<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’re planning on visiting the USA, you might want to consider visiting in the winter. Sure, summer vacations are more traditional but they are also more common. Why not avoid some of the summer tourists and travel to the US in the winter? Here you can choose from warm winter vacations to white winter wonderlands. In order to help you thin out the lengthy list of options, here are the best places to visit in the USA in the winter.</span></p>
<h4><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Best Places To Visit In The USA In Winter</span></i></h4>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">1. San Francisco, California</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_16342" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-16342" style="width: 880px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-16342" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/1-unsplash.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/1-unsplash.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/1-unsplash-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/1-unsplash-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/1-unsplash-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/1-unsplash-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-16342" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of Unsplash</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This Northern California city is famous for Alcatraz Prison, the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, diverse cultures, Victorian homes, and world-class cuisine. Visiting in the winter translates to fewer tourists and better hotel rates. In the winter you can visit the sea lions off Pier 39, go whale watching, enjoy the Chinese New Year parade, take in the towering Christmas trees, colorful two-story gingerbread houses, the brightly-lit boat parade, and even take part in a fun Santa-themed pub crawl. Other winter highlights here include the popular Illuminate SF Festival of Light, the <a href="https://youtu.be/kZcyRLtwUVY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">San Francisco</a> Chronicle Wine Competition, and the Uncorked Wine Festival. Average temperatures are in the high 50s, so pack accordingly.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Telluride, Colorado</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16343" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/2.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/2.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This former silver mining town is located in a box canyon in the San Juan Mountains. It’s been a super ski resort since the 1970s but it still retains its Old West vibe. <a href="https://youtu.be/_YBUaU682bY" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Telluride</a> is a great place for biking and hiking in the summer but in the winter the ski slopes are surprisingly uncrowded.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s exclusive and significantly remote as well. This is due to the fact that it’s a good five-hour drive from Denver, the location of the closest major airport. Thus it also hosts fewer tourists than such other well-known ski resorts as Breckenridge, Eagle, or Vail. There are only 2,500 residents and the gondola to Mountain Village is free!</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Napa Valley, California</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16344" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="497" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-635x420.jpg 635w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Napa Valley is famous for being the location of numerous world-class wineries, and California’s comparatively mild winter is a great time to enjoy a cozy cabernet on a comfy heated patio. Providing it’s dry, you can take an outdoor winery tour and do a patio tasting. Being low-season, even the most famous wineries are comparatively crowd-free.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This means less competition to make reservations at the wineries (and some restaurants as well). Fewer tourists translates to a more individualized tasting experience too. Some travel bloggers specifically suggest a stop at the popular Robert Biale Vineyards. Here you can see the vines from the patio. Be sure to sample the red wine as well.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Bend, Oregon</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16345" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/4.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/4.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/4-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/4-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Located east of the Cascade Mountains, Bend is reported to be the state’s premier outdoor playground. It features lovely lakes, majestic mountains, raging rivers, and both volcanic and desert landscapes. It is also a year-round wonder for photographers and nature lovers. From November to April, it is also one of the best places for downhill skiing and snowboarding if you head to Mount Bachelor.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Indeed, it’s great for other winter sports as well. Here you can take advantage of the ice skating rinks, and sledding hills. There are also many miles of trails where you can go snowshoeing or even Nordic skiing. Several of the hiking trails here remain accessible and generally snow-free too. </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mammoth Lakes, California</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16346" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/5.jpg" alt="" width="784" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/5.jpg 784w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/5-300x189.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/5-768x485.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/5-696x439.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/5-665x420.jpg 665w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 784px) 100vw, 784px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Enjoy seeing snow-dusted mountains, frozen lakes, and some of the country’s very best skiing? Visit Mammoth Lakes this winter. Indeed, here you will find the popular Mammoth Mountain ski resort featuring the state’s highest chairlift-serviced mountain peak.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mammoth has one of the nation’s longest ski seasons. It’s been known to last as late as sometime in August. It’s also a great place for snowboarding, sledding, and watching the sunset at one of the frozen lakes. Finally, cozy up in a cabin and defrost in front of a roaring fire complete with some hot chocolate or your fave adult beverage! Don’t forget to check out the quaint used bookstore, the Booky Joint, either!</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Philadelphia, Pennsylvania</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16347" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/6.jpg" alt="in music" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/6.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/6-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/6-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/6-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/6-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://youtu.be/9Q2ajCp5HG0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Philadelphia</a> is the historic birthplace of the USA. In the winter, you can escape the chill air by visiting Independence Hall where you’ll see for yourself where the American Constitution and the Declaration of Independence were signed. The hourly tours are free and other historic must-see sites are less than one block away, so you can easily visit the American Constitution Center and the Liberty Bell.   </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">See the site of the nation’s first Presidential Mansion. Yes, George Washington slept here, as well. Check out the great Christmas trees at City Hall and LOVE too. Other highlights include the Christmas markets and outdoor ice skating sites. Take a day trip to ski in the Pocono Mountains.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Key West, Florida</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16348" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/7.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/7.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/7-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/7-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/7-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Key West is a great warm winter destination. It’s part of the Florida Keys. The most popular place here is arguably Duval Street. Here you can explore bars, boutiques, and restaurants.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As the day closes, be sure to stop in Mallory Square for the striking sunset celebration. Take the traditional picture of the well-known Southernmost Point Buoy which marks the continental USA’s southernmost point. Go on one of the ghost tours, visit a couple of the noteworthy museums, and stop at Ernest Hemingway’s old residence too.