.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">1. London And Paris, UK And France  </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17733" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-2.jpg" alt="" width="728" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-2.jpg 728w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-2-300x208.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-2-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-2-696x483.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-2-605x420.jpg 605w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-2-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Undoubtedly a trip to both <a href="https://youtu.be/EfK-WX2pa8c?si=xmiZi4LL1FUh-NCT" target="_blank" rel="noopener">London</a> and Paris is a nigh-classic European trip and it is perfect for first-time visitors.  You can visit the famous, world-class Louvre and British Museums, stroll along the Champ-Elysees, and climb the iconic Eiffel Tower too.  These two grand cities are easily connected by train, so this trip is easy to plan and can be done at any time of the year.  You’re sure to make some marvelous memories!</span></p>

Each of the hikes here can be completed in a single day. Don’t worry about any special equipment since there are no via ferratas.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Some of the less lengthy hikes can be hiked together and completed in one day. Unless otherwise noted, hike distances are round trip. The hiking season here in the Dolomites is from the month of June through the month of September, the trails are clear of snow. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, by the middle of October, the first snow can already start to fall, thus ending the hiking season. Having noted all that, get ready to take notes. Here are the 15 best day hikes in the Dolomites.</span></p>
<h4><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">15 Best Day Hikes In The Dolomites</span></i></h4>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">1. The Tofana Di Mezzo Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17710" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-flickr.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="501" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-flickr.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-flickr-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-flickr-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/1-flickr-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tofana di Mezzo is one of the best places to get a view of the Dolomites from the shortest hiking trail. This easy trail is only 0.3 kilometers in length, still, it scales a cliff edge and includes a slippery ascent of 55 meters to the mountain’s peak. In order to reach the hiking trail, you will need to climb staircases that begin at the area’s highest cable car station, Cima Tofana.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can scramble up the short but steep hill to Tofana di Mezzo from the hiking trail and enjoy incredible 360° views of the impressive Dolomites. Give yourself half an hour. Remember, if you have a fear of heights, you might want to forget this one. </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">2. The Seceda Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17711" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-4.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="499" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-4.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-4-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/2-4-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Take the local cable car to Seceda, in Val Gardena to complete this 1.3-kilometer loop trail. You simply hike uphill to the viewpoint. The total ascent here is 110 meters.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hike down the trail along the ridgeline towards the peaks. When you arrive at the trail junction, head back to the station. You will need between half an hour to 45 minutes.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">3. The Cinque Torri Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17712" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-2.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-2.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-2-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/3-2-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Take the convenient, quick chairlift in Cortina d&#8217;Ampezzo to the well-known hiking and rock climbing spot, Cinque Torri. Hike around in this open-air museum complete with bunkers and trenches from WWII. The chairlift and this educational area make it great for kids as it’s an easy, 1.9-kilometer loop with an ascent of 130 meters and everyone learns a bit about history here too.  </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Give yourself an hour for this one. If you have the time and energy, combine this hike with the Rifugio Averau and Rifugio Nuvolau hikes and make a day of it.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">4. The Cadini Di Misurina Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17713" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="499" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-3-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/4-3-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is a gorgeous, short, and easy hike not far from the Tre Cime Naturepark and Cortina d&#8217;Ampezzo. It begins at the well-known Rifugio Auronzo and ends at the popular Cadini di Misurina viewpoint. It has a length of 3.2 kilometers.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Along with enjoying the view of the Cadini di Misurina, hiking this trail also allows you to see the beautiful “backside” of Tre Cime di Lavaredo. This trek has a total ascent of 210 meters. You will need between one and two hours to complete it. What’s more? If you enjoy short hikes but don’t like crowds, this is yet another reason to hit the trail here.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">5. The Lago Di Braies Loop Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-17714 alignleft" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-1.jpg" alt="dolomites" width="450" height="677" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-1.jpg 450w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-1-199x300.jpg 199w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/5-1-279x420.jpg 279w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The lovely Lago di Braies is a lake located in Fanes-Sennes-Brais Nature Park, South Tyrol. It is nigh-famous for its majestic mountain backdrop and its clear aquamarine water. Camera bugs and hikers both enjoy this short, easy hike. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This hike has a total ascent of 100 meters. It can be completed in between one and a half and two hours. The loop around the shimmering, aquamarine lake is also considered family-friendly. The distance of the loop is 3.7 kilometers and offers incredible views of the lake from all angles.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">6. The Lagazuoi To Falzarego Pass Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17715" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="499" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-3-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/6-3-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This easy hike in Cortina d&#8217;Ampezzo starts with a cable car ride from the historic Falzarego Pass to the Lagazuoi, one of the many mountain peaks here. The view from the upper cable car station is phenomenal. There are a number of hiking trails that run through Lagazuoi.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You hike downhill from the mountain peak to your vehicle which you have hopefully parked at the Falzarego Pass. The distance is a total of four kilometers from point to point. The elevation loss is 650 meters.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Allow yourself between two to three hours to complete this attractive trek. From the trail, you will see Averau, the Cinque Torri, Croda da Lago, Gran Diedro, and Nuvolau. It’s family-friendly too. The best time to go is from June through September.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">7. The Rifugio Averau And Rifugio Nuvolau Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17717" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/7-flickr.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/7-flickr.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/7-flickr-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/7-flickr-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/7-flickr-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/7-flickr-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’d enjoy a hike in Cortina d’Ampezzo that comes complete with a drink or meal with an unforgettable view, this hike is for you! The hike is 4 kilometers long and is rated easy. The total ascent is 335 meters and it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to complete plus count on some additional time at the rifugios.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The hike starts at Rifugio Averau which reportedly serves some of the best pasta dishes in the Dolomites. From here, you hike past Rifugio Nuvolau which sits atop Mount Nuvolau. Here, at an impressive elevation of 2,575 meters, you can enjoy 360-degree views of the mountain peaks. Hopefully, you’re lucky enough to complete the hike on a clear day. Have lunch on the outdoor terrace, and make a meal a memory! </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">8. The Piz Boe Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17718" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/8-3.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/8-3.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/8-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/8-3-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/8-3-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/8-3-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This hike in Val Gardena starts at Passo Pordoi. From there you ride the cable car to Sass Pordoi. From there, it is a comparatively short yet nevertheless moderately strenuous hike with a total ascent of 430 meters. Remember, this summit of Piz Boè is the highest peak in the Sella Group. Enjoy the panoramic views from here. They are said to be breathtaking and well worth the effort. Allow yourselves between two and four hours for this noteworthy hike.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The best time to take this hike is always early in the day when there are fewer chances of any crowds. The best time of the year to do it is between the end of June and the end of September. If you wish to avoid any remaining snow, wait until September, for sure!</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">9. The Cinque Torri And The Rifugio Averau And Rifugio Nuvolau Hikes</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17719" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/9-2.jpg" alt="" width="752" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/9-2.jpg 752w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/9-2-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/9-2-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/9-2-632x420.jpg 632w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Combine two of arguably the best day hikes here into a slightly long but more epic hiking adventure. This combo hike in Cortina d’Ampezzo is an exceptionally good idea if you only have a single day here in the Dolomites. Despite the fact that you are combining two treks, the total distance is still relatively short at only six kilometers so it’s still workable.