8. The Abacos, The Bahamas

The Abacos is located less than 187 miles east of the state of Florida. Here you will discover some of the best water in the world for sailing. Also known as the Family Islands or the Out Islands, this peaceful place seems a world away from the tourist traps of Florida. Here you can enjoy pine-fringed, semi-private beaches, quaint fishing villages, and lively coral reefs. Here the main modes of transportation are boats and golf carts.

History buffs will note the impact of the Brit Loyalists who originally settled here. It can be seen in the colonial cottages. The Dominican Republic on the island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles is a great choice for travelers on a budget looking for a tropical vacation. Mind you, this place is not simply great value resorts and beautiful beaches. DR is home to a number of diverse ecosystems too.

It includes coral reefs, deserts, jungles, mangroves, savanna, and green peaks. Go white water rafting in the popular Río Yaque del Norte. Hike through the jungle to the waterfalls, and go bicycling through pine forests.

Visit Santo Domingo. It’s the capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to its history and colonial architecture. If you’d like to stay at an all-inclusive resort head to La Romana, Punta Cana, or Samaná. If you just want to dive, snorkel, sunbathe, surf, and swim, you can do that as well.

Port Douglas is located roughly an hour north of the city of Cairns in Queensland. An ideal place for nature lovers, it’s close to the Daintree Rainforest, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Of course, you needn’t leave PD to enjoy the beach. Port Douglas has Four Mile Beach. It’s a great place for long walks on the beach but there’s no swimming during infamous stinger season (from November through June).

Additional attractions include riding the Bally Hooley Sugar Train through the cane fields to Mossman, the Wildlife Habitat, and fishing trips through the Cape York Peninsula. The best time to go is from May through September when it’s cooler and drier.

This is not only the place for fiery food, exotic culture, and wonderful scenery, but it won’t break your budget either. The Nicoya Peninsula is situated on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. Its jungle-like forests attract eco-tourists but this place is much more than that. While Tamarindo is a big tourist town where you can zipline and go horseback riding, there are other places to see if you wish to avoid the tourist trade.

Playa Tamarindo is perfect for surfers of all skill levels and also includes plenty of hotels and restaurants. This place attracts backpackers, families, too. If you love leatherback turtles the best time to visit is when they nest at Playa Grande from October through March. The purpose of the Vessel was to create balance and harmony within a grid of vertical glass and metal. Each level was coated with noncorrosive steel. It’s supposed to mirror the movement and action below and above the 150-foot high vessel’s every level. This makes it more interactive.

El Peñon de Guatape can be found near Medellin in Colombia. It is roughly 40+ miles east of the Colombian city. It is a towering 7,000-foot rock that has become a major landmark in the area. 18. Moses Bridge

Moses Bridge can be found in Halsteren, Netherlands. The bridge is aptly named as it does have a biblical quality or two. It is built of waterproof wood, much like Noah’s Ark and parts the sea and permits visitors to stay dry while walking through a moat.

The bridge certainly does not appear to be high tech. But online sources confirm that the company that designed the bridge, RO&AD architects, the firm actually included adjustable dams on both sides of the moat in order to ensure that the water’s height can always be controlled.

20. “Forever Marilyn”

Also listed on this website as one of the “most amazing giant sculptures,” it took Chinese artists two years to complete this work. This 25-foot tall sculpture was inspired by the 1955 movie “The Seven Year Itch.” It’s been displayed both the USA and Australia.

19.  The statue of Ganesha

This eye-catching bright pink giant statue of Ganesha is a genuine tourist attraction. This statue of the much-loved and famous Hindu god can be found in Thailand in the province of Chachoengsao. It stands 52 feet high and is 78 feet wide.

18. The statue of Mevlana Rumi

17. The Mansu Hill Grand Monument

9. The Christ the King monument

Found in Swiebodzin, Poland, The famous Christ the King monument towers 172 feet high. (Just the crown alone is over 10 feet tall.) The locals reportedly donated all the money required to create the stunning monument.

This huge reclining buddha is located in a popular temple in Yangon in Myanmar. It’s one of the largest statues in Burma as it is over 217 feet in length. It includes a crown encrusted in diamonds and was officially consecrated in 1973.

This popular and historic public swimming pool located in Coral Gables was opened in 1924. The pool was designed by Denman Fink and Phineas Paist. It is found in an old quarry. Every day it displaces approximately 820,000 US gallons or 3,100 m3 of water from local artesian wells. Thus, it is the country’s biggest freshwater pool.

21. Seagaia Ocean Dome, Miyazaki, Japan

Opened in 1993, the Polynesian-themed Seagaia Ocean Dome used to be the largest waterpark in the world. It was 100 meters wide and 300 meters long and was actually a part of the popular Sheraton Seagaia Resort. The Dome was shut down in 2007, reopened in 2016, closed again in 2017 and has since been demolished.