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Go snorkeling or just relax. Are you up for a day trip? Take the ferry and go explore Dry Tortugas National Park. Don’t miss Fort Jefferson either. </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Marquette, Michigan</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-16349 aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/8-Pinterest.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="804" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/8-Pinterest.jpg 450w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/8-Pinterest-168x300.jpg 168w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/8-Pinterest-235x420.jpg 235w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The town of Marquette is found on the coast of well-known Lake Superior. It’s reportedly the snowiest place east of the Rockies. Indeed, this winter wonderland receives almost 150 inches of snow on average.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy miles of trails for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and even snow biking. Need more excitement? Head to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and try your hand (and foot) at ice climbing on the striking sandstone cliffs there. Go snowshoeing around popular Presque Isle Park. Head downtown and go ice skating then have a beer by the fire at one of the local breweries. Visit in February and see the start of the well-known UP 200 dog sledding race. </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fairbanks, Alaska</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16350" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/9.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/9.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/9-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/9-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/9-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/9-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fairbanks is close to the town of North Pole, the state’s second-largest city, and one of the country’s best winter destinations. Visit at the beginning of Winter Solstice and watch as the city is blanketed in snow and the storefronts and streetlights are decked out in garland, lights, and tinsel. Perhaps the most popular activities here are focused on dog sledding, hot springs, reindeer ranches, and seeing the Northern Lights. You should also see the Christmas gift shop known as Santa’s Workshop. If you wait until early March, you can see a number of different cultural or artistic events such as the Festival of Native Arts, and the World Ice Sculpting Championships.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Wisconsin</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16352" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/10.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/10.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/10-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/10-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/10-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/10-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yes, this state has some of the nation’s coldest temperatures in winter. Still, there are many fun winter activities to be found here. Visit Door County and go ice fishing, ice skating, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can also take a fun winter wine tour and snowy sleigh ride, and then warm up with a real, old-school fish fry. There are also the ice caves of Apostle Island located in Bayfield. Found along lovely Lake Superior, they are in part the result of waves splashing onto the rock and partially freezing onto the cliff. Visit between late January through late February, since the lake has to be frozen solid in order to access the caves.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Duluth, Minnesota</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16353" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/11.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/11.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/11-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/11-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/11-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/11-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Duluth is found in the northern part of the state on the shores of well-known Lake Superior. There’s a surprising variety of both indoor and outdoor activities here and thus it is one of the country’s most underrated winter destinations. For example, there’s the annual Bentleyville “Tour of Lights”, which is the biggest, free seasonal light festival in the nation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Spirit Mountain is great for skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, and snow tubing too. Indoor activities include a weekend tour of the local assorted eateries. Veteran visitors recommend the Zeitgeist. It’s a nice diner complete with a boutique movie theater that focuses on indie films. There’s also the Rathskeller cocktail bar, situated in the old city hall building.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Denver, Colorado</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16354" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/12-feat.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/12-feat.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/12-feat-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/12-feat-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/12-feat-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/12-feat-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Denver is a great place for a winter weekend getaway. It’s close enough to the mountains to go skiing but it offers other activities. Head to Union Station where you’ll take in the sight of the quaint historic train station decorated for the holidays.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Do some ice skating in Skyline Park. If you have your own skates, it’s free. If not, you can rent adult skates for $9.00 or $7.00 for children aged 12 and under. Foodies can explore the Denver Central Food Market and get some culture at the Denver Art Museum. Be sure to see the towering 110-foot tree of lights in the center of the city throughout December.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Joshua Tree, California</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16355" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/13.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="502" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/13.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/13-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/13-696x466.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/13-627x420.jpg 627w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Some say this is one of those must-see places that is often too hot in the summer to truly enjoy. After all, most of the year, it’s generally 99 degrees Fahrenheit or more. Ah, but if you want to beat the heat, visit <a href="https://youtu.be/YPmdjA8_YOk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joshua Tree</a> from December through March when you can more comfortably explore this beautiful 794,000-acre area.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hike the Indian Cove Trail, which leaves clues about the Native American tribes that once lived here, or climb the famous “Chasm of Doom” which is the result of numerous huge boulders that are pressed together to form a rugged tunnel-like canyon. Get a good look at the iconic trees there as well.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-16356 aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/14-flickr.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="674" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/14-flickr.jpg 450w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/14-flickr-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/14-flickr-280x420.jpg 280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://youtu.be/LLWD2WIvRQk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rocky Mountain</a> National Park is yet another place that becomes a wonderful winter wonderland when the temperatures drop. While a portion of the park is closed in the winter, there is still a lot to do here. You can go cross-country or back-country skiing.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Put on your microspikes or snowshoes and do some winter hiking. Hike to Dream, Nymph, and Emerald Lakes. It is quite pretty in the winter and is less than four miles total. The trailhead is at Bear Lake. If you enjoy spotting wildlife, you are in luck. Indeed, it is not uncommon for park visitors to see such four-legged residents as bighorn sheep and even elk. </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mt Baker, Washington</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16357" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/15.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/15.