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rated easy to moderate, this two-trek hike has a total ascent of 465 meters. Allow yourself between two and a half to three hours to complete this hike and don&#8217;t forget to plan on spending additional time at the popular rifugios. The views are no less than gorgeous, you get a great meal and can enjoy memorable views of the Dolomites.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">10. The Alpe Di Siusi Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17720" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/10-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/10-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/10-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/10-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/10-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Alpe di Siusi in the Dolomites is Europe’s highest alpine meadow. It offers travelers wonderful views and plenty of natural beauty. With cabins, hotels, and rifugios scattered ‘cross the landscape, there are several options in terms of accommodations.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Perhaps the best way to enjoy the area is to take this hike from comfy Compatsch to striking Saltria. The total distance of this adventure is under seven kilometers. This easy, downhill hike includes a 260-meter descent.    </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will need between two and three hours here plus whatever time you wish to spend at the local rifugios. Saltria is the lowest point, and you can take a bus ride back to the starting point at Compatsch and avoid a lengthy, unnecessary hike up again. Need more? The hillsides here are rife with more biking and hiking trails.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">11. The Tre Cime Di Lavaredo Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17721" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/11-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of the best hikes in the Dolomites is the loop around the triple peaks of Tre Cime di Lavaredo. These peaks are the symbol of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hike is an essential one in the Dolomites and is 8.8 kilometers long with a total ascent of 425 meters. It takes about 2.5 to five hours to complete and is rated as moderate in difficulty. The hike is located near Cortina d’Ampezzo.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is a loop hike that takes you around the trio of huge rock pillars. What’s more, you can only see the nigh-iconic north faces from this specific hiking trail. Visit in the summer and you’ll also enjoy seeing a landscape carpeted with wildflowers. This trail also offers numerous detours to alpine lakes and additional viewpoints.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">12. The Adolf Munkel Weg To Geisler Alm Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17722" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-3.jpg" alt="Dolomites" width="750" height="501" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-3-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/12-3-629x420.jpg 629w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Adolf Munkel Weg Trail is a point-to-point hiking trail in Val di Funes that runs right along the base of the awesome Odle-Geisler mountain group. The hike is actually almost 10 kilometers with a total ascent of 440 meters and is officially rated as moderate in difficulty. Give yourself between four and six hours for this one so you can take a break at the huts.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">To make the trek more manageable, some hikers have shortened it and actually turned it into a loop hike. They start and end the hike from one parking lot. While you will be privy to some incredible views of the mountains and can visit a couple of rifugios, some veteran visitors claim the major drawing point here is just enjoying lunch at a mountain hut.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">13. The Lago Di Sorapis Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17723" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-flic.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-flic.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-flic-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-flic-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-flic-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/13-flic-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Also known as the Lake Sorapis hike, you will discover the trailhead just a short drive away from Cortina d’Ampezzo. However, if you plan to hike it in the summer, be prepared to deal with crowds. While most hikers go out and back on the popular main trail, you can actually make this a much quieter loop trail hike–Lago di Sorapis and Forcella Marcuoira–if you wish.  </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Thus, depending on your choice, the distance fluctuates between 11.6 to 12.7 kilometers and the total ascent of will be between 460 meters to 775 meters. Thus, the hike can be between moderate and strenuous and require between three to seven hours to complete.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">14. The Lago Federa And Croda Dal Lago Circuit Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17724" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-1-300x202.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-1-696x469.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/14-1-624x420.jpg 624w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Croda da Lago Circuit hike is possibly one of the most underrated and interesting hikes in all of the Dolomites. This loop trail in Cortina d’Ampezzo leads you around the Croda da Lago mountains, has a total distance of 12.8 kilometers and a total ascent of 900 meters. Pencil in between 4.5 and six hours for this moderate to strenuous trek.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The trail takes you through verdant woods and on your way to the alpine lake, Lago Federa, you will also enjoy both panoramic and close-up views of Croda da Lago. This hike is essentially a much less crowded hike that offers stunning views. During the summer months, the Dolomites can be a busy place to visit, but this trail is an exception.   </span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">15. The Puez-Odle Altopiano Hike</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17725" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-fli.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="501" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-fli.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-fli-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-fli-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/15-fli-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This point-to-point hike has a total distance of 17 kilometers along some of the Dolomites’ highest mountain peaks. Your journey begins with a comfy cable car ride that takes you up into the mountains, shaving off a good portion of your climb. This hike in Val Gardena includes a total descent of 1,500 meters and 850 meters of climbing.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Count on spending between six to nine hours on this one. It is rated as strenuous but some say that both the amount of climbing and the length of the trek are “just enough” to make the adventure welcomingly challenging. Additionally, the jaw-dropping panoramic views while you hike in these high peaks are an ample reward for the effort. Some <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/20-best-day-hikes-in-europe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hikers</a> say this is not only one of the best day hikes in the Dolomites but in the entire country. </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">2. The Dolomites</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17287" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/2-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Dolomites is a magnificent mountain range and UNESCO World Heritage Site in northeastern Italy. Also known to some as the Italian Alps, they span an area of almost 16,000 square kilometers and include peaks that are more than 3,000 meters high. While they might not be nearly as “hidden” as other destinations on this list, they certainly remain “gems” and are certainly a must-see destination. Travelers with time to spare may be happy to know they will also find a number of picturesque lakes and villages, like Ortisei, in these majestic mountains, which make this area worthy of more than a one-day visit.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">3. Castiglione di Sicilia</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17288" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/3-wiki.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/3-wiki.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/3-wiki-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/3-wiki-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/3-wiki-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/3-wiki-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will discover the comune of Castiglione di Sicilia in southern Italy in Sicily in the city of Catania. This enchanting, scenic town offers travelers memorable views of the entire Alcantara Valley. In fact, some sources report this to be one of Italy’s “most beautiful villages.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">(Some of our readers may recall this is the little town selling almost 900 abandoned homes for only one Euro back in 2021.) Veteran visitors suggest booking accommodations in neighboring Linguaglossa. You can take scenic drives to some nearby towns, or even stay at an excellent Airbnb that comes complete with a cactus garden, olive oil farm, and winery.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">4. Gubbio </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17289" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/4.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="501" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/4.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/4-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/4-629x420.jpg 629w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Those in the know agree that the small towns found in Umbria are worthy of any traveler’s time. Gubbio is one such charming getaway spot and is reported to be more popular than the other places placed on this list. Gubbio is a comune and town in Umbria which is the northeastern section of the province of Perugia.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Nestled on Mt. Ingino’s lowest slope, in the Apennines Mountains. <p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">5. Giovinazzo</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17290" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5.jpg" alt="" width="1006" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5.jpg 1006w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5-300x148.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5-768x378.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5-696x342.