There are many bizarre events that often make us stop and wonder. Most unusual events are easily explained once studied. There are moments, however, when even scientists pause prior to providing any proven specific answers as to how or why some things happen.

9. Mammatus Clouds

Mammatus clouds are also known as mammary clouds. These particular clouds actually have a certain cellular pattern of what some call “pouches” that hang underneath the cloud’s base. Typically speaking, they are found underneath cumulonimbus clouds that are heavy with rain.

They are quite often closely tied to severe weather conditions. They may appear both before and even after a storm. They often foretell the coming of a significant storm as well as storms that lead to tornadoes. Finally, they are strange because while most clouds are reported to form in rising air, these clouds form in sinking air.

8. The Heat Anomaly In The Pyramid Of Giza

Research teams have been examining the famous Great Pyramid Of Giza for a long time now. Also known as the Pyramid of Cheops or the Pyramid of Khufu it is officially the oldest of all seven of the world’s “ancient wonders.” Scientists discovered unusual heat signatures there that had no immediate explanation.

The Pyramids were scanned and the research team discovered that there were some limestone blocks that had a higher heat signature than the others. This particular anomaly was found on the pyramid’s eastern side at ground level. There was no immediate explanation for these heat anomalies.

One popular theory is that the difference in heat levels could mean there is some type of hidden chamber inside the pyramid that has yet to be found. It is uncertain as this goes to press if scientists will ever confirm this. Some claim in order to prove any theories one would have to actually enter the now famous hidden chamber.

7. Lake Hillier In Australia

Just off the south coast of Western Australia, Lake Hillier is the most famous of Australia’s weird “pink lakes.” It is situated on the largest of the Recherche Archipelago Islands, Middle Island. Separated from the Southern Ocean by a thin long shore, this lake is well-known for its bubble gum pink hue. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees and a firm rim of sand, the lake is 600 meters (over 656 yards) in length.

It is a saline lake and the only living thing in it are Dunaliella salina. These microorganisms cause the salt there to create a red-colored dye. This and the halophilic bacteria in the salt crust are currently believed to be the cause of the pink color. Nevertheless, there are things about the lake that still intrigue and surprise researchers.

6. Socotra Island, Yemen

How would you like to explore terrain that is reminiscent of some alien world? If so, then, by all means, you should visit Socotra Island. Situated not far off the coast of Yemen this particular place has been called by some “the most alien-looking” spot on the planet.

Others have referred to it as a “lost world.” These comments are due in part to the fact that the high temperatures and not uncommon drought conditions of the entire isle have actually led to the creation of roughly 800 rare species of fauna and flora. As this goes to press, approximately one-third of those species have yet to be found anywhere else on Earth.

5. Kelimutu, Indonesia

Mount Kelimutu is essentially a volcano. It is situated near the town of Moni which is located in the center of the island of Flores in Indonesia. More specifically, it is almost 50 kilometers to the east of Ende. It has a trio of volcanic crater lakes that actually change color independently of the others and at different times.

Researchers believe that the colors of these lakes change because of alterations in the status of the oxidation-reduction of each separate lake’s liquids. It also believed that the amount of various major elements like manganese and iron. The color changes are unpredictable. Some note that this is because they have yet to regularly monitor enough to come to an official determination.

4. Brain Injury Makes Man A Math Genius

A furniture sales representative, Jason Padgett was brutally attacked back in 2002. Today the Tacoma, Washington-based man views the world through a grand geometric lens. What was clearly a devastating brain injury appears to have somehow positively impacted his brain.

Now he sees everything in his personal world as some type of mathematical structure. Despite having at best a minimal interest in any academic subject, he somehow developed the mental talent to intuitively visualize physics concepts and complicated mathematical objects.

3. Stonehenge, UK

For centuries, archaeologists and historians have been intrigued by the prehistoric monument known as Stonehenge. Found in Wiltshire in Southern England, it includes a ring of about 100 huge standing stones. It is estimated that Neolithic builders needed roughly 1,500 years to construct it.

Each stone weighs about 25 tons. Each standing stone is around seven feet or 2.1meters wide and 4 meters or 13 feet tall The first bluestones are believed to have been raised sometime between 2400 and 2200 BC although they may have been there since 3000 BC.

2. Animal Rain

Not to be confused with purple rain, the beginnings of this strange phenomenon have reportedly changed over the years. The first example of this phenomenon dates back to some time in the first century AD. It was then that Pliny the Elder, a Roman naturalist, reports frogs and fish falling from the sky.

1. Tsingy de Bemaraha, Madagascar

The well-known Tsingy de Bemaraha is a popular national park situated in the Melaky Region in northwest Madagascar. It is highlighted by a pair of noteworthy geological formations. They’re known as the Little Tsingy and the Great Tsingy.