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/15-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/15-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/15-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/15-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you enjoy snowy adventures, head to Mt Baker in Washington State’s Cascade Mountain range. The friendly Mt Baker Ski Resort is one of the nation’s few existing family-run ski resorts. Here you’ll find newbie-friendly runs to off-piste skiing for skiers who are more advanced.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s not one of the larger resorts and thus there are generally not long lift lines and the slopes are comparatively quiet. The prices are lower here too. Furthermore, this place usually gets the largest snowfall of any of the other resorts in the lower 48. If you’d rather go snowshoeing, the Artist Point snowshoe trail is highly recommended. It’s a well-marked trail and only four miles in length.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Leavenworth, Washington</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16358" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/16.jpg" alt="" width="737" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/16.jpg 737w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/16-300x206.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/16-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/16-696x477.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/16-613x420.jpg 613w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/16-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 737px) 100vw, 737px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you can’t afford to go see the Christmas Markets in Europe, despair not! Travel to the charming Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth. Although it’s just two hours from Seattle, your drive will take you to a place that seems far from there.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As the December holidays approach, Leavenworth becomes a twinkling scene from a seasonal snow globe. Visit the town’s gazebo and enjoy live music by performers in traditional German clothing as your kids go sledding there. Enjoy the famous Christmas lighting events held there on the weekends.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Want to avoid the crowds? Visit after Christmas, as the businesses there keep the lights lit throughout winter. You can go skiing, snowshoeing and hot-tubbing too.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">New York City, New York</span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/top-18-things-to-do-in-nyc/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York City</a> is a cosmopolitan <a href="https://youtu.be/-YNBfIYy3-k" target="_blank" rel="noopener">metropolis</a> that pulls out all the stops when temperatures drop, and the snow begins to fall. Marvel at the sight of the Empire State Building lit for the holidays. See the snow-covered city from high atop the famous building too.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Visit Rockefeller Center and see the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. You can even ice skate there (although it’s often crowded and costly.)! Veteran visitors suggest the Standard Rink or the Sky Rink as exceptional alternatives for ice skating. Stop at Radio City Music Hall and take in the annual Radio City Christmas Spectacular and watch the Rockettes literally kick up their heels as well.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hawaii</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16360" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/18.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/18.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/18-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/18-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/18-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/places-to-visit-in-hawaii/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hawaii</a>, the Big Island, offers visitors lush landscapes, beautiful beaches, and great weather all year long so it’s an exceptional winter destination and a great way to beat the summer crowds. Sources disagree on which island is the best, as it depends on one’s interest. The <a href="https://youtu.be/_WDbMg1dxqk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Big Island</a> has exceptional resorts, and Volcanoes National Park which features active volcanoes and the biggest volcano on the planet, and the Kona Brewery.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://youtu.be/kqcBfWHIxDg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kauai</a>, the Green Island, is highlighted by lush greenery and Waimea Canyon State Park. <a href="https://youtu.be/_CmVeKnAvJE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Maui</a> includes the Road to Hana, and arguably the best sunrise on Haleakalā. Oahu, the birthplace of yours truly, has Disney’s Aulani Resort, North Shore, Pearl Harbor, and Waikiki Beach.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Fort Lauderdale, Florida</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16361" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/19.jpg" alt="in winter" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/19.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/19-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/19-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/19-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/19-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Head to South Florida where you’ll find another hot US winter destination, Fort Lauderdale. Known to some as the “Venice of America”, it is becoming more popular as a great place to kick back on the beach and soak in some Vitamin D. Roughly 24 miles from its giant neighbor, Miami, it is reportedly literally becoming the “Queen of Florida.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yes, Fort Lauderdale has a gay scene that has significantly blossomed over the past couple of decades. Indeed, today it is one of the world’s “top LGBTQ destinations.” The best time to visit is from December to March. It’s outside of hurricane season and temperatures range between the high 50s and the mid-80s.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">New Orleans, Louisiana</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16362" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/20.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/20.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/20-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/20-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/20-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sure, Mardi Gras is on a lot of bucket lists. However, New Orleans is a fun, unique place to visit in winter too. The summer can be oppressively hot.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Even if you get a little chilly checking out the local architecture and culture, it’s perfectly legal to carry a warming adult beverage with you. (Of course, if you’re riding the streetcar, you best finish it before you board.) If you’ve already taken the French Quarter tour and are feeling more adventurous, check out Frenchmen Street.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here you’ll find numerous bars complete with a reportedly “eclectic clientele” perfect for people-watching. Other highlights here include the eateries and boutiques on Magazine Street and historic St. Charles Avenue.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Death Valley National Park, California</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16363" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/21.jpg" alt="" width="879" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/21.jpg 879w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/21-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/21-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/21-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/21-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 879px) 100vw, 879px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This national park is almost 215 miles out of L.A. Spanning more than 5,000 square miles, it’s the largest in the contiguous United States and includes a number of different landscapes. It’s also one of the hottest places on the planet.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Since it can be as hot as 120 degrees Fahrenheit here in the summer, why wouldn&#8217;t you visit in the winter? During the winter months, the weather is more agreeable and sightseeing and hiking the more than 30 hiking trails here is much more comfortable. The best time to visit is between November and March. Highlights include Badwater Basin, the Artist’s Palette, and Zabriskie Point.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lake Tahoe, California</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16364" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/22.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/22.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/22-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/22-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/22-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/22-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lake Tahoe is one of the country’s ultimate ski destinations. Therefore, it should be no surprise to see this place on this list. World-class slopes surround the lake and thus draw skiers from across the globe.