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5-854x420.jpg 854w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5-324x160.jpg 324w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/5-533x261.jpg 533w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1006px) 100vw, 1006px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you like historic waterfront villages, you will enjoy the quaint coastal comune of Giovinazzo ensconced in the city of Bari in the region of Apulia in southern Italy. It dates back to a time before even the <a href="https://youtu.be/SGr9yJPKTwU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Romans</a> set up shop. The pier or lungomare offers travelers a decidedly lively ambiance and the old port town is highlighted with attractive architecture, art, and historic churches as well. If you’re a foodie, you will be happy to hear the local cuisine is incredible and many dishes include some of the best olives and olive oil in the world.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">6. Abruzzo</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17291" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/6.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/6.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/6-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/6-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/6-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/6-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This hidden gem is one of the country’s undiscovered treasures. It is a less-famous area in Southern Italy and covers an area of almost 10,800 square kilometers and includes four individualistic provinces. They are Chieti, L’Aquila, Pescara, and Teramo.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here you will discover breathtaking landscapes, flavorful food, and interesting traditions too. Dine at the local trabocchi, olden fishing machines converted into restaurants. Book your accommodations in an endearing agriturismo or a refurbished bread and breakfast in an ancient medieval village such as Santo Stefano di Sessanio. Be sure to see Castel del Monte too!</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">7. Genoa</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17292" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/7.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/7.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/7-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/7-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/7-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is Italy’s sixth-largest city. It’s also the capital of the Liguria region. Nevertheless, in terms of tourist travel, it still qualifies as a hidden gem.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mind you, other travel writers can confirm that each year Genoa hosts more and more travelers. It’s a surprisingly lively port that offers visitors a unique melding of modernity and history. Here you can stroll hand-in-hand through Genoa’s old, narrow alleys or vicoli and check out the assorted eateries, cafes, and pleasant pubs.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You should also take time to explore beautiful Genoa Nervi and Villa Pallavicini parks. Be sure to see the Palazzi dei Rolli as well. Need more? Take quick trips to such neighboring coastal hamlets as Camogli, Portofino, and San Fruttuoso.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Some Additional Information and Suggestions</span></h3>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Do you enjoy all things Italian? If you’re considering going to Italy, then read on fellow travelers. To help you avoid any potential misunderstandings, here are 14 things you need to know before you travel to Italy.</span></p>
<h4><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 14 Things You Need To Know Before You Travel to Italy</span></i></h4>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">1. The Coperto Charge </span></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14581" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-2.jpg" alt="" width="735" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-2.jpg 735w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-2-300x206.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-2-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-2-696x478.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-2-611x420.jpg 611w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/1-2-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At the end of your visit to a bar or <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/23-of-the-most-beautiful-restaurants-in-the-world/">restaurant</a>, there seems to be an additional charge, don’t assume you’re being scammed. It’s probably a coperto charge. A “coperto” charge is actually a cover charge.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While it may be listed in English on some bar and restaurant checks, on others it will appear as “coperto.” Veteran visitors state the charge is usually one to five 5 Euros depending on the specific establishment, and in restaurants, it typically covers the cost of bread for the entire table. Additionally, because of the coperto charge, your servers will not expect you to tip them.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Train Travel</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14582" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-2.jpg" alt="" width="851" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-2.jpg 851w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-2-300x175.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-2-768x447.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-2-696x405.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2-2-722x420.jpg 722w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 851px) 100vw, 851px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Choo-choo-choose to take trains. Trains here run on time. Trenitalia is government-run and Italo is privately owned but they both are easily accessible and are high-speed trains.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can travel to almost every region on one of these trains. Tickets do not generally sell out and you can buy them online if you wish. There is a 30 percent discount for groups of two to five passengers and on some Saturdays, you can score a two-for-one deal. Make sure you validate your tickets to avoid potential fines. If you’re traveling for more than two hours splurge on cabin class tickets too.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pay Toilets</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-14583 size-full aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-Reddit.jpg" alt="Italy" width="506" height="509" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-Reddit.jpg 506w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-Reddit-298x300.jpg 298w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-Reddit-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/3-Reddit-418x420.jpg 418w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 506px) 100vw, 506px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In Italy, you generally have to pay to use public restrooms. Typically, the cost is one to two Euros. Be sure to always have some change on you. Don’t be surprised if the toilet has no seat either. Some sources say they’re removed for hygienic purposes. Others say that while the restrooms are clean, broken toilet seats never get replaced.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Food </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14586" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-1.jpg" alt="" width="910" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-1.jpg 910w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-1-300x163.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-1-768x418.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-1-696x379.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/4-1-772x420.jpg 772w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Like any other place on the planet, not all eateries are equal. Do your homework though and every meal will be memorable. Travel writers know the rule of thumb is that the further away you stroll from any well-known landmark the less expensive and mediocre your meal will be. During the summer, Italy’s best restaurants are frequently booked at mealtimes. Make reservations whenever possible and learn where the locals dine.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Booking A Hotel </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14584" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5.jpg" alt="Italy" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hotels are sometimes pricey during the peak season, of course, especially if you want to stay in places like the Amalfi Coast, Cinque Terre, or <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/15-top-things-to-do-in-venice-italy/">Venice</a>. Your rovin’ writer’s regular readers know though that your best bet is to stay in a neighboring town. It’s quieter, cheaper, and the rooms are bigger.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Visiting Venice? Stay in Padua or Verona. Cinque Terre? Stay in La Spezia or Levanto. Research the public transportation choices and schedules ahead of time. Unsure about your travel dates? Read reviews and use a booking website that permits you to make changes for free.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Expressive People </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14587" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-Pinterest.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-Pinterest.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-Pinterest-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-Pinterest-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-Pinterest-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/6-Pinterest-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Veteran visitors say that Italians can be very expressive, passionate people. A loud voice doesn’t necessarily indicate anger. You’ll see a lot of animated hand gestures, too. It’s fine. A lot of people talk with their hands. Italians are reportedly some of the most hospitable people on the planet.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Truly Exploring Italy</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14588" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-2.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="499" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-2.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-2-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/7-2-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There’s much more to Italy than Venice, <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/21-best-things-to-do-in-rome/">Rome</a>, <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/five-tips-to-beat-the-lines-in-florence-italy/">Florence</a>, and Milan. Frequent flyers also suggest seeing Sicily, Sardinia, Calabria, Turin, and the Dolomites, for example. Don’t miss charming little towns like Ischia, Orvieto, Procida, and Portovenere either. Experience the different regional traditions, specialties, and cultural differences as you explore new neighborhoods. Ask the locals at your hotel and don’t miss out on anything!</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Are You Ready To Really Eat!?</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14589" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/8-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/8-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/8-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/8-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/8-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s a vacation! Diet if you must prior to your trip but be prepared to really enjoy the food and drink! Any foodie can confirm that Italian food is more than pasta and pizza!