It is a popular slot canyon that’s narrow yet still not too difficult to navigate. It comes complete with incredible, rugged rock formations created by many, many years of water and wind erosion.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The sunlight only enters this canyon from above. Thus, at specific times of the day, visitors can witness the sandstone comes alive with a stunning array of colors. The elements-smoothed walls turn a pretty purple-orange making it one of the United States’ most evocative, unique national parks. To help make the most of your visit, here are some Antelope Canyon travel tips.</span></p>
<h3><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Antelope Canyon Travel Tips </span></i></h3>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Antelope Canyon: General Information</span></h2>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17328" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Gen-Info.jpg" alt="Antelope" width="811" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Gen-Info.jpg 811w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Gen-Info-300x183.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Gen-Info-768x469.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Gen-Info-696x425.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Gen-Info-688x420.jpg 688w" sizes="(max-width: 811px) 100vw, 811px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This striking slot canyon near the city of Page is famous for both its Upper and Lower Canyons. Oddly, few traveler writers ever mention what some call Antelope Canyon X. The Upper Canyon is perhaps the most well-known and is situated off an unpaved road.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Private vehicles are not permitted there. It’s miles away from the Lower Canyon which is situated closer to lovely Lake Powell. Unlike other US parks, you must actually book an official tour.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The canyon is nestled within the Navajo Nation, so when you book your tour you will have to pay a Navajo or tourist tax. If the tour company does not immediately charge you when you purchase your ticket, you will have to pay it when you arrive before your tour begins. The park is open all week but hours vary depending on the season you visit.</span></p>
<h2>Hours And Booking</h2>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17329" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/hours.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/hours.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/hours-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/hours-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/hours-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you visit between late March and November 1, it is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you visit between November 2 through early March, the hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Remember that the state has two time zones too!  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Since visitors are required to book a tour, be sure to make reservations in advance. You can do it online, in most cases. (Note: While it’s also possible to do it in person in nearby Page, Antelope Canyon is too popular to make reservations at the last minute.)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After booking your tour, be sure to peruse your paperwork to make sure you know what time to arrive at your chosen tour provider’s location. It is not uncommon for agencies to require you to arrive an hour before your tour time in order to check in. The Navajo can be strict about tour start times and could cancel on you for being a few minutes tardy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In general, tours run roughly one and a half hours. Tour time includes transportation from the town and can be somewhat bumpy as the vehicle speeds over the rugged terrain. (Note: The Lower Antelope Canyon tour generally runs under one hour, because you must provide your own transportation to the tour’s starting point.)</span></p>
<h2>Best Time To Visit</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17330" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/best.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/best.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/best-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/best-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/best-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/best-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The best time to visit is usually during the summer. It is then that you can best enjoy the unique light effects created when the rays of the sunshine into the canyon. It may be good to note that the peak season is reported to be between March 14th and October 8th. The rainiest months are August and September.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Visitors to Antelope Canyon are not permitted to wear a backpack. Water bottles, however, are recommended.  </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Guided tours are reportedly required because of potentially dangerous flash floods. 11 travelers are reported to have died in Antelope Canyon on August 12, 1997.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Upper Vs. The Lower Antelope Canyon</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17331" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/UvL.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/UvL.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/UvL-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/UvL-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/UvL-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/UvL-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Let’s discuss both the differences and main features of the Upper and Lower Antelope Canyon by focusing on touring them both.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Touring The Upper Antelope Canyon </span></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17336" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/upper.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="502" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/upper.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/upper-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/upper-696x466.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/upper-627x420.jpg 627w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Navajo refer to the upper canyon as “the place where the water flows through the rocks.” This is the most visited and most well-known section. In fact, five different tour businesses offer tours here.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is the most popular because it is a bit wider and that makes it more accessible. It is shaped like an inverted V. It’s wider at the top and more narrow at the bottom.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is also deeper. This means it is darker and cooler. Nevertheless, sunlight still gets into the canyon in a number of different places.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This tour route is a loop trail in the canyon. It is only about a quarter of a mile but there are frequent stops in order to allow returning tour groups to pass. Veteran visitors confess that it can be a little “nerve-wracking” at times. There are no officially difficult parts though and with the exception of those who are claustrophobic, anyone can participate.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Touring The Lower Antelope Canyon </span></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17337" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lower.jpg" alt="" width="878" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lower.jpg 878w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lower-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lower-768x433.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lower-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lower-745x420.jpg 745w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 878px) 100vw, 878px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The lower canyon isn’t as deep. It is, however, quite pretty due to the way the light strikes the canyon walls and the rock shapes are not that much different than those found in the upper canyon. For those of you who prefer to avoid tourists, the biggest advantage to this tour is that there are only two businesses that conduct tours here.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That translates to fewer lines and, sometimes, when there is a low turnout, you can even stay there a little bit longer. This is also a one-way hike with a length of just over one-quarter of a mile. There are five iron ladders used to get into the canyon and some might consider them steep.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In some places, the route might be challenging because there are areas where the space between the canyon walls is very narrow and it’s not so easy to walk through. Nevertheless, unless you suffer from claustrophobia or vertigo, you’re good to go.</span></p>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">Antelope Canyon X: An Alternative</span></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17338" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ac-xxxxxxx.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ac-xxxxxxx.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ac-xxxxxxx-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ac-xxxxxxx-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/ac-xxxxxxx-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ah, but there is a remote portion of the canyon that not everyone knows about named Antelope Canyon X. Now that the slot canyons around the town of Page have become more popular, booking a tour here less than four miles south of the upper canyon, may just be the only way for you to take in the Antelope Canyon’s characteristic shapes at a slower pace. Only one agency provides tours here.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Your tour guide will take you to the trailhead via an almost three-mile stretch of unpaved, dirt road. You will find two slot canyons, North and South, in Antelope Canyon X. They have different shapes and you only need a regular ticket to visit them.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here you will discover what some call a blend of the famous features found in the upper and lower canyons. The views are reported to be nigh-identical. The initial portion of the tour here can be a bit difficult although you won’t have to climb anything. If you’re on a budget, or simply can’t resist a bargain, the tour of Antelope Canyon X is cheaper than the others too.