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 1960 Olympics were even hosted here at the resort once named Squaw Valley. In fact, visitors can still ski some of the slopes used by the competitors. Not feeling quite that skilled?  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can opt for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or snow tubing. Check out the well-known Olympic museum atop one of the ski lifts too. Fly into Reno and score a free lift ticket from one of the area resorts as well!</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Woodstock, Vermont</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16365" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/23-freephoto.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/23-freephoto.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/23-freephoto-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/23-freephoto-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/23-freephoto-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Woodstock, Vermont is a historical destination. In the winter, however, it can be almost magical. After all, this area has a cold, long winter and snow is common from late November until early April.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The neighboring mountains are wonderful for skiing and snowboarding. Additionally, Woodstock has long been considered one of the country’s prettiest towns.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Indeed, this classic Currier-and-Ives-like village is art come to life. Picture the little homes and old covered bridges dusted with fresh snow. Be sure to check out the popular Wassail Weekend, and watch Woodstock transform into a beautiful Victorian Christmas world, complete with breakfast with Santa, charming horse-drawn sleighs, and more.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Washington, D.C.</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16366" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/24.jpg" alt="" width="804" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/24.jpg 804w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/24-300x185.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/24-768x473.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/24-696x429.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/24-682x420.jpg 682w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/24-356x220.jpg 356w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 804px) 100vw, 804px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Washington, D.C. is popular all year. However, it’s a great addition to any winter destination bucket list because you avoid the crowds and school tours. In the winter you can enjoy the holiday festivities and the usual tourist stops such as the National Mall, the fun-filled, adventurous Smithsonian Museums, the zoo, memorials, monuments, theaters, and even Michelin Star restaurants in the city. Be sure not to miss the yearly National Christmas Tree lighting on The Ellipse, next to the White House. Other highlights include the Christmas Market, the light maze at Enchant, the Zoolights at the National Zoo, and the art exhibit known as GLOW.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sedona, Arizona</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16367" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/25.jpg" alt="" width="641" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/25.jpg 641w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/25-300x236.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/25-533x420.jpg 533w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The intriguing topography and striking red rock scenery make Sedona a worthwhile addition to any list, especially if you enjoy hiking. During the day the temperature stays somewhere in the 60s. Sedona is also known for its healing culture.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here you will meet energy healers, enjoy healing massages, and experience the Sedona Vortex. Whether you believe in energy emanations and vortexes, veteran visitors confess to feeling great while there. One of the most popular attractions here is Devil’s Bridge.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The out-and-back hike to see it totals 4.2 miles, but it’s well worth the effort. Be sure to cross the natural bridge. It might look scary from afar but you actually have a wide path that doesn’t feel scary at all. (<a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/things-to-do-in-sedona-arizona/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sedona</a> also has the only McDonald’s with green arches!)</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We know everyone loves summer vacation! Summer is a great time to go places. But the truth is, winter is also an excellent time to travel if you know where to go! Just because it might get darker sooner, the days seem shorter, and the temperature may be cooler, doesn’t mean you can’t go places and have a great time! Indeed, as proof of that, we now present to you the 10 best winter cities in the world.</span></p>
<h4><i>10 Best Winter Cities in the World</i></h4>
<h3>1. New York City, USA</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16205" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="501" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/1-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/1-629x420.jpg 629w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">New York City is arguably the most famous city in the US state of New York. The “Big Apple” is a festive place for the winter holidays. The iconic Empire State Building is lit up and the view of the snow-dusted city below is almost magical.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Rockefeller Center comes complete with a brightly shining, towering Christmas tree and a fun ice-skating rink as well. Visit after the holiday weeks and you’ll notice that the drop in temperature results in the sidewalks, numerous stores, and assorted attractions being comparatively devoid of tourist crowds too.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Berlin, Germany</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16206" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/2.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="499" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/2.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/2-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/2-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Regular readers recall that during the holidays this city includes countless Christmas markets featuring festive stalls selling steaming-hot mugs of good Glühwein, sizzling German sausages, and such seasonal sweet treats as gingerbread houses. Yet even after New Year’s Eve, the capital still reportedly rocks winter. After it snows, Tiergarten Park transforms into a winter wonderland and there are actually official snowball fights in the city parks complete with DJs and even live music. See the remains of the iconic Berlin Wall and sample some currywurst at a cozy local eatery too.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">London, United Kingdom</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16207" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/3-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/best-live-music-venues-in-london-england/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">London</a>, England has a lot going for it in the winter. Shopaholics will be happy to know that the shopping is world-class even in the winter. The iconic tourist stops remain remarkable and some travel journalists say there is something quite “British” about a walk through Hyde Park when your breath steams out into the air and the grass is crisp beneath your feet. The friendly little pubs and intimate eateries emit a soft amber glow as the locals step out onto the streets swaddled in caps and scarves.</span></p>