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Anyone who frequents Italy knows that when it comes to meals, there’s a definite structure–centuries-old–meant to make the meal almost a celebration of food and friendship. Meals are practically choreographed from the opening antipasti (salad or cured meat) to the secondi piatti or main course of fish or meat to the dolce or dessert! Don’t forget to finish your meal with a shot of limoncello!</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tourist Scams </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14590" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/9.jpg" alt="" width="748" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/9.jpg 748w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/9-300x203.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/9-696x470.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/9-622x420.jpg 622w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Seasoned travelers can tell you that any major metropolis, any major travel destination, is not free of tourist scams. Some “popular” ploys include donations to fake charities, the baggage porter scam, the pigeon feeding scam, and the rose scam. The setting for said scams is usually a tourist-heavy town square or a major transportation hub such as a bus or train terminal. If you have any doubts, speak to someone official such as a ticket booth attendant, a uniformed employee, or even a police officer.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Incredible Views</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14591" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/10.jpg" alt="" width="762" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/10.jpg 762w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/10-300x195.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/10-696x452.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/10-647x420.jpg 647w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 762px) 100vw, 762px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Most of Italy’s cities are home to a cathedral, castle, or bell tower. They are all worth the climb too. Furthermore, many of these viewpoints are free. Others may cost you a few Euros.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While some are modernized and offer paid elevator access, the majority of them are not. So if you want to take in the panoramic views, be sure you are dressed to climb hundreds of stairs. The effort is worth it!  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The rooftop bars such as the Aperol Bar in Milan or Franco’s Bar in Positano offer incredible views too but can be pricey. On the other hand, you can sip a super cocktail while witnessing the wondrous views. For the best seats, be sure to make reservations!</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Most Cities Are Walkable</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14592" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/11-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/11-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/11-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/11-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/11-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Prepare to be a <a href="https://youtu.be/eRDesmAKehE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pedestrian</a>. If you haven’t figured it out yet from the previous entry, smart travelers take comfortable shoes to Italy. You will be doing quite a lot of walking there. In the cities, taxis are expensive.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Additionally, you are honestly often better off on foot here anyway because you can explore every single nook and cranny of Italy’s cities on foot. For example, Florence’s historic center is best seen on foot and you can walk around Verona in a day too. Wear a pedometer and you’ll probably discover you rack up thousands of steps each day. If you need to travel further, remember you can always get on a tram or bus.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Vino</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-14593" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/12-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/12-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/12-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/12-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/12-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Italians have experience when it comes to making wine. They’ve been making it for more than 4,000 years. When you go out for dinner, you will learn that house wines at most restaurants are relatively inexpensive and quite good as well.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can enjoy a glass for anywhere between three and six Euros. All you need to do is trust your server. Tell your server what kind of wine you like best.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Whether it’s a sweet dessert wine, a medium-body red wine, a dry white wine, or something else, your server will recommend something that will suit your personal tastes. Perhaps you would like to see just where their wine is made.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After all, the country does include some of the world’s best wine regions. There’s Piedmont found at the base of the Alps, and the Chianti in popular Tuscany, for example. If you’re a real oenophile, you can even visit wineries all over Italy for wine tastings and vineyard tours too. But best book in advance, especially if you are going to visit during peak season.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Avoid The Long Lines!</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-14594 aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/13-1.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="600" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/13-1.jpg 400w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/13-1-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/13-1-280x420.jpg 280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you don’t want to spend too much time standing in lines, then always check online! (The internet is more than kitty pics and free porn, right?) Seriously, why stand in line if it’s not necessary?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can pre-book a Colosseum ticket and even reserve a time to climb up the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa too. In fact, some attractions require travelers to pre-book visits. The Duomo climb is but one example.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Who wants to wait in line in the hot sun or freezing cold rain? You’re on vacation! Take a tip from the Scouts and “be prepared” by reserving your tickets for tourist attractions ahead of time.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Magic Words</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-14595 size-full" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/14-2.jpg" alt="Italy" width="740" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/14-2.jpg 740w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/14-2-300x205.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/14-2-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/14-2-696x475.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/14-2-615x420.jpg 615w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">No matter what country you visit, it’s always good to learn a few basic terms in the native tongue. Today, with translator apps, there’s no excuse not to either. Besides, both “Buongiorno” (good day) and “Buona sera” (good evening) can go a long way in any boutique, hotel, or eatery in Italy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The word “ciao” is an informal greeting generally reserved for those you know well. Sure, you might butcher the language but most people will appreciate the effort. Other good phrases to learn are:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Grazie”, </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">pronounced </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">GRAHT-see-eh</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">,</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is “thank you.”  Better yet, try “</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">mille grazie” (“a thousand thanks”).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Permesso” roughly translates to “excuse me.” You can use it when trying to get around or past someone and possibly even when you want someone’s attention.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Il conto, per favore” means “the bill/check, please.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">These magic words may make your trip a lot more pleasant. Good luck! Have a great <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/difficult-bucket-list-trips/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trip</a>! Let us know how things go!</span></p>

<p>Looking forward to a trip to Italy?  That’s no surprise since this country in southern Europe is often among the top travel destinations.  In order to help you plan your trip, here are the 10 most beautiful villages in <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/10-best-places-for-couples-in-italy/">Italy</a>.</p>
<h3>10 San Gimignano, Tuscany</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10886" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/10-1-1.jpg" alt="" width="816" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/10-1-1.jpg 816w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/10-1-1-300x184.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/10-1-1-768x471.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/10-1-1-696x426.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/10-1-1-685x420.jpg 685w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px" /></p>
<p>Many travel experts say Tuscany is arguably one of the country’s “most iconic” areas.  San Gimignano is surely Tuscany’s most beautiful village.  Nestled in the very heart of wine country, this little village includes 13 ancient towers, charming squares, and narrow streets.</p>
<p>The previously-mentioned towers were originally built for defensive purposes and to send a message against other noble families living in the area.  Here you can savor some homemade pasta, a glass of the local Tuscan red wine.  Then, take in the sight of the sun as it sets over the farmland.  Don’t visit in the summer if you wish to avoid the crowds.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Positano, Amalfi Coast</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10887" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/9-3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/9-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/9-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/9-3-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/9-3-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<h5>The village of Positano is an hour south of Naples. It’s situated on the scenic Amalfi Coast.  Yes, the village includes a nice beach and nice restaurants.</h5>
<h5>What makes it unique though is because it appears to cling to the local mountains.  Additionally, it appears to have multiple layers of Moorish-style homes built in an uphill sprawl.  If you’re planning a visit and looking for accommodations, veteran visitors suggest Casa Angelina, Le Sirenuse, or Villa Franca.</h5>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Alberobello, Puglia</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10888" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/8-5.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/8-5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/8-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/8-5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/8-5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>Situated in the region of Puglia, Italy. not too far from the town of Bari.  Alberobello is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site.  This charming village is well-known for its 1,500 trulli.</p>