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">How To Get To Antelope Canyon</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17332" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/tour.jpg" alt="Antelope" width="750" height="497" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/tour.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/tour-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/tour-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/tour-634x420.jpg 634w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hopefully, you’ve pre-booked your spot on the tour of Upper Antelope Canyon. The agency should provide you with a meeting point address, and a required check-in time.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you sign up to tour the Lower Antelope Canyon, you may have to find your own transportation to a parking area on Indian Route 222, in Page. There’s also the possibility that the tour agency might give you specific instructions and directions when you book your tour.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you choose instead to take the tour of Antelope Canyon X, you will have to drive to the tour agency’s office. There you will park your vehicle and your tour guide will lead you to the entrance of the canyon.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Photographing Antelope Canyon</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-17333 alignleft" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/photog.jpg" alt="" width="460" height="690" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/photog.jpg 460w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/photog-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/photog-280x420.jpg 280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 460px) 100vw, 460px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you’re a shutterbug looking to shoot Antelope Canyon, you must first determine what you hope to accomplish before determining what time to go there. In general, visitors will reportedly enjoy the most extraordinary colors on sunny days in the summer. Photographers in the know suggest booking a tour for 11:00 a.m.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That way, you will actually be in the canyon at roughly 11:30 a.m. That is arguably the best time to make the most of the extraordinary lighting. Unfortunately, the lighting is best during the time of day when the canyon contains the highest number of tourists.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So be prepared to come up with some creative ways to get those memorable, Instagramable photos. If you absolutely must avoid the busiest times, you could visit in the spring or even early fall.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Helpful Hint</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17334" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/helpful.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="502" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/helpful.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/helpful-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/helpful-696x466.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/helpful-627x420.jpg 627w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Remember, if you plan ahead but are still unable to book a tour of the Upper Antelope Canyon on your given vacation days, try to purchase a tour of the Lower Antelope Canyon. It’s usually not as crowded. If all else fails, you spend less and avoid the tourists by taking a tour of the lesser-known Antelope Canyon X.</span></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Accommodations</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-17335" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lake-powell-page.jpg" alt="Antelope" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lake-powell-page.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lake-powell-page-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lake-powell-page-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/lake-powell-page-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stay in the city of Page is located on U.S. Route 89. Travel experts agree it’s the best place to spend the night as it is not even 15 minutes from Antelope Canyon. There are a number of <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/hotels-youd-book-for-the-bathtub/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hotels</a> available. You can research both the 10 best and the least expensive online.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The picturesque Water Wheel Falls is nestled between the Mogollon Rim and Payson. It’s easy to find too because it’s actually upstream of Ellison Creek Cascades. The hike is short and easy so it’s a family-friendly trip as well.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While hikers are well aware of the hiking trail here at Water Wheel Falls, the waterfall inarguably adds a true touch of natural beauty to this already pretty, popular trail. Here you will discover not only the waterfalls, but picnic grounds, and cold spring water. The crowds are actually thinner here because this place is comparatively more secluded. In fact, you might just get lucky and find you have the whole swimming hole all to yourself.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Encinoso Swimming Hole, Oak Creek</span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yes, comparatively speaking, the popular Encinoso swimming hole may be considered to be small and yet veteran visitors say it still packs a punch! This swimming hole and the surrounding area are great for both a quick, relaxing midweek escape or a wet weekend getaway. The landscape here in Oak Creek Canyon is reported to be picturesque, scenic, and stunning and the water there is green and gorgeous.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s a super spot to picnic, sunbathe, or just relax and lounge next to the swimming hole. If you’re feeling athletic you can explore a couple of the hiking trails that offer travelers superb views of everything that Oak Creek offers. Another popular pastime here is birdwatching. Apparently, the area is home to a number of diverse species of birds that are drawn towards the verdant vegetation that grows here. </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Roper Lake, Tucson</span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Roper Lake has rightfully been described by others as clear blue, bright, and stunning. Both locals and tourists consider this virtual oasis in the Arizona desert to be both inviting and invigorating too. Not only are several different water sports such as boating, fishing, swimming, and lakeside sunbathing offered here on this beautiful body of water, but you can also go camping here.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here you can also have a nice, relaxing soak in the natural hot springs, but you can also go hiking on the different trails close to Dankworth Pond. Additionally, you could be surprised by the variety of wildlife such as small mammals and birds that call this place their home. Other fun activities you can engage in here include barbecuing, picnicking, and camping as well.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Are you into spelunking? Are you at all curious about exploring caves? If you’re headed in the direction of the US state of Arizona, have we got the place for you.  In fact, we have several places to check out some cool caves complete with unique formations and a multitude of miscellaneous minerals too. Get ready to take notes, readers, because here are the 15 best caves to explore in Arizona.</span></p>
<h4><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">15 Best Caves to Explore in Arizona</span></em></h4>
<h3><span style="font-weight: 400;">1. Kartchner Caverns State Park</span></h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16791" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-wiki.jpg" alt="caves" width="848" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-wiki.jpg 848w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-wiki-300x175.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-wiki-768x448.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-wiki-696x406.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-wiki-720x420.jpg 720w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 848px) 100vw, 848px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This state park is located outside of Benson. This cave system was discovered by cave enthusiasts Gary Tenen and Randy Tufts in 1974. The limestone Kartchner Caverns are highlighted by the longest stalactite structure in the world, developing stalagmites, unique minerals, a large bat population, and numerous nooks and <a href="https://youtu.be/vm1_aCjrC5o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cavernous</a> crannies to see.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be the Gilligan of the spelunking set, and be sure to book and take the “three-hour tour.” You can visit even on the hottest day in summer because these caves are kept at a comfy 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Here you can see the different travertine rock formations up close and gain a truer understanding of the time required to form the fragile towers and spindles and geology in general. You can also go camping, go hiking, do some wildlife viewing, and rent a cabin if you don’t like tents. Visit the Discovery Center too. The entrance fee here is $7.00 per vehicle. </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Soldier Pass Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-16914" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-1024x768.jpg" alt="" width="696" height="522" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Soldier-Pass-Cave.jpg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hikers who are cave-curious will enjoy the easily accessible Soldiers Pass Cave Spur Trail just three miles from downtown Sedona. It’s a less-than-three-mile out-and-back hiking trail often rife with pretty wildflowers, is family-friendly, and fine for hikers of all skill levels. The most popular activities here are hiking and wildlife viewing.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This cave not only provides summer visitors with cool shade from the Arizona heat but also allows them to enjoy watching the interior colors change as the sun changes position. The gated lot at Soldier Pass Trailhead No. 66 only has a dozen or so parking spots so get there early. Otherwise, you will end up parking on the street and adding almost another mile to your hike.