<h2>Sydney, Australia</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16208" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/4.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/4.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/4-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/4-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/4-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/4-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For those who can’t get enough summer sun, you can always journey to the popular Northern Hemisphere when winter winds begin to blow. Go Down Under to Sydney where the temperature is always around 27 degrees Celsius. Hit the beach and go surfing or top off your tan. See the iconic sights and check out the local nightlife too. Veteran visitors say the best thing about Sydney in the winter is you pack your bathing suit and sandals instead of your winter coat.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Dublin, Ireland</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16209" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/5.jpg" alt="" width="766" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/5.jpg 766w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/5-300x194.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/5-696x450.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/5-650x420.jpg 650w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 766px) 100vw, 766px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ireland may not be a tropical paradise, but it is the only place to experience the infectious, indomitable Irish spirit. The warm, welcoming Dublin pubs and taverns quickly counteract the chilly air. Sample a pint and some live music with the locals. As previously reported, the Irish capital has something that instantly makes you feel at home. There’s also something to be said for exploring the breathtakingly beautiful Dublin Castle in the chill of winter. It sets a certain mood that makes it all the more enticing.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>San Diego, USA</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16210" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/6.jpg" alt="winter cities" width="655" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/6.jpg 655w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/6-300x231.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/6-545x420.jpg 545w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 655px) 100vw, 655px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">When you think of Christmas, you might not think of golfing, surfing, or paddleboarding. Nevertheless, those in the know can confirm that it’s a lot easier to find an intimate bit of beach when the tourists have traveled elsewhere, and the athletic types have gone to the mountains to go skiing. Why the others are wrapping up for winter, you can chill at La Jolla, tour the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier, check out scenic Coronado, take a harbor cruise, and even take the kids to Legoland. </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Chamonix, France</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16211" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/7.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/7.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/7-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/7-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/7-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/7-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the other hand, if you think winter wouldn’t be winter without a ski trip, then this is the place to be. Who can deny that the best part about the season can be schussing down the frozen side of a snowy mountain to end up all cozy with a steaming hot chocolate? Here in this stunning setting, you can also enjoy incredible panoramic views of the famous French Alps – including massive Mont Blanc. You don’t have to be an Olympic-class athlete to appreciate the splendor.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Prague, Czech Republic</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16212" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/8.jpg" alt="" width="832" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/8.jpg 832w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/8-300x178.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/8-768x457.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/8-696x414.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/8-706x420.jpg 706w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 832px) 100vw, 832px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Prague is cold in the winter, but it is world-famous for both its celebrations and its overall charm. Also known as the “City of a Thousand Spires”, the noteworthy baroque architecture and striking skyline towers over the frosty ground and is full of fun festivals. Visit in December and stroll the brightly-colored Christmas markets that line the olden streets and stay until New Year’s Eve and watch the sky erupt with fantastic fireworks. You can bid winter farewell in February or March at the masked Bohemia Carnival.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Reykjavik, Iceland</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignleft wp-image-16213 size-full" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/9.jpg" alt="winter cities" width="450" height="525" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/9.jpg 450w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/9-257x300.jpg 257w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/9-360x420.jpg 360w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For this trip, you’ll not only need your wooly winter wear but your bathing suit too. Yes, you read that correctly, here you can not only explore vast glaciers but also volcanic landscapes, and erupting geysers too. Here you can actually soak in the natural geothermal baths while watching the skies for the Northern Lights.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">What’s more, you will be doing it in one of the world’s most peaceful and safest countries. Check out the numerous restaurants and pubs too. Indeed, you simply must sample the wares at the Baejarins Beztu Pylsur hot dog stand, whose well-known customers include Kim Kardashian. </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>Havana, Cuba</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16214" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/10.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/10.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/10-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/10-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/10-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/10-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Like the water but want to avoid the wintery waters of Europe? Put on your bathing suit and hit the <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/19-things-to-do-in-the-caribbean/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Caribbean</a> here in Havana. Stroll the cobblestone streets often lined with classic cars, sample seafood fresh from the sea and eateries on the pretty palm-lined beaches, then drop in at a nightclub and you can salsa away the night. While the other athletic types are skiing on the slopes, you can be scuba diving off Cuba’s coast, discovering the colorful coral reefs under the sea.</span></p>

<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">1.  Lac de Joux, Switzerland</span></h3>
<figure id="attachment_13315" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-13315" style="width: 673px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-13315" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/1-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/1-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/1-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/1-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/1-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/1-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-13315" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of Pinterest</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will find the enormous alpine lake, Lac de Joux, at an altitude of nearly 3,300 feet, in the Jura Mountain Region in Switzerland, not far from the French border. It becomes Europe’s largest natural ice skating rink in the winter. The lake is ringed by a forest that in the colder months has a barren, frost-tinged beauty. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During the peak months of February and March, many visitors come to this special spot in the Jura Mountains. Indeed, the lake is so vast that speed skating here is truly thrilling.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lake Morey, USA</span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_13314" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-13314" style="width: 728px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-13314" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2-Photo-Lake-Morey-Resort-Facebook.jpg" alt="skating" width="728" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2-Photo-Lake-Morey-Resort-Facebook.jpg 728w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2-Photo-Lake-Morey-Resort-Facebook-300x208.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2-Photo-Lake-Morey-Resort-Facebook-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2-Photo-Lake-Morey-Resort-Facebook-696x483.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2-Photo-Lake-Morey-Resort-Facebook-605x420.jpg 605w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2-Photo-Lake-Morey-Resort-Facebook-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-13314" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of Lake Morey Resort/Facebook</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Located in the state of Vermont, this lake’s frozen perimeter becomes an icy 4.5-mile expedition. So strap on some Nordic skates&#8211;a cross-country ski boot with long metal blades&#8211;and get ready to take on the United States’ longest Nordic skating trail. You’ll skate along the edge of a thick forest of birch, maple, and pine trees. Keep an eye out for the local bald eagles perched in the rather bare branches in winter. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The local Lake Morey Resort rents skates, offers lessons, and maintains the trails here.