<p>For those not in the know, a trullo is a cone-shaped roof structure constructed without mortar.  They are typically painted glaringly white.  It is particularly noticeable if you visit during the famous southern Mediterranean summer.  You can even rent them if you wish.  If you would rather stay somewhere else, seasoned travelers suggest checking in to the Borgno Egnazia which is found about 25 kilometers from this village.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Bellagio, Lake Como</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10889" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/7-5.jpg" alt="" width="783" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/7-5.jpg 783w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/7-5-300x192.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/7-5-768x490.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/7-5-696x444.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/7-5-658x420.jpg 658w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 783px) 100vw, 783px" /></p>
<p>Lake Como is a romantic, picturesque place.  Bellagio is the most beautiful of the villages there.  Nicknamed the “ “Pearl of the Lake”, this beautiful village is home to a number of world-class restaurants and hotels.  It’s a great place to enjoy the views of both the lovely lake and the awesome Alps.</p>
<p>This village features picturesque cobbled stairways, stone lanes, and century-old buildings, complete with shops offering visitors the best in Italian designer wares.  Need a place to stay?  Try the Grand Hotel Tremezzo or the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni.</p>

<h2>Manarola, Cinque Terre</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-11113" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-21.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-21.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-21-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-21-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-21-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>Manarola is said by many travel mavens to be the most beautiful of all five villages in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cinque Terre.  This quaint community is highlighted by all the brightly-colored buildings perched on the rugged slopes between the Mediterranean and the rolling hills.  Much like Italy&#8217;s other coastal towns, Manarola offers tempting regional cuisine and an intimate beach accessible via one little road.</p>
<p>If you’re looking for the best place to stay here, then check out the Grand Hotel Portovenere which is only 30 minutes away via boat.</p>

<h2>Castelmezzano, Basilicata</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10891" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-7.jpg" alt="" width="915" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-7.jpg 915w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-7-300x164.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-7-768x420.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-7-696x380.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-7-769x420.jpg 769w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 915px) 100vw, 915px" /></p>
<p>You&#8217;ll find the memorable village of Castelmezzano perched high on a cliffside amidst the well-known Lucanian Dolomites.  This getaway reportedly has pretty much everything for a genuine Italian experience.</p>
<p>Here you will get to experience strolling down narrow streets full of tradition and history, meals made from fresh food from the nearby farms, and exceptional local wines served in little village taverns.  The village also features the popular Volo dell’Angelo (in English “Flight of the Angel”.)  This walking path across the bluffs is said to be one of the best hikes in the entire country.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Civita di Bagnoregio, Lazio</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10892" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/4-6.jpg" alt="" width="888" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/4-6.jpg 888w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/4-6-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/4-6-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/4-6-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/4-6-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 888px) 100vw, 888px" /></p>
<p>Civita di Bagnoregio is situated high on a tuff hill half-way between Lake Bolsena and Orvieto.  It’s accessible only by walking across a significantly narrow footbridge.  This surreal spot is also known as “città che muore” or “the dying city.”</p>
<p>It earned that nickname because the tuff rocks beneath it are constantly eroding.  Its origins are both Medieval and Etruscan.  This place seems to be suspended in both space and time.  Some travel bloggers believe it to be one of Italy’s most characteristic and beautiful villages.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Cefalu, Sicily</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10893" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/3-3.jpg" alt="" width="755" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/3-3.jpg 755w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/3-3-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/3-3-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/3-3-634x420.jpg 634w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 755px) 100vw, 755px" /></p>
<p>Cefalu is found roughly an hour’s drive out of Palermo.  More specifically, it is located between the coastline and the mountains on one of the most scenic islands in the world.</p>
<p>This small, idyllic village is surprisingly popular, especially with Italian sun-worshippers.  Here you will discover not only narrow medieval streets and beautiful beaches, but also a surprisingly hip night scene, and noteworthy Sicilian restaurants.</p>
<p>If you want to avoid the crowds, then avoid visiting during the height of summer as that is when the population here literally tiples.</p>

<h2>Matera, Basilicata</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10894" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2-6.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2-6.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2-6-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2-6-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/2-6-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>This village in southern Italy is also referred to as the “Città dei Sassi”, or “city of stones.”  This charming spot is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site.  It earned that honor for both its uniqueness and its beauty.</p>
<p>Some travel mavens say this place in Italy is one of the most ancient and beautiful places on the planet.  It owes a lot of its fame to the memorable sassi, ancient cave-residences that were carved right into the surrounding hills’ rock.  It has been used as the setting for multiple motion pictures as well.  Veteran visitors suggest staying at the exceptional Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Ravello, Amalfi Coast</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10895" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-15.jpg" alt="" width="666" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-15.jpg 666w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-15-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-15-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-15-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-15-559x420.jpg 559w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 666px) 100vw, 666px" /></p>
<p>Ravello is a charming, little village nestled approximately 350 meters above the sea.  One travel blogger once noted that Ravello actually “represents nature’s music.”  It features impressive monuments, lovely landscapes, and spectacular views that have reportedly inspired many a European artist who found themselves in this spot.</p>
<p>Today this little village is the renowned location of a number of popular classical concerts alfresco.  Held in the <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/americas-20-coolest-summertime-lake-towns/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">summer</a>, they usually take place in the town’s attractive patrician villas and Italian gardens, such as the Cimbrone and the Rufulo.</p>

<p>If you feel like you’ve been “living underground” recently, folks like the residents of Coober Pedy will tell you to chill out because they are one of the communities that have actually dug down beneath the earth to establish their home. Here then, are several awesome underground cities that might make you want to live in a cave.</p>
<h4><em>Awesome Underground Cities</em></h4>
<h2>1. Coober Pedy, South Australia</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9213" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/fea-6.jpg" alt="cities" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/fea-6.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/fea-6-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/fea-6-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/fea-6-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>This famous albeit remote spot in South Australia has been used in several movies including <em>The Adventures of Priscilla</em>, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJV9KCI5Y8U" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Kangaroo Jack</em></a>, <em>Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome</em>; <em>Queen of the Desert</em>; and <em>Red Planet</em>. A lot of this town’s 1800 residents work in the opal-mining business. When they’re off the clock, they still choose to stay underground. After all, the desert sun pushes the temperatures into the triple-digits for most of the year. These locals beat the heat in their multi-room “dugouts.” If you would like to see for yourself you can stay underneath “Down Under” by getting a nice subterranean suite at the nearby Comfort Inn.</p>
<h2>2. Matmata, Tunisia</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9217" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/2-2-1.jpg" alt="cities" width="666" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/2-2-1.jpg 666w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/2-2-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/2-2-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/2-2-1-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/2-2-1-559x420.jpg 559w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 666px) 100vw, 666px" /></p>
<p>Star Wars fans will recognize Matmata’s Berber village from the 1977 film <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiA_IVDHsx0&amp;feature=emb_logo" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Star Wars</em></a> and 2002’s <em><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=15&amp;v=9beS77NaD8U&amp;feature=emb_logo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Star Wars</a>: Episode II – Attack of the Clones</em>. While Luke Skywalker no longer “lives” there, this place is still home to the real-life, cave-dwelling nomads who roamed this region for centuries. Their homes, or “troglodytes, were actually dug out of the ground by hand.</p>
