3.  Christ of the Abyss, Italy

This is the original underwater Jesus statue although a few copies can be found elsewhere. It is located off the western coast of Italy, not far from San Fruttuoso. Currently coral-encrusted, this statue is 2.4 meters high and rests 17 meters under the sea. It was sculpted by Guido Galletti and commissioned by the Italian scuba diver Duilio Marcante in 1954. It was meant to honor fellow scuba diver Dario Gonzatti who died while diving in 1947.