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lake Louise, Canada</span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_13316" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-13316" style="width: 739px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="wp-image-13316 size-full" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/3-2.jpg" alt="" width="739" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/3-2.jpg 739w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/3-2-300x205.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/3-2-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/3-2-696x476.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/3-2-615x420.jpg 615w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 739px) 100vw, 739px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-13316" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of Pinterest</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Picturesque Lake Louise is nestled in Banff National Park, in Alberta. The best time to enjoy winter activities here is from December to roughly mid-April. The favored Fairmont Chateau hotel’s grounds staff maintains the lake to make sure the frozen surface is safe. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can even rent ice skates at the lake. Avoid the tourists and hit the ice after dark for a more serene skating experience.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Vermilion Lakes, Canada</span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_13317" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-13317" style="width: 750px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-13317" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/4-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/4-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/4-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/4-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/4-Image-courtesy-of-Pinterest-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-13317" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of Pinterest</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While in Alberta’s Banff National Park, why not go west, to this charming chain of lakes famous for its sunsets and sunrises? Lake Louise can be a bit busy during the winter holidays so this peaceful alternative might work better for those seeking some serenity.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Remember though that this terrific trio of lakes isn’t supervised so you’ll need to check the strength and depth of the ice before skating. Luckily, the water is generally little more than knee-deep but there’s no sense in being careless.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While there are several lakes in the area, Bogstadvannet is the second largest and most popular for winter skating. It’s located on the forested outskirts of Oslo. Barring truly stormy days, this is where local skaters can be found during what little daylight hours they have during the winter months. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This popular lake is beautifully bordered by Nordic woodlands, and only a 20-minute drive from the heart of the city as well.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mere minutes from the capital city of Stockholm you can spend days on a cross-country skating adventure via numerous world-class natural ice skating rinks. The Stockholm Archipelago’s waterways and the area lakes make one of the world’s best environments for ice-skating. An hour’s drive from the city, you can skate on the clear black ice of crystal clear Lake Mälaren. It is the fifth-largest lake in Europe covering an area of 440 square miles. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Mälaren region is both a beautiful and historic place. You can see several monuments from the Imperial Age including the onion-domed Gripsholm Castle while you skate!</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Evergreen Lake, Colorado</span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This large lake encompasses 40 acres and is surrounded by thickets of ponderosa and lodgepole pine trees that are vibrant and verdant all year&#8211;hence the lake’s name. Here visitors can partake in an actual natural ice-skating experience. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is arguably one of the largest groomed outdoor skating rinks in the world. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The locals actually employ a Zamboni to keep the ice usable for the ice hockey teams, and family and friends looking for an enjoyable afternoon skating experience. It’s roughly a 40-minute drive out of Denver. You can rent a pair of ice skates right there or even rent a cabin and stay overnight. </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Portage Lake, USA</span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Alaska is perhaps one of the ultimate destinations for backcountry skaters seeking a perfect, pristine expanse of ice. There are various ice caves, frozen rivers, and lagoons in south-central Alaska, but the Portage Lake in the popular Chugach National Forest is a paradise for those looking to skate in the wild. It’s nearly a mile wide and three miles long and is found at the foot of the icy monolith named Portage Glacier. Indeed, if you get tired of ice-skating, you could even ride across this lake on a specially outfitted fat bike, should you so desire.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Great Slave Lake, Canada</span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_13323" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-13323" style="width: 880px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-13323" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/9-Image-courtesy-of-YouTube.jpg" alt="" width="880" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/9-Image-courtesy-of-YouTube.jpg 880w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/9-Image-courtesy-of-YouTube-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/9-Image-courtesy-of-YouTube-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/9-Image-courtesy-of-YouTube-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/9-Image-courtesy-of-YouTube-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 880px) 100vw, 880px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-13323" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of YouTube</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As you may have already realized, there are a number of different incredible natural ice skating destinations here in Canada. Nevertheless, there are not many more spectacular than the icy Arctic lakes located in the Northwest Territories. The Great Slave Lake is not far from Yellowknife, the regional capital.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is the world’s tenth-largest lake just 250 miles from the Arctic Circle. Hence you might even get a glimpse of the great shape-shifting lights known as the aurora borealis. Ice skaters use this lake almost half the year. Stop by in late March and attend the much-loved Long John Jamboree, where skate-clad partiers revel one last time prior to the spring melt.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lake Baikal, Russia</span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you ever get to Siberia, be sure to participate in what some call one of the world’s “most stunning” ice skating experiences. This freshwater lake spans an area of 12,248 square miles. This World Heritage-listed wonder is actually larger than all of Belgium and holds more water than the Great Lakes combined. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The best time to visit is between the months of November and April when it transforms into the planet’s largest <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/most-incredible-natural-ice-rinks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ice skating</a> rink. The ice is, on average, more than a foot thick and is so transparent you can actually see through it into the unfrozen black abyss below.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Looking for a little winter break but can’t afford anything especially exotic or too terribly tropical? Perhaps you like the bite of the fresh winter air and the sight of freshly fallen snow. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Whatever the case might be, America’s natural wonders take on a whole new look once Jack Frost arrives. The frozen scenery in the US can be pretty awe-inspiring and you can beat the crowds too. Thus, without further ado, here are seven American wonders of winter.</span></p>