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Check the signs too because you are not allowed to just park anywhere on the street. The trailhead has set hours. It’s open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Interested in taking in the sunrise or sunset? Then park on the street.</span></p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Birthing Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-16915" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-1024x768.jpg" alt="" width="696" height="522" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-1068x801.jpg 1068w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Birthing-Cave.jpg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While you’re in Sedona, check out the Birthing Cave too. There’s an easy, flat, wide, two-mile out-and-back hiking trail to this shallow cave nestled on the side of a small cliff. It has a large diamond-shaped opening overlooking the city’s red rocks.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oddly, while this cave is supposedly quite popular and the cave can be busy with other hikers, the trail itself is rather uncrowded and peaceful, all things considered. Veteran visitors suggest parking off the road at the Long Canyon Trailhead and starting your hike there. Unlike the parking lots at Devil&#8217;s Bridge or Cathedral Rock, the parking lot at the trailhead is surprisingly small.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be sure to watch for an obvious hollow in the face of the rock. That’s where you will discover the Birthing Cave. If you like wildflowers, visit between early March through May. Otherwise, the temperatures can be just as nice during September and October. The cave faces east so try to see the sunrise there.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Subway Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-large wp-image-16907 aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Sedona-Arizona-819x1024.jpg" alt="" width="696" height="870" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Sedona-Arizona-819x1024.jpg 819w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Sedona-Arizona-240x300.jpg 240w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Sedona-Arizona-768x960.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Sedona-Arizona-696x870.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Sedona-Arizona-336x420.jpg 336w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Sedona-Arizona.jpg 864w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Boynton Canyon Trail will lead you to the once-hidden gem known as Subway Cave in Sedona. While this secret cave is no longer so secret, much of the trail and even the cave itself are still unmarked and easy to miss if you aren’t paying attention. If the parking lot at the Boynton Canyon Trailhead is full, park a short distance away on Boynton Pass Road. Keep track of how far you hike because the turnoff that leads to the cave is near the second mile.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is not marked and is easy to miss. Veteran visitors can confirm that some locals and even other hikers sometimes throw branches across the turnoff in order to hide it. Ah, but while this trail is sometimes hard to follow and is often overgrown, the cave is incredible inside. Be sure to get a gander at the striking Native American ruins right on the ledge along the left side of the cave too.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Shaman’s Cave also known as Robbers’ Roost</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16803" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/14-flickr-1.jpg" alt="" width="990" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/14-flickr-1.jpg 990w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/14-flickr-1-300x150.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/14-flickr-1-768x384.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/14-flickr-1-696x348.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/14-flickr-1-840x420.jpg 840w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 990px) 100vw, 990px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Also known as the Hide Out Cave, you will find this cave just northwest of Sedona. Local legend has it that this cave was once a hideout for assorted bootleggers and bandits. It’s accessible from any of the town’s high vantage points.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 1932 a movie titled </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Robbers’ Roost</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> was filmed close to the city. No one has unarguably verified whether or not part of it was shot here at this popular off-the-beaten-path cave. It certainly provides visitors with exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding area and thus would make a great hideaway. The hiking trail to the renowned roost is less than one mile out and back but it is rocky and steep so watch your step if you choose to explore this cave.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lava River Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16792" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2-wiki.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2-wiki.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2-wiki-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2-wiki-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2-wiki-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Travel to Flagstaff to the well-known Coconino National Forest. For it is there you can explore the long lava tube known as the Lava River Cave. It was formed by a large volcanic eruption about 700,000 years ago.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you want to cool off, the best time to visit is in the summer. The caves are, on average, only 40 degrees Fahrenheit and you might even spot a bit of ice. Even in the summer, you should take thick clothing, because the cave and its connected caverns can actually drop to under 30 degrees.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You’ll have to do your homework before entering though since it is a “self-guided trip.” Another reason to visit in the warmer months is that the roads can be shut down in the winter. In fact, in the winter the more athletic visitors can actually ski into this cave when there’s enough snow. So check on road conditions if you’re interested. Admission is free.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Colossal Cave Mountain Park  </span></h2>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The colossal cave system called Colossal Cave is conveniently situated 22 miles out of Tucson. More specifically, it’s located in a beautiful, 2,400-acre mountain park. It includes some of the area’s best caves.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can learn about the cave’s interesting geological composition, history, and legends by taking the popular half-mile guided tour. One of the most popular tours takes less than one hour.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Walking down almost 400 steps here will make you seem as if you’re on a journey to the center of the earth. The tours are offered daily and the price charged depends on your choice of tour. The classic cave tour is family-friendly and no extra equipment is required.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The most challenging is the three-and-a-half-mile tour is the most in-depth and rigorous. Be warned, you will get dirty, trekking through small passageways, pitch-black tunnels, and tight spaces. Schedule your visit at the right time and watch hundreds of bats fly from these caves after sunset. Admission is free.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Grand Canyon Caverns</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-16912" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-1024x770.jpg" alt="" width="696" height="523" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-1024x770.jpg 1024w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-300x226.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-768x577.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-696x523.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-1068x803.jpg 1068w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-559x420.jpg 559w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/The-Grand-Canyon-Caverns.jpg 1080w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will find this cave in the Peach Springs area unsurprisingly close to the Grand Canyon. Formally discovered in 1927, this now-protected cavern system has limestone walls that are reported to be “geologically identical” to the cliffs of the famous canyon. It is the largest dry cavern in the world.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In order to reach this admittedly eerie cave system, you must ride an elevator 21 floors, between 200 and 300 feet. Upon arrival, you have a choice between four different walking tours of different difficulty levels. An advanced tour will take you deeper into less visited areas of the cavern system and involves equipment.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The beginner tour is family-friendly and fine for all interested parties. It’s just a comparatively short walk that focuses on the larger sections of the system. If you are visiting the Grand Canyon and have additional time, a visit to these caverns will add even more adventure to your vacation. Fees vary according to your tour choices.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Peppersauce Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16913" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-3.jpg" alt="" width="735" height="441" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-3.jpg 735w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-3-300x180.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-3-696x418.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/1-3-700x420.jpg 700w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 735px) 100vw, 735px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Peppersauce Cave, less than 10 miles from Tuscon in Oracle, is actually a system of limestone caves. Specifically located in the Coronado National Forest, it can only be reached via dirt roads that are reportedly poorly maintained. While there is a roadside sign directing you to the official entrance, there are no tours offered.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite featuring its own lake, the cave system remains in a primitive state. There are no visitor facilities either. You must squeeze through a tight opening in order to get inside.