<p>They start with a single circular opening that eventually is used as a courtyard for other rooms that are dug off of it. It wasn’t a well-known place until the 1960s when the area was impacted by flooding. Today it’s quite popular.</p>
<h2>3. Derinkuyu, Turkey</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9218" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8.jpg" alt="cities" width="1200" height="800" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8.jpg 1200w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/3-8-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>Here in Turkey’s Nevsehir province, there were once dozens of underground villages. Some of those villages harken back to circa 700 BC. The largest one had multiple levels and was home to over 20,000 people.</p>
<p>This community includes all the elements of civilization. Chapels, schools, stores, and even a water system. Cappadocian Greeks sheltered here during wars up ‘til the 1900s. Sometime in 1969, this complex became less of a residence and more of a cool tourist destination. Mind you, when you’re as much as 250 feet underground amidst reportedly “hundreds of thousands of square feet of tunnel,” who knows what you’ll discover.</p>
<h2>4. The Setenil de las Bodegas, Spain</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9219" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/4-6.jpg" alt="cities" width="888" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/4-6.jpg 888w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/4-6-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/4-6-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/4-6-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/4-6-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 888px) 100vw, 888px" /></p>
<p>Located close to the southern tip of the famous Iberian Peninsula, Setenil is truly a bizarre sight to see. A major portion of this town and the streets are actually built into the stunning surrounding cliffs. Here you’ll see huge rock overhangs 20 to 30 feet overhead as you explore the main drag.</p>
<p>Additionally, you’ll also discover that a number of the storefronts and homes here are little more than façades. In truth, caves are what constitute the majority of the enclosed space because 900 years ago this used to be a Moorish fortress. Today it’s a charming place with 3000 residents.</p>
<h2>5. Guadix, Southern Spain</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9220" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/5-5.jpg" alt="cities" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/5-5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/5-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/5-5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/5-5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>Since you&#8217;re already in Spain, hop in your car and head 2.5 hours east. There you can visit the ancient troglodyte village known as Guadix. There are almost 2000 underground homes across the property, dug into the now compacted earth.</p>
<p>The locals here are famous for their hospitality. They often invite travelers in to see their unique homes. Of course, if you’d rather enjoy a more upscale experience, then you’d best reserve a room at the five-star Casas Cuevas Almagruz y Centro de Interpretación Hábitat Troglodita Almagruz. It’s a popular hacienda burrowed into an old sandstone outcropping located on the edge of town.</p>
<h2>6. Matera, Italy</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9221" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/6-9.jpg" alt="cities" width="751" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/6-9.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/6-9-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/6-9-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/6-9-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p>The ancient city of Matera was once considered a slum. To those who had never seen Roberto Benigni&#8217;s 2019 film <em>Pinocchio</em>, it was even called “the shame of Italy.” In truth, it is one of the oldest still inhabited cities in the world.</p>
<p>It is now alive with wine, culture, and art while its ages-old cliff architecture essentially remains unchanged. Technically, this specific city is not exactly underground since it is actually carved into the rock and gray limestone to one side of the ground. Still, these caves, known as sassi, are incredible. This city, which appears to be both stratospheric and subterranean, includes arches, courtyards, connecting stairways, and tunnels.</p>
<h2>7. The Beijing Underground, China</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9210" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/7-flickr.jpg" alt="cities" width="792" height="527" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/7-flickr.jpg 792w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/7-flickr-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/7-flickr-768x511.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/7-flickr-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/7-flickr-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px" /></p>
<p>Beijing is one of the most densely populated and largest cities in the world. Space is at a premium. That’s one reason why roughly 1 million people live underground at “bargain-basement prices.” These underground dwellers are called shuzu or “the rat tribe.”<br />
It began during the Cold War when Chairman Mao decided that 20,000 bomb shelters would be excavated to protect people from possible Soviet missile strikes. This small, windowless network of boxes that range from 30 to 300 square feet each. They were turned into hostel rooms back in the 1980s. At less than $60.00 per month, it was a deal the shuzu couldn’t refuse.</p>
<h2>8. Singapore</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9222" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/8-5.jpg" alt="cities" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/8-5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/8-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/8-5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/8-5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>Here in Singapore, you don’t get so much of a historic feel for underground living but a glimpse into the future. There have been underground museums and malls in this admittedly densely populated city-state for over 10 years now. The country’s Urban Redevelopment Authority continues to move heaven and (ahem) earth to promote their progressive concepts.</p>
<p>They have put at over $150 million into related projects. One of the more well-known proposals is the creation of the planet’s first &#8220;earth scraper.&#8221; People in the know report that these projects are not simply about conserving space but also about conserving energy.</p>
<h2>9. Similar Projects</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-9211" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9wiki-4.jpg" alt="cities" width="667" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9wiki-4.jpg 667w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9wiki-4-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9wiki-4-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9wiki-4-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/9wiki-4-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px" /></p>
<p>As this goes to press, similar projects for cities are in the works in places like Singapore’s underground park project meant in part as a response to the threat of global warming. There is also New York’s “Lowline” which was meant to be the first subterranean park complete with remote skylights to allow sunlight in for the vegetation. While mounting costs have halted work, officials in Helsinki, <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/winter-wonderlands-of-europe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Finland</a>, have already announced their own &#8220;Underground Master Plan.&#8221;</p>

<p>Are you going to<a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/10-best-places-for-couples-in-italy/"> Italy</a>? Venice is a beautiful, ancient city with quite a long history. If you’re going to vacation in<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hB38j8AExsA"> Venice</a>, you’ll have a lot of activities from which to choose. Here is our list of 15 top things to do:</p>
<h4><b>1. Visit St. Mark’s Basilica</b></h4>
<p>This renowned landmark church is located on the famous piazza of the same name and is quite easily accessible from the popular Grand Canal. It was constructed in 1092 in honor of the evangelist Saint Mark whose remains were smuggled out of Alexandria in barrels of pork by two Venetians intent on burying them in Venice.</p>
<p>Even today this church is one of the most important religious structures in all of Northern Italy and the most popular remaining example of Italian Byzantine architecture. Don’t miss the artwork on the ornate domed ceiling.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>2. Check Out St. Mark’s Square</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5384" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/St.-Marks-Square.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="486" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/St.-Marks-Square.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/St.-Marks-Square-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/St.-Marks-Square-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/St.-Marks-Square-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>St Mark’s Square is the perfect place to begin your tour of Venice. It is perhaps Venice&#8217;s most famous piazza. Situated on the grand canal, across from the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, St. Mark&#8217;s Square is lined by Doge&#8217;s Palace, St. Mark&#8217;s Basilica, and St. Mark&#8217;s Campanile.</p>
<p>In fact, the square is framed by several impressive buildings with ornate archways. Check out the restaurants for a hearty plate of spaghetti carbonara and some wine. It’s also the perfect place to buy a souvenir carnival mask or gondola hat.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>3. Enjoy Canale Grande</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5385" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Canale-Grande.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="486" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Canale-Grande.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Canale-Grande-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Canale-Grande-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Canale-Grande-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>The city has many canals that join the numerous islands that make up Venice. The monumental two-mile-long Grand Canal is Venice’s main “street.” Much like an actual river it snakes through the city in an “S” and crosses from one side to the other.</p>
<p>It is a favorite of photographers and couples can hire a gondolier for a romantic albeit expensive row on this famous canal. (Note: For a cheaper ride, hop aboard the vaporetto, or public water bus which will be discussed later in this list.)</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>4. See Ponte di Rialto</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5386" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Ponte-di-Rialto.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="401" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Ponte-di-Rialto.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Ponte-di-Rialto-300x165.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Ponte-di-Rialto-696x382.jpg 696w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>The Ponte di Rialto or Rialto Bridge is one of the few bridges that actually spans the previously-mentioned Grand Canal. It is both a tourist attraction and an important pedestrian thoroughfare connecting the San Polo and San Marco districts. Centuries ago, the bridge was the only way to cross the canal.</p>