<h3>1.  Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-10636" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-6-819x1024.jpg" alt="" width="696" height="870" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-6-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-6-240x300.jpg 240w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-6-768x960.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-6-696x870.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-6-336x420.jpg 336w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-6.jpg 835w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Beautiful Bryce Canyon National Park is located in Utah.  Visit during the winter and you’ll be rewarded with memorable views of Bryce Canyon&#8217;s snow-draped hoodoos.  These high natural rock structures were formed many, many years ago from ice, water, and wind erosion.  If that’s not enough for you, don’t worry.  There’s a lot to see and do here even in winter.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After all, the popular Bryce Canyon is a distinctive group of natural amphitheaters.  You will find them located one mile up and are only said to be a “canyon” for publicity purposes. If you like stars, be sure to visit when it’s dark so you can participate in the annual astronomy event.  Check in at The Lodge there and you can take advantage of other winter programs.</span></p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h2>2.  Coyote Buttes, Arizona</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10635" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-5.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="494" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-5.jpg 700w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-5-300x212.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-5-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-5-696x491.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-5-595x420.jpg 595w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The rugged Coyote Buttes is actually a part of the popular Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness.  The property stretches across north-central Arizona and south-central Utah.  Head south of south of US 89 and you will find it halfway between Page, Arizona and Kanab, Utah.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Coyote Buttes includes two separate sections. Coyote Buttes North and Coyote Buttes South.  Veteran visitors suggest seeing &#8220;The Wave,&#8221; a stunning sandstone rock formation found in Coyote Buttes North.  The multi-colored appearance of the sandstone is due to the presence of different iron oxide pigments inside the various layers.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be sure to see the popular trample surface or dinosaur trackway too.  Remember though that in order to properly preserve this place, everyone must purchase a hiking permit.  A maximum of 20 people is permitted each day.</span></p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h2>3.  Joshua Tree National Park, California</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10637" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-7.jpg" alt="" width="860" height="460" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-7.jpg 860w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-7-300x160.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-7-768x411.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-7-696x372.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-7-785x420.jpg 785w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Take in the sight of the sun rising over the sturdy, snow-dusted Joshua trees found in California&#8217;s impressive Mojave Desert.  This place was made world-famous when the Irish rock band U2 released their 1987 album <em>Joshua Tree</em>.  This national park Is actually promoted as the spot where two different desert ecosystems meet, the Colorado and the Mojave.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It was also reportedly last year’s official 11th most-visited national park.  This place is home to a number of different flora and fauna, as well as approximately 501 individual archeological sites and the best group of rugged rock-climbing faces in the entire country.  Finally, this park has some truly surreal geological features and a surprisingly rich cultural history.  Take it from your rovin’ writer, it’s also a good place to go hiking. </span></p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h2>4.  Multnomah Falls, Oregon</h2>
<figure id="attachment_10639" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10639" style="width: 512px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><a href="https://www.instagram.com/alberthbyang/"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-10639" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-9.jpg" alt="" width="512" height="640" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-9.jpg 512w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-9-240x300.jpg 240w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1-9-336x420.jpg 336w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10639" class="wp-caption-text">Photo By: <a href="https://www.instagram.com/alberthbyang/">@alberthbyang</a></figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The </span><b> </b><span style="font-weight: 400;">Multnomah Falls look incredible no matter when you visit but there are certainly fewer crowds there in the winter months.  You will find them off of Multnomah Creek in the well-known Columbia River Gorge, between Dodson and Corbett just east of Troutdale.  You can access the falls and other wonders from Interstate 84 and the well-known Historic Columbia River Highway.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">These beautiful falls span two tiers down cliffs of basalt.  It is 620 feet high and is therefore the tallest one in the entire state.  Even after an icy storm, the water will continue to drop down into the river.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Take in the view from the impressive Benson Bridge, erected in 1914.  Stop at the renowned Multnomah Falls Lodge. It and all the trails there have been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1981.</span></p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h2>5.  St. Joseph Lighthouses, Michigan</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10583" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-wiki.jpg" alt="" width="765" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-wiki.jpg 765w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-wiki-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-wiki-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/5-wiki-636x420.jpg 636w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 765px) 100vw, 765px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Take it light in St. Joseph, (a.k.a. St Joe to the locals)  Michigan.  The famous St. Joseph Situated on Lake Michigan, the lighthouses successfully withstand the winter elements.  Erected in the early 1900s, the pair of lighthouses and the accompanying outer light is said to be perhaps the oldest on the well-known lake.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Those who have been confirm that the walk from popular Silver Beach to the lighthouses is “perfect distance” if you’re up for a little exercise.  These lighthouses are also a great place to get away from the summer beach scene and the view is always noteworthy regardless of when you visit.  Some people even find the lighthouses and surrounding area perfect for a romantic hand-in-hand stroll.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yellowstone </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">National Park</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> actually spans the states of </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho.  Founded back in 1872, it includes almost 5,592 square miles of ground.  It’s one of the first. oldest, and most popular national parks on earth.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Veteran visitors say you need to visit the colorful Belgian Pool.  It’s a memorable hot spring nestled in the Upper Geyser Basin of the park.  First christened Oyster Spring, this unique natural wonder was rechristened after a Belgian man accidentally fell into it back in 1929 and received fatal thermal burns.  So don’t get too close!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be sure to check out the park’s famous geysers too.  Need more?  See the canyons, </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">lakes, mud pots, fields, and waterfalls as well.  Go hiking, camping, rafting, take tours, and more. </span></p>

<h2>Ice Castles<span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-10494" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-4.jpg" alt="" width="620" height="413" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-4.jpg 620w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-4-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ice Castles is an American company founded in 2011. This interesting enterprise is dedicated to the creation of a truly unique winter wonderland like no other. They offer visitors a must-see, inspiring, winter phenomenon.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to the official Ice Castles company website, Ice Castles&#8217; primary goal “is to make people smile.” Their award-winning, frigid ice attraction is created “with hundreds of thousands of icicles” that are actually “hand-placed by professional ice artists” thus making frozen fantasies a reality. . . if only while the cold weather lasts. Touted as “winter’s most magical attraction,” each artistic ice structure is said to weigh approximately 25 million pounds. They include lovely LED lights, fountains, ice-carved slides, thrones, and tunnels.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The people at Ice Castles have multiple seasonal locations. Each location has its own icy, individualistic features and designs. Every year since the company’s founding, Ice Castles reportedly strives to bring “fairy tales to life “for hundreds of thousands of families” all over the continent of North America.</span></p>