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The rocks here are generally wet and slippery so along with the required headlamps (preferably on helmets), experts strongly recommend visitors wear non-slip shoes too. Knee and elbow pads aren’t a bad idea either. Do not visit if rain is in the forecast as the water levels here can rise dangerously. The “Big Room” and “The Rabbit Hole” are popular places if you prefer assistance in accessing parts of this system. Admission is free. </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Wave Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-16796 aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/7-Pinterest-Reddit.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="600" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/7-Pinterest-Reddit.jpg 450w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/7-Pinterest-Reddit-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/7-Pinterest-Reddit-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Journey to Gold Canyon to visit the Wave Cave. It&#8217;s probably the only place in the state where you can go surfing in the desert. Here you must first hike through the striking Superstition Mountains to a distinctive rock formation that looks like a wave coming out of a cave.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The hike is three miles round trip and rated as difficult due in part to the 860+-foot elevation gain. The final climb to this cave is considered strenuous and you’ll have to use your hands. The good news is that the cave is big enough to fit a number of hikers seeking relief from the infamous Arizona Sun.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Watch your step on your hike down because there’s a lot of loose gravel and the slope is somewhat steep as well. Do not attempt this pleasant albeit challenging trek on the hottest summer days. There is a $15.00 fee for parking.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Onyx Cave  </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16797" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/8-flickr.jpg" alt="" width="674" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/8-flickr.jpg 674w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/8-flickr-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/8-flickr-561x420.jpg 561w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/8-flickr-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/8-flickr-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 674px) 100vw, 674px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Head for the rugged Santa Rita Mountains and the Coronado National Forest to explore the limestone maze of rooms and passageways known as Onyx Cave. Various geological pressures slowly cracked the aged limestone here. Water rushed through the cracks, the cracks grew larger, and eventually resulted in this well-known cave.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The cave was declared an official National Natural Landmark in 1974 and fenced off to keep it safe from damage and vandalism. Today, after restorative efforts, it is back to its original condition. While it is reportedly challenging to reach, it is also possible to have the whole place all to yourself for several hours.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Now owned by Escabrosa Grotto, Inc., all visitors must make reservations for a visit and gate key at least two weeks ahead of time. Once you’ve done that, you are all set to explore this cave system unencumbered by too many other visitors.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Wind Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16798" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/9-1.jpg" alt="" width="674" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/9-1.jpg 674w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/9-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/9-1-561x420.jpg 561w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/9-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/9-1-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 674px) 100vw, 674px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of the most popular hikes in Mesa is the trek to Wind Cave. It is three miles in total and includes an elevation gain of almost 800 feet. It should take you no more than a total of two hours.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The terrain here is fairly dominated by palo verde and desert cacti. In fact, it is often comparatively dense with Saguaros. If you hike up there early enough, you’ll be shaded from the sun the entire time.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Once you arrive at the comparatively shallow cave you will be rewarded with not only cooling shade but a memorable view too. The view of downtown Phoenix and other sections of the valley will surprise you. Don’t be in a rush to hike back down though as the trail’s totally exposed to the Arizona sun in the afternoon.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Parking is limited so get here early. The trailhead is well-marked and has restrooms too. You must buy a day pass for $7.00.     </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Keyhole Cave</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-16801 aligncenter" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/12-DeviantArt.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="600" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/12-DeviantArt.jpg 450w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/12-DeviantArt-225x300.jpg 225w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/12-DeviantArt-315x420.jpg 315w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Another required Sedona stop for spelunkers and hikers curious about caves is the Keyhole Cave. You’ll take the moderately-trafficked Sugarloaf Trail to reach this cave. It&#8217;s a 2+-mile out-and-back hiking trail that’s open year-round.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You can even bring your dog if you keep him on a leash. Be sure to get here early though because the parking is limited and street parking is not allowed. From the Sugarloaf Trailhead, you’ll actually be able to see the cave in the distance.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">See that huge gaping opening in the mountainside? That’s it! The best time to visit this cave is whenever there is no snow. Otherwise, the hike will not only be steep but will be quite slick too.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Don’t try this hike immediately after a good rainfall either for similar reasons. Remember that much of this hike is in a wash. So if there&#8217;s a good chance of rain, just stay home and don’t risk being caught in a flash flood.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Coronado Cave  </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16790" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/4-wiki-Coronado_Cave_Entrance-and-feat.jpg" alt="caves" width="748" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/4-wiki-Coronado_Cave_Entrance-and-feat.jpg 748w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/4-wiki-Coronado_Cave_Entrance-and-feat-300x203.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/4-wiki-Coronado_Cave_Entrance-and-feat-696x470.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/4-wiki-Coronado_Cave_Entrance-and-feat-622x420.jpg 622w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This cave in Hereford close to the Arizona-Mexico border is actually a subject of much debate amongst hardcore spelunkers. Some argue that it is a large cave with a number of rooms, and others think it is a comparatively small cave. Admission is free but you need to get a free permit at the official visitor center.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The fact is that the cave is as wide as 70 feet in some sections and almost 600 feet long. Depending on your size, you may have to do some crawling in order to get from one section to another. The hike here can be a bit challenging for some since it includes a 500-foot ascent within the first half-mile.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Veteran visitors claim this is the best cave in the entire state for spelunking due in part to its reputed “mysterious aura.” While it is an official part of the popular Coronado National Memorial Park, no state-run guided tours are offered. Admission is free.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Cave of the Bells</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16804" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/15-flickr-1.jpg" alt="caves" width="736" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/15-flickr-1.jpg 736w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/15-flickr-1-300x206.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/15-flickr-1-218x150.jpg 218w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/15-flickr-1-696x478.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/15-flickr-1-612x420.jpg 612w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/15-flickr-1-100x70.jpg 100w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 736px) 100vw, 736px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This cave, nestled in Coronado National Forest’s striking Sawmill Canyon in Patagonia, provides perhaps people with the state’s most fun spelunking experience. You have to hike for four miles up a dirt road to reach this place. If you’re not feeling athletic, drive a high-clearance or 4WD there.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Believe it or not, the inside of the cave is actually warm. There’s also a permanent lake not too far from the cave entrance. This underground lake is roughly 263 feet below the surface. The official lake tunnel entry leads to this well-known underground lake.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Strangely, the deeper you hike, the warmer the temperature of both the air and the lake. Experts say this happens because there is actually some heat source under the surface of the lake. Be aware that, just like Onyx Cave, the entrance to this <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/these-awesome-underground-cities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cave</a> is gated and locked.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Due to this cave’s extremely delicate environment, travelers must contact the Coronado National Forest Supervisor’s office, make reservations, and leave a deposit of $100.00 to get the keys. When the gate keys are returned, the deposit is refunded.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Most travelers know that Arizona is “the Grand Canyon State.” If you’re in the US and planning to see this famous landmark but are wondering what else there is to do in the state of Arizona, read on, friends. Here are 26 outstanding places in Arizona.</span></p>