Tsingy translates to “where one cannot walk barefoot.” The park is the home of memorable landscapes and unique biodiversity. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Even today there are many incredible natural events and mind-blowing, mysterious sights for which the world’s scientists cannot offer any explanation. Most stunning events are actually quickly explained once researched. There are times though when even modern science is unable to provide any specific answers as to why or how something happens.

1. The Morning Glory Clouds

The aptly-named Morning Glory Clouds is a mesmerizing mystery. These particular clouds are tube-shaped and quite long. In fact, they can stretch across the sky for literally hundreds of miles.

These clouds are reported to be found mainly in the sky above Australia when they transition from their dry season to their wet season. The local aboriginals believe that the appearance of these clouds is an omen that foretells an increase in the bird population.

Other than that theory, scientists have yet to conclusively prove exactly how they are formed.

2. Star Jelly

The strange gelatinous substance pictured here has confused the world’s scientists for years. It is a weird translucent material that is generally found on trees and grass.

Scientists have been studying it but they have yet to conclude what it actually is. There are some scientists that have a theory that this substance is the result of frog eggs expanding after being exposed to too much moisture but as they eventually discovered the gelatin does not have any animal or even plant DNA in it.

3. The Floating City

The date was April 21, 2017. The location was Jieyang, China. It was here that dozens of Chinese were stunned as they stared into the sky at what looked like an actual “floating city” high in the sky over their heads.

Six years earlier, the same floating cities were officially recorded in five different places across the country. There is one popular theory for this phenomenon. During the rare occurrence called Fata Morgana light goes through heat waves and creates a duplicating effect. Scientists have yet to officially confirm this at press time.

4. Tabby’s Star

This star was named after the person who discovered it, Tabetha Boyajian. Tabby’s Star is but one of the 150,000 stars that can be seen with the Kepler telescope. What makes this particular star unique is that the light from it often dulls by as much as 20 percent.

This is a significantly higher percentage than any other star on record. Thus far, scientists only have theories for why this is. Theories include alien life, a significant buildup of debris and dust, and the passing of planets.

5. Spider Rain

This strange occurrence also still has scientists baffled. For no discernible reason, flightless creatures will simply rain down from the sky. This has thus far included worms, frogs, and spiders.

At present the most popular theory researchers have come up with is that tornadoes or waterspouts actually lift and relocate literally thousands of these various creatures and then drop or shower them down on any and all nearby cities. These events have yet to be witnessed in person by any number of scientists, though.

6. A Bloody Sky

It was the month of April 2016. It was then that the residents of Chalchuapa, El Salvador, were witness to a blood red sky over them. It lasted for only a few brief minutes before then transforming into a pinkish color.

A number of deeply religious locals took it to be an omen that signified the end of the world. One popular theory is that it may have been a reflection of stubble fires that had been started by the local sugarcane farmers. Nevertheless, to this day no one really is certain.

7. The Great Attractor

Travel back through the mists of time with us to a decade called the (19) the 70s. It was then that NASA (the National Aeronautics and Space Administration) began studying an unusual force between 150 and 250 million light years away from our planet. This force was drawing the entire Milky Way galaxy and neighboring galaxies towards it. Scientists christened this force “The Great Attractor.” They have yet to explain what causes this attraction or how it began.

8. The Taos Hum

Taos is a town in the well-known Sangre de Cristo Mountains in north-central New Mexico in the US. It is a popular liberal arts community as well as the home of some celebrities. It is also famous for a phenomenon known as the “Taos Hum.”

This unique noise is a sound that can actually be heard by roughly two percent of the population of Taos. Oddly, every local describes the sound differently. While even special audio recording equipment has not yet been able to actually record it, the locals who have heard it still insist it is real.

9. The Tunguska Event

The date is June 30, 1908. It was at a spot close to the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Siberia, that a huge fireball blew up just six kilometers above the planet’s surface. The resulting shockwave cleared the forests for miles around and an unknown number of animals were killed as well. Many researchers think the explosion was a small asteroid that exploded prior to striking the ground. Unfortunately, because there was no resulting crater, there was nothing for the scientists to analyze.

10. Japanese Atlantis

Beneath the waves of Yonaguni Jima, Japan, there are gigantic stones that look like the Aztec or Egyptian pyramids. Scientists have determined that these large rocks have been under the sea for approximately 2,000 years. Researchers believe that these rock shapes are the remnants of an ancient civilization that is almost 5,000 years old. They believe that these rocks fell into the water as a result of some unknown seismic event. While this theory is accepted, it has yet to be proven.