<h2>The full story behind Ice Castles</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-10493" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3-1024x576.jpg" alt="" width="696" height="392" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-3.jpg 1280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Since the enterprise’s inception, this venture has been “dedicated to creating an experience that will live on long after the ice melts.” The company hopes that every guest who walks through their “icicle-adorned archways” finds the experience a real source of both “joy and inspiration.” Interestingly enough, after relocating from California to Utah, Brent Christensen, the founder of Ice Castles, built his first ice creation in his own front yard simply to make his six kids happy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">His original ice cave was the perfect cure for their snowy, stir-crazy cabin fever. Ah, but his cool creation was more than a hit with his own family. The neighborhood kids loved it as well.</span></p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h2>The name</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-10303" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/3.jpg" alt="" width="748" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/3.jpg 748w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/3-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/3-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/3-628x420.jpg 628w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">People from all over town got wind of his icy invention. Soon they were all bundling up, braving the winter weather, and coming to experience his first fun, frozen fortification. The children were soon referring to Christensen’s seasonal playground as the “ice castle.”  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The name stuck and thus all the new wintry wonderlands and today the company is known as Ice Castles. As noted on the website, even though “Ice Castles has grown significantly” since its official launching, “ our mission remains the same – to create happiness, laughter, and unforgettable winter memories.” Ice Castles has even helped adults rediscover the fun inherent in ice and snow and to remember that winter can be more than chains and snow tires, shoveling sidewalks, and salting icy walkways.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At every location, people will discover light shows, one-of-a-kind mazes, special events, and more. Each individual construct has its own identity due to the individual local climates. Ryan Davis, a board member, once told NBC: “Mother Nature is our primary architect, and we are always amazed by what she allows us to create each season.” He added the company’s crews work hard to layout each “castle’s design so [they] can build a unique, winter experience that is fun for people of all ages.” </span></p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h2>Do you want to build an Ice Castle?</h2>
<figure id="attachment_10304" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10304" style="width: 756px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-10304" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/4.jpg" alt="" width="756" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/4.jpg 756w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/4-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/4-629x420.jpg 629w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 756px) 100vw, 756px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10304" class="wp-caption-text">Photo Credit: AJ Mellor</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ice Castle reports that each ice castle is handmade entirely out of ice. It requires a team of between 20 and 40 ice artisans putting in “thousands of man-hours” to complete each construct. On a normal workday, the construction process includes creating between 5,000 and 12,000 icicles that workers then harvest by hand and individually sculpt into formation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Once the icicles are put into place, they are soaked with water. The combination of wind, water volume, temperatures, and specific icicle placement lead to an ever-changing, amazing assortment of individual ice formations. Each of these towering castles takes two months to erect and spans an area of roughly one acre.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The LED lights used to light the castles are frozen inside the structures. They are timed to “twinkle to music” to add “a magical ambiance” to these icy interactive sculptures. Each ice castle must be built by a natural source of water. This way, in spring the water will return to the environment to be once more used by people, plants, and wildlife.   </span></p>

<h2>Locations, hours, and other info</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-10495" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-5-685x1024.jpg" alt="" width="685" height="1024" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-5-685x1024.jpg 685w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-5-201x300.jpg 201w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-5.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-5-696x1040.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/1-5-281x420.jpg 281w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ice castles are open to visitors of all ages. In the US, they are usually found in Dillon, Colorado; North Woodstock, New Hampshire; New Brighton, Minnesota; Midway, Utah; and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. There is also one in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Open dates are dependent on the local weather. In general, they open in either late December or early January and are available to the public until some time in early March. The ticket prices vary per location.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ice Castle fans can catch a preview of what’s to come for each winter by visiting Ice Castle’s official </span><a href="https://www.instagram.com/icecastles_/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Instagram</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> account. Interested parties can also visit the official Ice Castles </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">website</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> where they can sign up for special alerts that will notify them of when a new ice castle will be opening near them.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the well-known Yelp! Customer review website several reviewers remind visitors to wear waterproof or ski pants so they will not only stay dry but go faster on the slides. Karen B. of Alberta Beach, Canada was but one of many people to recently praise the seasonal attraction. She said:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I have to say, the Ice Castles never fail to amaze me! The gorgeous ice formations and colour-changing lights are magical! The snow Buffalo was really cool (pun totally intended), as were the rest of the ice sculptures! I really loved the ice thrones too, perfect for pics.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She added that the ice slides were “a must-try regardless of your age. The ice tunnels and igloos are fun. She concluded that ice <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/most-beautiful-medieval-castles/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">castles</a> are a “fun night for all.”</span></p>

<p>Are you in the mood for something different this holiday season? Do you enjoy winter but want to avoid the holiday blues? Try getting away to one of these 15 perfect winter wonderlands.</p>
<h4>Munich, Germany</h4>
<p>Munich is the capital of Bavaria and the third-largest city in Germany. Wintertime there is highlighted by centuries-old traditions. One of the most popular places is the Christkindlmarket in the city’s world-famous Marienplatz. Here you can enjoy some hot mulled wine served in a handcrafted mug, take in the numerous elaborate gingerbread houses and pick up some exceptional artisanal toys hand carved from wood.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>Shirakawa, Japan</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6657" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-7.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="485" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-7.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-7-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-7-696x462.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-7-632x420.jpg 632w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Shirakawa is a village located in Gifu prefecture in Japan. Due, in part, to the traditional architecture of the homes there, it has been officially deemed an official UNESCO World Heritage site. See the minka building style that includes the well-known vertiginous thatched roofs meant to keep heavy snowfalls from collapsing them. After all, Shirakawa is reported to have “some of the heaviest snowfall” on the planet.</p>