<h4><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">26 Outstanding Places In Arizona</span></i></h4>
<h3>1. Grand Canyon National Park</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15450" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/1-11.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/1-11.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/1-11-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/1-11-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/1-11-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We’ll forgo mentioning that your rovin’ writer hiked the entire canyon rim to rim with his father and note that this natural wonder is at the top of the “must-see” list. It’s also one of the country’s most popular national parks. For those not interested in hiking it, the Grand Canyon itself is one of the top day trips from the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. There are three distinct sections here – the North Rim, the South Rim, and Grand Canyon West. Each area has advantages depending on your interests.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sedona</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15451" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2-3.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="499" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2-3.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2-3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2-3-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2-3-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sedona is another one of the best places to see here. This outstanding city is well-known for its striking red rocks and other memorable scenery. Be sure to check out the Cathedral Rock and the Bell Rock, Airport Mesa, and Boynton Canyon too.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hikers will enjoy the Devil’s Bridge Trail, and if you’re visiting with kids during the summer, take a dip in one of the natural pools at popular nearby Slide Rock State Park. Be sure to see the Chapel of the Holy Cross and shopaholics shouldn’t miss the Tlaquepaque Arts &amp; Shopping Village either!</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Outstanding </span><a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/most-incredible-canyons/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Antelope Canyon</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is a natural wonder that comes complete with colorful, flowing sandstone walls and was created long ago by sand erosion and furious, fast-flowing flash flooding during monsoon season. This picturesque place is divided into two sections. They are called The Corkscrew and The Crack.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The best time to visit is either in the late afternoon or early morning when the views of the rugged red rock here are the most impressive. Being an official part of the Navajo Nation, travelers can only visit these stunning slot canyons as part of an official tour with a Navajo guide.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Horseshoe Bend</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15453" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/4-2.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/4-2.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/4-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/4-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/4-2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You will find Horseshoe Bend in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The property actually spans an area in both Arizona and Utah. Its popularity often translates to a significant increase in tourist interest and thus it can get a bit crowded.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Nevertheless, this U-shaped turn in the mighty Colorado River remains one of the outstanding places in Arizona to see, and travel experts note that you can still find a few quiet spots if you look. Shutterbugs are also encouraged to “bring a wide-angle lens.” Try a helicopter tour!</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Phoenix is the capital city of Arizona. It is also affectionately known as the “Valley of the Sun,” because it is sunny more than 300 days per year. Other than during what some call the brief “summer monsoons”, you will rarely see a rainy or cloudy day.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Temperatures can be as high as 110 degrees Fahrenheit. No worries though as there are lots of things to do here indoors and outdoors. Highlights here include Camelback Mountain, Piestewa Peak Park, the Desert Botanical Garden, the Musical Instrument Museum, the Heard Museum, and hot-air balloon tours. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Havasu Falls is nestled deep within the world-famous Grand Canyon. The colorful pink and orange rocks become even more impressive when you see them through the turquoise water that plunges 80 feet over the scarlet sandstone cliff into the beautiful blue swimming hole below it. It is arguably the most outstanding of the five individual waterfalls you can see on the nigh-famous Havasupai Indian Reservation.  Some refer to this waterfall as a “magical oasis” found in the center of the otherwise arid desert in this region.  </span></p>

Indeed, these formations span a space of many square miles.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Elevation in the monument range is as high as 6,500 feet above sea level. While you can see some of the property from Highway 89A, you really need a 4&#215;4 vehicle to explore most of this place. Of course, the lack of a tourism infrastructure also means most of this is unspoiled wilderness complete with buttes, mesas, and slot canyons.</span></p>

There are almost 2 million of them here. The park has two areas: one to the west of the city and the other to the east.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The west side was once named the Tucson Mountain Division and makes a workable day trip out of Phoenix. If you want to see it all, it’s best to stay somewhere in Tucson. In fact, from Tucson, you can see several attractions in one day.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Montezuma Castle National Monument is situated off the main road between Flagstaff and Phoenix, south of Sedona. This large cliff dwelling was erected and utilized by the native Sinagua people in the 1100s. It is a five-story structure with 20 rooms. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Some travel writers say that the impressive building looks less like a castle than it does an apartment building. At present, tourists are not permitted inside. You can get a good look at it though from the short, paved walk that surrounds it. While you’re in the area, visit Montezuma Well as well. It’s less than 10 miles away.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">When you think about visiting the “Old West”, you have a lot of choices. Tombstone, however, is an outstanding choice. Here the entire town recreates the historic gunfight at the O.K. Corral.     </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stroll down dusty E. Allen Street beneath the glaring sun, as gunslingers tip their hats to ladies and a horse-drawn coach leaves the Wells Fargo Stagecoach depot. All at once, the locals scramble for cover. A gunfighter strides down the street, and, well, the end might be a wee bit cheesy but it’s fun. Now head for the silver mine and the Tombstone Courthouse History Museum. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you need a break from Arizona’s tourist stops, this is an outstanding place to visit. It is a stunning, lesser-known gem! It is nestled in a rather remote section of northeastern Arizona on Indigenous land.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Drive around the rim and use a pullout to enjoy the scenery here. Take in the sight of this pretty palate of browns, golds, and reds and the verdant green of the canyon floor. To get the most out of your visit, hire a local guide so you have access to the entire canyon. The visitor center provides a list of guides to all interested travelers.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The city of Williams is also located on Route 66. It includes a number of old buildings and the Route 66 Gas Station Museum. If you have time, take the lovely scenic train ride to the Grand Canyon on the popular Grand Canyon Railway. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Visit Bearizona Wildlife Park. It’s a great wildlife and safari park focused on state wildlife. Here the animals roam free and travelers remain in their vehicles as they drive through the place. </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Sunset Crater Volcano And Wupatki National Monuments</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15469" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/19-1.jpg" alt="" width="753" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/19-1.jpg 753w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/19-1-300x197.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/19-1-696x458.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/19-1-639x420.jpg 639w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/19-1-741x486.jpg 741w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While in the Flagstaff area, consider these two outstanding places too. The popular Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument focuses on a single cinder cone dormant volcano that erupted less than 1,000 years ago. Hike the easy, scenic Lava Flow Trail right through the Bonito Lava Flow.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There’s a loop road that connects the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument to the neighboring Wupatki National Monument. It was the largest, highest, and most influential pueblo less than 800 years ago. There’s no shade, so visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Petrified Forest National Park</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15470" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/20-1.jpg" alt="" width="928" height="495" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/20-1.jpg 928w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/20-1-300x160.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/20-1-768x410.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/20-1-696x371.