<p>Once little more than a wooden bridge, it collapsed back in 1524. The iconic, present-day incarnation was built by Antonio da Ponte. It is now made entirely of marble and is said to be an engineering marvel.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>5. Visit The Gallerie dell’Accademia</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5387" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/thPZNSN6JX.jpg" alt="" width="720" height="650" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/thPZNSN6JX.jpg 720w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/thPZNSN6JX-300x271.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/thPZNSN6JX-696x628.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/thPZNSN6JX-465x420.jpg 465w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>Situated across from the Ponte dell’Accademia on the Grand Canal, is the Gallerie dell’Accademia. Once an academy and convent, this building was converted into a museum by Napoléon in the mid to late 1700s. If you are into iconic masterpieces and Renaissance art, this is the place for you.</p>
<p>The Academy Gallery now holds a noteworthy collection of Venetian art ranging from the 14th to the 18th century. Works by such artists as Veronese, Tintoretto, Bellini Canaletto, and Titian. Its most famous piece is arguably Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man by Da Vinci.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>6. Kick Back At Venice Lido</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5388" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Venice-Lido.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="486" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Venice-Lido.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Venice-Lido-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Venice-Lido-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Venice-Lido-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>If you need a break from a busy itinerary, this is the place to get away from the tourist crowds. This island separates the Adriatic Sea from Venice and includes a great stretch of beach to boot. The Lido features its own shops, hotels, and restaurants and is home to only about 20,000 people.</p>
<p>Unlike central Venice, this spot is significantly more calm, relaxed and laid back. No doubt it can provide you with a much-welcomed escape and a sharp contrast to the busy waterways around the famous Grand Canal.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>7. See Doge’s Palace</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5389" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Doges-Palace.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="486" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Doges-Palace.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Doges-Palace-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Doges-Palace-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Doges-Palace-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Next to the Basilica and Campanile, Doge’s Palace, located in St. Mark’s Square, is one of The city’s most renowned buildings. Doge&#8217;s Palace has a truly ethereal appearance when viewed from the Venetian Lagoon. It seems to be floating atop the water.</p>
<p>Looking out over the canals, this impressive palace is quite stunning. Its facade is highlighted by an ornate, white stone arch design. Historically-speaking it has been the home of the doge (leader), the center of the government, and “courthouse.” Don’t miss the immense decorated rooms, hidden doors, and secret passageways. Tours are highly recommended.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>8. Cross The Bridge Of Sighs</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5391" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Bridge-of-Sighs.jpg" alt="" width="720" height="575" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Bridge-of-Sighs.jpg 720w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Bridge-of-Sighs-300x240.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Bridge-of-Sighs-696x556.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Bridge-of-Sighs-526x420.jpg 526w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>The famous Bridge of Sighs is small and yet it is one of the most popular and historic landmarks in Venice. This iconic bridge crosses over the well-known Rio di Palazzo. It connects Doge’s Palace to the Prigioni Nuove.</p>
<p>The bridge was once utilized to move prisoners from the courtroom to prison. It is named after the sad sighs that prisoners would let out as they took their final look at the outside world out the bridge’s windows. Locals say if lovers kiss on a gondola under the bridge they will receive “eternal bliss.”</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>9. Take A Vaporetto Ride Through The Grand Canal</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5392" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Vaporetto-through-the-Grand-Canal.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="456" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Vaporetto-through-the-Grand-Canal.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Vaporetto-through-the-Grand-Canal-300x187.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Vaporetto-through-the-Grand-Canal-696x435.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Vaporetto-through-the-Grand-Canal-672x420.jpg 672w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>As noted elsewhere, a vaporetto is like a canal bus and is the main type of public transportation in Venice. Trains are available at the main station and it’s nice to stroll along the streets but when in Venice you simply must take it all in from the water. In fact, the vaporetto system is reported to be a highly efficient one. If you are there for more than a day, experts suggest purchasing an extended pass. They’re good for multiple uses and you don&#8217;t have to waste time buying individual tickets for each ride.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>10. Experience San Marco Campanile</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5393" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Marco-Campanile.jpg" alt="" width="720" height="1090" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Marco-Campanile.jpg 720w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Marco-Campanile-198x300.jpg 198w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Marco-Campanile-676x1024.jpg 676w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Marco-Campanile-696x1054.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Marco-Campanile-277x420.jpg 277w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>The Campanile di San Marco was built in the early 20th century. This bell tower is a replica of the 9th-century original that collapsed in 1902. It is also the tallest building in Venice standing 98.6m high.</p>
<p>This tower features a simple but effective red-brick design. It marks the spot where Galileo Galilei&#8217;s presented the telescope and was a stage for tightrope walkers. The new structure has suffered damage from earthquakes, fires, and lightning. Don’t miss the beautiful gold sculpture of the Angel Gabriel at the top. The panoramic view is truly memorable.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>11. Visit San Giorgio Maggiore</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5394" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Giorgio-Maggiore.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="474" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Giorgio-Maggiore.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Giorgio-Maggiore-300x195.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Giorgio-Maggiore-696x452.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/San-Giorgio-Maggiore-647x420.jpg 647w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>San Giorgio Maggiore is one of the more noteworthy smaller individual isles that is not joined to Venice’s main canals. It is situated fairly close to the Grand Canal and the Venice Basin. You can get there via private water taxi or take a vaporetto.</p>
<p>There on the isle, you’ll find the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, the San Giorgio Monastery, as well as the big campanile that resembles the one found in St. Mark’s Square. After you visit the monastery and church, take in the view from the campanile and stroll through the harbor.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>12. Drop In On Murano</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5395" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Murano.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="486" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Murano.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Murano-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Murano-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Murano-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Another noteworthy island within the Venice district is Murano. This section is actually composed of a number of smaller islands that are joined via a group of bridges and canals. If you’re looking for a spot less busy than other areas but still charming then this island town is the place for you.</p>
<p>There are several things to see including the Palazzo Da Mula, the Campo Santo Stefano, and the Basilica dei Santa Maria. The town is famous for its glass blowers. You can go to the factories and even watch live demonstrations too.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>13. Visit The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5396" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Chiesa-di-Santa-Maria-Assunta.jpg" alt="" width="720" height="605" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Chiesa-di-Santa-Maria-Assunta.jpg 720w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Chiesa-di-Santa-Maria-Assunta-300x252.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Chiesa-di-Santa-Maria-Assunta-696x585.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Chiesa-di-Santa-Maria-Assunta-500x420.jpg 500w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>Also known as the Church of Santa Maria Assunta or I Gesuiti, this attraction can be found in Venice’s Cannaregio region. The front of the church is highlighted by ornate statues of Christian figures, stone columns, and a large bronze door which serves as the entrance. The ceiling is decorated with frescoes and detailed in gold.</p>
<p>Actually one of the newer churches in the city, it was built in 1729. Nevertheless, it is home to several significant pieces of art including Titan’s the Martyrdom of St. Lawrence. Furthermore, artwork, frescos and gold detail cover the ceiling of the church and some beautiful motif artwork lines the walls and columns.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>14. See The Basilica di Santa Maria Della Salute</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5397" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Basilica-di-Santa-Maria-della-Salute-1.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="484" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Basilica-di-Santa-Maria-della-Salute-1.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Basilica-di-Santa-Maria-della-Salute-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Basilica-di-Santa-Maria-della-Salute-1-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Basilica-di-Santa-Maria-della-Salute-1-633x420.jpg 633w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>The Basilica di Santa Maria Della Salute is arguably Venice&#8217;s second most famous place of worship. St. Marks is on one side of the Grand Canal and this church is located on the other. It really stands out from the other buildings there and takes center stage on the GC.</p>
