22. The Drake Passage

In order for a ship’s passengers and crew to survive the Drake Passage, they must meet the challenges of strong currents, numerous icebergs, poor visibility, and wind speeds up to 80 miles per hour. Located between the South Shetland Islands of Antarctica and South America’s Cape Horn, this passage has been a ship cemetery for sea vessels that capsized here from Magellan’s times ‘til the erection of the Panama Canal in the 1900s.