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/20-1-787x420.jpg 787w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 928px) 100vw, 928px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This unusual national park found between Highway 180 and Highway 40 is perhaps best known for its intricate rock formations and 200-million-year-old petrified tree trunks, petroglyphs, and fossils. It’s a great place to hike and explore. Veteran visitors recommend the Blue Mesa Trail. The Painted Desert Rim Trail is another favorite since it is scenic and not difficult to complete. Visit the interesting and educational Rainbow Forest Museum and learn about the area’s natural history.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Navajo National Monument</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-15471 size-full" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/21-wiki.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/21-wiki.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/21-wiki-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/21-wiki-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/21-wiki-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here you can see a trio of the state’s best-preserved cliff dwellings. The easiest way to see this outstanding place is to just hike the official self-guided Sandal Trail. It’s a paved, 1.3-mile, out-and-back trail that leads to an overlook where you can get a great view of the rugged Betatakin cliff dwelling roughly a quarter of a mile away. There’s also a challenging backcountry hike to the Keet Siel dwelling that actually requires attending a class.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Lower Salt River And Wild Horses</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15472" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/22-1.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/22-1.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/22-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/22-1-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/22-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/22-1-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The calm Lower Salt River winds through the Tonto National Forest. Explore this scenic desert oasis of cacti-dotted scarlet cliffs via boat. While the entire Salt River is 200 miles in length, the Lower Salt River is the best for both kayaking and casual river trips.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The big draw here though is the wild mustangs. The little herds come to the river to drink. You might even be lucky enough to see them cross the river.  </span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Apache Trail</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15473" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/23-1.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/23-1.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/23-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/23-1-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/23-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/23-1-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While visiting the Phoenix area, don’t forget to check out the Apache Trail located less than 20 miles out of the city. You’ll get a real feel for the wild west and old Phoenix at the same time. The water reservoirs here provide water for a major portion of the population.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You’ll also see local flora and wee spit communities complete with hot dive bars. The trail itself is less than 40 miles in total and features plenty of scenic lookouts. Be sure to check out Goldfield ghost town, Superstition Mountain, and Tortilla Flat too.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lake Havasu</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15474" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/24-1.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="497" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/24-1.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/24-1-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/24-1-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/24-1-635x420.jpg 635w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lovely Lake Havasu is reputed to be “the best party lake” in the country. While this is one of the outstanding places for spring break, it is also a great spot for visitors of all ages. The area is also the home of the state’s second-most visited tourist attraction, the famous London Bridge! Other activities offered here include biking and hiking through the popular SARA park, boating, fishing, paddleboarding, swimming, and relaxing on the beach.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Oatman</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15475" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/25-1.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/25-1.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/25-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/25-1-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/25-1-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This unincorporated community is located along Route 66 between Kingman and Needles. This village was born in 1915 when a couple of people discovered gold worth more than 10 million dollars. It grew to include 3,500 residents and then became a ghost town when Interstate 40 was constructed and the gold mines closed. Today less than 50 people live here. Highlights include protected wandering burros, unique shops, and Oatman Hotel where movie stars Clark Gable and Carole Lombard honeymooned.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Seligman And Route 66</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-15476" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/26-wiki.jpg" alt="" width="751" height="501" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/26-wiki.jpg 751w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/26-wiki-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/26-wiki-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/26-wiki-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 751px) 100vw, 751px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Seligman is a small, colorful town known as the “Birthplace of Historic <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/27-top-usa-bucket-list-experiences/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Route 66</a>” and provides a great feel of what Route 66 used to be like thanks to its culture and buildings. Highlights here include the Copper Cart, a former gas station that now is a gift shop and hangout for real-life cowboys, the historic Seligman Sundries, Delgadillo’s Snow Cap, Westside Lilo’s Cafe, and, of course, the colorful Seligman sign as well.</span></p>

<p>The city of Sedona is located at the lower end of Oak Creek Canyon. More specifically, it is near the city of Flagstaff in the US state of Arizona. Here are the 15 best things to do when you visit the area.</p>
<h3>1. The Sedona Heritage Museum</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8281" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/1flick.jpg" alt="sedona" width="749" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/1flick.jpg 749w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/1flick-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/1flick-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/1flick-629x420.jpg 629w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 749px) 100vw, 749px" /></p>
<p>This museum centers on the mid-1870s when the first settlers arrived here. Supported by the local Historical Society, it’s found in the Jordan family home which harkens back to that era. The museum covers the early days when people farmed mainly for their own families and a single creek irrigated the entire area. It also focuses on the development and disappearance of the local fruit trade. Finally, visitors also get to learn about how Hollywood shot so many western movies there back in the old days.<br />

<h2>2. Devil’s Bridge Trail</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-8282 size-full" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/2-8.jpg" alt="sedona" width="630" height="851" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/2-8.jpg 630w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/2-8-222x300.jpg 222w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/2-8-311x420.jpg 311w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px" /></p>
<p>Devil’s Bridge is a remarkable natural sandstone arch. The hike to reach it is only a1.8-miles roundtrip hike. From the starting point, there is an elevation of only 400 feet.</p>
<p>The hike is neither steep. The trail is pretty good since it was originally meant to be for 4 x 4 vehicles. The base of the famous bridge is reported to be 50 feet high. The most difficult part of the hike is getting to the top but you&#8217;re rewarded with an incredible view.</p>

<h2>3. Sedona Stargazing</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8283" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/3flick.jpg" alt="sedona" width="748" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/3flick.jpg 748w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/3flick-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/3flick-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/3flick-628x420.jpg 628w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px" /></p>
<p>Arizona’s clear desert skies are exceptional for stargazing. The stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Arizona. Some travel bloggers think it is one of the best places in the entire country to stargaze.</p>
<p>You can sign up for a tour with an expert and use quality astronomical equipment too. You’ll learn about the stars and groups are small enough that everyone gets plenty of time to look through the telescopes. Book onto a tour whenever you wish as the skies are almost always clear.</p>

<h2>4. Camping In The Oak Creek Canyon</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8284" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/4-4.jpg" alt="sedona" width="887" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/4-4.jpg 887w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/4-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/4-4-768x433.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/4-4-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/4-4-745x420.jpg 745w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 887px) 100vw, 887px" /></p>
<p>The Oak Creek Canyon features six organized camping grounds. They all reportedly have excellent facilities, including grills and picnic tables. Some sites can be booked ahead of time while others remain first come first served.</p>