<p>Opened in 1687, it features a Baroque design. The building’s exterior features dome towers above the skyline and statues of the apostles. The hexagonal design lets a lot of light inside too. The Roman Catholic Church declared it a minor basilica.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>15. Experience Torcello Island</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5398" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Torcello-Island.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="489" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Torcello-Island.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Torcello-Island-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Torcello-Island-696x466.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Torcello-Island-627x420.jpg 627w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Torcello Island is perfect for a peaceful respite. It’s a lot less crowded than the main sections of the city. Ensconced behind Burano, it’s a 45-minute ferry ride from Venice. Explore the main street here and take in the beauty of the canal. See the historic Church of Santa Maria Assunta. Finally, visit the museum and learn all about the island chain’s history.</p>

<p>Are you a couple heading for Italy? Are you hoping to make your stay there a romantic getaway? Italy’s lush green hillsides, cobblestoned streets, olive groves, verdant vineyards, and candlelit restaurants can provide just the right inspiration. In no particular order, here are ten of the best destinations for couples in Italy.</p>
<h4><strong>1 Kick it in lovely Lake Como</strong></h4>
<p>Lake Como is arguably the most romantic place in the entire Italian Lake District. Found near the border of Switzerland, this picturesque place is surrounded by beautiful villages and quaint villas.</p>
<p>If you have some money to burn, by all means, stay in Bellagio.</p>
<p>Bellagio has been the destination of romantic runaways for more than 100 years. Explore the hillsides too. There you will find a number of nice towns. There you can browse the shops, boat on the lake, then dine al fresco in the fresh, lakeside air.</p>

<h3>Feel the vibes of Venice</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5130" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7-683x1024.jpg" alt="" width="683" height="1024" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7-696x1044.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7-1068x1602.jpg 1068w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7-280x420.jpg 280w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/1-7.jpg 1633w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></p>
<p>To some people, Venice is the quintessential picture of romance in Europe. Picture yourself in a boat on a canal. The romantic gondola ride is a cliche of course but one not to be missed.</p>
<p>At the same time though, the town itself has more to experience than just its famous waterways. Stroll hand-in-hand along the small canals and down the labyrinthine streets, check out the famous Bridge of Sighs, and take in the view from the Terrazza Danieli. Then get cozy at one of the many cafes and enjoy gelato.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>Get away to the villas of Tuscany</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5036" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Tuscany.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="441" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Tuscany.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Tuscany-300x181.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Tuscany-696x420.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Tuscany-695x420.jpg 695w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>The countryside in Tuscany is reported to be some of the most romantic in Europe. Here you can enjoy the cobbled roads, cypress copses, lush green hills, old farmhouses, rolling vineyards, and shaded olive groves. Get a room in a quaint bed and breakfast in this town not far from Florence.</p>
<p>Take a short jaunt to where the Italian Renaissance was born. Take in the art, architecture, and history in Florence then return for a romantic candlelit dinner. The restaurants here offer dishes made with fresh local produce.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>Escape to uncrowded Umbria</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5037" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Umbria.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="460" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Umbria.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Umbria-300x189.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Umbria-696x439.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Umbria-667x420.jpg 667w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Peacefully ensconced between oft’times tourist-laden Tuscany and overrun Rome is Umbria. It is the only region of Italy that does not border another nation or have a coastline. It is also famous for its artistic legacy, culinary delights, cultural influences, history, landscapes, and traditions.</p>
<p>The author Henry James once referred to the verdant vineyards and green, lush hillsides of Umbria as “the most beautiful garden in all the world.” Enjoy intimate dinners one of the noteworthy restaurants across the medieval region. Veteran visitors especially recommend dining in Perugia or Orvieto.</p>

<h3>Be a modern-day Romeo &amp; Juliet in Verona</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5039" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Verona.jpg" alt="" width="725" height="510" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Verona.jpg 725w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Verona-300x211.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Verona-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Verona-696x490.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Verona-597x420.jpg 597w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px" /></p>
<p>Sadly, Venice often overshadows Verona. Still, for those interested in Verona, that’s a good thing. It means the olden cobblestone streets here are less laden with tourists.</p>
<p>This beautiful town situated on the Adige River in northern Italy has actually been a trade center since roughly 2000 BC. Additionally, you can stroll around ruins that are second to only those of Pompeii and Rome. Let’s not forget Juliet’s famous balcony where William Shakespeare set perhaps one of the planet’s most famous scenes: &#8220;But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?&#8221;</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>Experience the incredible Amalfi Coast</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5041" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amalfi-Coast.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="485" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amalfi-Coast.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amalfi-Coast-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amalfi-Coast-696x462.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Amalfi-Coast-632x420.jpg 632w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Take a scenic drive along the road that connects the villages along the Amalfi coast. Stroll along the shining Tyrrhenian Sea and see the pastel-colored houses on the hillsides and the jagged cliffs surrounding the beautiful beaches. Relax on the soft sand, go for a swim and dry yourself on the sun-heated boulders.</p>
<p>Stay in one of the resort towns along the coastal road like Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, or Sorrento. You stay in stone buildings complete with balconies that provide views of the piazzas. Enjoy fresh seafood for dinner too!</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>See the villages of Cinque Terre</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5043" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/cinq.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="487" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/cinq.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/cinq-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/cinq-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/cinq-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Part of the popular Italian Riviera in the Liguria region, the Cinque Terre is aptly named. It includes a group of five headlands separated by a jagged shoreline. If you enjoyed the previously-mentioned Amalfi Coast, this span of coastline is just as breathtaking.</p>
<p>The colorful Riomaggiore is recommended for lovers. The adjoining lemon-scented Manarola is great for a romantic walk on the seaside trail called Via dell’Amore. It earned its moniker during the second world war when it was used as the location for many a secret rendezvous.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>Explore all of historic Sicily</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5045" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Sicily.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="263" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Sicily.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Sicily-300x108.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Sicily-696x251.jpg 696w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Sicily, the largest island in Europe, is perfect for couples who enjoy more adventure with their romantic getaways. Here you’ll find fewer tourists as you enjoy your intimate excursion. You’ll need to try to speak a bit of the native tongue but these days you can cheat with a translator app.</p>
<p>You’ll also have to stay at a hotel in a lesser known town. But you will also be able to more easily enjoy the Greek and Roman ruins, the Baroque and Byzantine architecture, the Mediterranean culture, and the friendliness of the natives.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>Discover the less-traveled land of Sardinia</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-5129" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5-1024x830.jpg" alt="" width="696" height="564" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5-1024x830.jpg 1024w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5-300x243.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5-768x622.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5-696x564.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5-1068x865.jpg 1068w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5-518x420.jpg 518w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/11-5.jpg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>Located off the coast of Italy, Sardinia is another large island that is actually more untrodden and remote than the previously noted Sicily. Couples who prefer to be more free and independent when they travel will love this place. Couples who are very into outdoor experiences will also favor this isle.</p>
<p>For the best results, rent a car and cruise up and down the scenic shoreline. Go mountain biking or ride horses into the hills. If you’re not shy check out some of the best nude beaches in Europe either!</p>