<p>There is a one-week limit on camping here. You can go fishing in the creek or go hiking in the canyon. It’s a family-friendly place too!</p>

<h2>5. The Palatki UNESCO World Heritage Site</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8285" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/5-4.jpg" alt="sedona" width="753" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/5-4.jpg 753w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/5-4-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/5-4-696x462.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/5-4-633x420.jpg 633w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px" /></p>
<p>Palatki is an official UNESCO World Heritage Site situated in Coconino Forest near Sedona. The word ‘’Palatki’’ is Hopi for “red house.” The Sinagua people once lived in this region.</p>
<p>No one is certain if they died out or left. Attacks from outsiders and drought are both current theories. The cliff homes found here in Red Rock County were inhabited roughly between 1150 and 1350.</p>
<p>The rock art here is another one of the site’s highlights. It is run by the Arizona Natural History Association. It is kept open all year.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2>6. The Verde Valley Wine Trail</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8286" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/6flick.jpg" alt="sedona" width="890" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/6flick.jpg 890w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/6flick-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/6flick-768x431.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/6flick-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/6flick-748x420.jpg 748w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px" /></p>
<p>People don’t often think about Arizona when it comes to the subject of winemaking. The Verde Valley Wine Trail will change that for anyone who hikes it. Mind you, you may need a designated driver.</p>
<p>Indeed, if you hike the entire trail you will be visiting a total of five wineries and six tasting rooms. This trail takes you through not only Sedona but additional towns in the valley as well. Veteran visitors confirm that you will actually be able to taste the difference between the broad variety of wines you will be tasting too.</p>
<h2>7. The Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8287" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/7flick.jpg" alt="sedona" width="666" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/7flick.jpg 666w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/7flick-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/7flick-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/7flick-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/7flick-559x420.jpg 559w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 666px) 100vw, 666px" /></p>
<p>Even if you’re not a shopaholic you still need to visit this popular arts and crafts village. You’ll find it near Oak Tree. The village has an interesting traditional Mexican style to it.</p>
<p>For nearly 50 years the famous Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village has been a local landmark. It was born of an idea to create a unique artistic community. Today it is a lot more than that.</p>
<p>See the work of the artisans here. A number of different products are offered here including art, jewelry, textiles, and weaving. Go ahead! Pick up a souvenir or two!</p>
<h2>8. The Slide Rock State Park</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-8288 size-full" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/8-5.jpg" alt="" width="772" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/8-5.jpg 772w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/8-5-300x194.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/8-5-768x497.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/8-5-696x451.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/8-5-648x420.jpg 648w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 772px) 100vw, 772px" /></p>
<p>You’ll find this state park just north of Sedona. It was once an actual family homestead. The Pendley family grew apples and kept livestock here.</p>
<p>An improved irrigation system had to be installed to keep the apple orchard thriving. In the 1930s cabins were constructed in order to host local visitors. In 1987 it became a state park.</p>
<p>The park is now run by both the Arizona State Parks and the Forest Service. More than 300 apple trees remain on the property. It has been used in different movies such as 1950’s Broken Arrow, 1953’s Gun Fury and 1954’s Drum Beat.</p>
<h2>9. The Airport Mesa</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-8289 size-full" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/9-4.jpg" alt="" width="630" height="504" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/9-4.jpg 630w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/9-4-300x240.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/9-4-525x420.jpg 525w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px" /></p>
<p>This hiking loop trail is one of the most beautiful trails in the entire region. Here you will be hiking at a height of approximately 4,500 feet. There are moments when you will be able to enjoy an impressive 360-degree panoramic view above several different landmarks, including Sedona’s signature red rocks.</p>
<p>You can park at the trail’s official starting point. If the parking lot there is full, don’t stress. There is another parking area a mile away that will reward your extra effort with some superb scenery on the way to the actual trail.</p>
<h2>10. The Boynton Canyon Trail</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8290" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/10-5.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/10-5.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/10-5-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/10-5-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/10-5-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>The six-mile Boynton Canyon Trail is dog-friendly. Your dog can make the hike with you provided he/she is on a leash. Keep your eyes open and don’t make too much noise and you never know what you’ll see.</p>
<p>You could spot lizards, gila monsters and numerous birds too. The terrain here is varied and includes forests and deserts. The early spans are best for picture taking. The best time to visit is when it’s warmer but be sure to take enough water even if there are shady spots on the way.</p>
<h2>11. The Cathedral Rock Trail</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8291" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/11-3.jpg" alt="" width="755" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/11-3.jpg 755w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/11-3-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/11-3-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/11-3-634x420.jpg 634w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 755px) 100vw, 755px" /></p>
<p>The Cathedral Rock Trail is less than one mile in length. Ah, but don’t let that fool you. It might be short but it sure isn’t for a newbie hiker.</p>
<p>The initial ascent is said to be pretty straightforward. The trail is even marked with basket cairns. When you reach a plateau stop to take in the wonderful view.</p>
<p>Shortly after that though you will have to make a decision. Do you keep hiking on the more difficult section or decide you have seen enough? Should you decide to go on, you should know your climb will be at roughly 45 degrees for nearly 40 feet.</p>
<p>If you are visiting when the weather is warm and dry the hand and foot hold will be good. If you’re visiting after it’s rained, beware of slippery conditions. While the view from the end of the trail is stunning, it’s not worth risking bodily injury.</p>
<h2>12. The Chapel of the Holy Cross</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8292" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/12wiki-2.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/12wiki-2.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/12wiki-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/12wiki-2-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/12wiki-2-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>This famous chapel is ensconced amidst a backdrop of huge red rocks so typical of this part of the state. It was created by one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s students, Marguerite Brunswig Staude, in 1956. Staude wanted to build something that would be a tribute to the Catholic Church.</p>
<p>She saw the scarlet rocks and knew this was the ideal location. The best time to visit is when the sun’s rays hit the stained-glass windows. You don’t need to be a Christian to be impressed by this place.</p>
<h2>13. The Amitabha Stupa &amp; Peace Park</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8293" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/13flic.jpg" alt="" width="666" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/13flic.jpg 666w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/13flic-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/13flic-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/13flic-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/13flic-559x420.jpg 559w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 666px) 100vw, 666px" /></p>
<p>Yes, Virginia, there is a Buddhist in Arizona . . . more than one apparently. Stupas like this one are like those located in Asia. Indeed, it is reminiscent of those constructed more than 2,500 years ago. Of course, this particular stupa is surrounded by verdant pines and smaller red spires.</p>
<p>It has been a popular tourist stop since 2004. This stupa is only 36 feet tall. You can visit any time between sunrise and sunset. Admission is free but donations are welcome.</p>
<h2>14. Balloon Expedition</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8294" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/14flic.jpg" alt="" width="750" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/14flic.jpg 750w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/14flic-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/14flic-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/14flic-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<p>Wake up before daybreak and soar above the Sedona landscape and surrounding area in a hot air balloon. Normally, six or seven passengers go up together. If you have a family that size you’ll be alone in the balloon in the quiet of dawn. Enjoy a real birds-eye view of all the different places you might already have seen or look down on the places you are planning to check out later.</p>
<h2>15. The Montezuma Castle National Monument</h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-8295" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/15-3.jpg" alt="" width="755" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/15-3.jpg 755w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/15-3-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/15-3-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/15-3-634x420.jpg 634w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 755px) 100vw, 755px" /></p>
<p>The Montezuma Castle National Monument can be found under an hour south of Sedona. The 20 rooms here were constructed of stone and mud. Oddly some online sources indicate that It was named in tribute to the legendary Aztec Emperor who reportedly was not even born when the buildings were erected.</p>
<p>(No doubt the original residents called it something else.) The Sinagua people resided here between the 1100s and 1400s. It is said to be the best-preserved place of its kind in the area. It is only a short <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/15-best-day-hikes-in-the-usa-for-your-bucket-list/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">hike</a> to get to the site.</p>

<p>Are you dreaming of seeing the American Southwest? If so, then, by all means, read on1 We’ve gathered a number of tips and insights to help you better explore the natural beauty and wide-open spaces of places such as Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. Here are the 14 epic adventures in the American Southwest.</p>
<h3>Jeep Tour, Arizona</h3>
<p>You never forget crawling slowly down a very steep trail known as the Devil’s Staircase in a jeep. The vehicles are made for crawling over the rocks. Some say it’s one of the best things to do in Sedona and it’s even family-friendly.</p>
<p>The most popular tour is the Broken Arrow tour. You’ll get a thrill as you go up and down the rock faces on the 4WD trail. Take in all the stunning scenery along the trail. Hop out every so often to experience the actual feel of the rugged, solid ground under your feet.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>Bright Angel Trail, Arizona</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6495" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-2.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="483" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-2.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-2-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-2-696x461.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/2-2-635x420.jpg 635w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>You really cannot go to the <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/top-25-tourist-attractions-in-the-usa/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Grand Canyon</a> and not go into the canyon itself. Sadly, experts report that the typical tourist visits the Grand Canyon for a stay of only 15 minutes. The most memorable and nigh epic would be hiking the entire Grand Canyon rim to rim.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, while your roving writer (and his father) have managed it, not everyone is up to that. Another option would be to hike down to the famed Phantom Ranch and back up again. For most, the best bet is to hike the popular Bright Angel Trail where you can choose how far you go into the canyon.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>Verde Canyon Railroad, Arizona</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6496" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ver3.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="486" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ver3.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ver3-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ver3-696x463.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ver3-631x420.jpg 631w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>One of Sedona’s great but lesser-known attractions, the Verde Canyon Railroad, is actually an excellent 40-mile journey through a century of culture, history, and dramatic desert scenery. Accessible only by train or on foot, the route runs along the Verde River and the entire riparian ecosystem complete with cottonwoods and high parenthetical sandstone cliffs. Ride in the open-air carriages for a better look of the scenery as a guide notes historical, geological and cultural insights. Veterans suggest purchasing a first-class ticket which includes comfortable seats, buffet food, a cash bar, and a nice champagne toast upon arrival.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>ATV adventures in the Sand Hollow State Park, Utah</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6498" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/atv4.jpg" alt="" width="730" height="487" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/atv4.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/atv4-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/atv4-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/atv4-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Picture yourself tearing over crimson sand dunes on a quad or ATV. It is a truly epic activity complete with stunning scenery. Sand Hollow State Park is well known for its sprawling 6,000 acres of OHV and ATV off-road trails that will take you up to 3,500 feet above sea level.</p>
<p>The various areas there are divided by stunning rock formations in the northern sections and includes a man-made lake at the southern edges. Additionally, you get to end the exciting, family-friendly day with an incredible sunset over the scarlet sand dunes.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>Angels Landing Hike, Utah</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6500" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/5-3.jpg" alt="" width="700" height="1050" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/5-3.jpg 700w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/5-3-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/5-3-683x1024.jpg 683w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/5-3-696x1044.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/5-3-280x420.jpg 280w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></p>
<p>Take the nigh legendary Angels Landing Hike through Zion National Park. It is undoubtedly the most adventurous activity available there. Beware though you may want to stop at Scout’s Landing if you have young children with you.</p>
<p>Hiking the entire trail is another question. After all, part of this hike requires you to hold on to a strong chain next to you so you don’t slip and fall a good 1,000 feet to your certain death. In order to reach the top of the peak, the final section has a chain to guide you along a significantly narrow trail to keep you safe from becoming a negative statistic.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>Horseback riding in famous Bryce Canyon, Utah</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6501" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/6-2.jpg" alt="" width="667" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/6-2.jpg 667w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/6-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/6-2-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/6-2-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/6-2-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px" /></p>
<p>For some visitors, horseback riding in the beautiful Bryce Canyon National Park is a highlight of their travels to the national parks in Utah. The activity includes a cowboy guide that comes complete with bad whiskey jokes and stirrups. You will ride down dusty trails past white, orange, and pink tent rocks of various sizes and shapes. Indeed these so-called fairy chimneys give the place a unique quality and if you head out at the right times you will catch some magnificent sunrises and sunsets too.</p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h3>Lower Antelope Canyon, Arizona</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-6502" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7-2.jpg" alt="" width="667" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7-2.jpg 667w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7-2-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7-2-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7-2-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px" /></p>
<p>While this list focuses on the Lower Antelope Canyon tour, there’s also an Upper Antelope Canyon tour. Indeed, Antelope Canyon is overall a noteworthy slot canyon of polished rock crevasses born of years of rushing water. Pay attention to how they change in the light seems to alter the colors, textures and even the shapes of the famous carved canyon walls.</p>
<p>Your Navajo guide can educate you on the rock formations and even demonstrate how the place was formed using a bottle of water and a pile of sand. It’s a family-friendly experience. Be sure to visit nearby Horseshoe Bend as well. It’s spectacular.</p>

<p>Monument Valley has a reportedly mesmerizing magnetism and spiritual energy. While self-guided tours are an option, if you want to see more than the view from John Ford Point or Mittens, you can see more with a Navajo guide.</p>
<p>A guide can show you things you would not otherwise see. They have permission to show you a Hogan as well as rock formations such as Wind’s Ear and Sun’s Eye. It provides you with a totally different perspective and you get to learn a bit about Native American culture to boot.</p>

<p>Sign on for a Jeep tour and go rock crawling in colorful Moab. Volunteer spotters are available to help newbies negotiate through this red, yellow, pink, and orange rock country. Rock Crawling in a Jeep is fun but involves some trust.</p>
<p>Jeeps are very versatile. They can climb rocks in different directions with the skill of a crab. Still, trust is tested when your vehicle has you practically leaning out almost low enough to kiss the dirt or laying back at an almost 90-degree angle. Along with the excitement are the stunning views you will witness while on your vehicular adventure.</p>

<p>This aptly named place is a large area that is nothing but white sand dunes. They look as if they go on forever. If you’re feeling adventurous&#8211;and isn’t that why you’re here?&#8211;then stop at the visitor center and rent sleds (or bring your own) and you will soon be sledding down these white sand mountains. Mind you, there is little if any shade and it does get quite hot there so be prepared prior to hitting those alabaster sand dunes!</p>
