While it isn’t the widest or the highest, it is still designated the largest based on its combined height of 108 meters (354 feet) and width of 1,708 meters (5,604 feet). It is more than twice as wide as Niagara Falls and almost twice as high. If you stand too close, your body will actually tremble.

Angel Falls, Venezuela

Angel Falls is officially named after Jimmie Angel, the first US pilot to fly over these falls. Like all the other waterfalls here, it is high in both physical height and related death rates. Gullfoss Falls, Iceland

Gullfoss is Icelandic for “Golden Falls.” Nestled in the canyon of the Hvítá River, it is reported to be very popular with tourists and day trippers alike. Along with the geysers of Haukadalur and Þingvellir, it is part of the popular Golden Circle attraction.  

Thus, it is a part of the majority of tours in Iceland. Gullfoss Falls is also an official UNESCO World Heritage Site more famous for its beauty than its deadliness. Hannoki-no-taki, Japan

Hannoki-no-taki, in the Toyama region, is notorious in Japan. Some travel writers compare it to Aun no-no-Taki. At a height of 497 meters high (or 1,640 feet), it is considered by many to not only be one of Japan’s highest waterfalls, but also one of the most dangerous.

Arguably the most famous falls in the world, this trio of thunderous, wide cascades are situated in New York State near Buffalo and crash across the US border into the country of Canada. Shomyo-Daki, Japan 

The previously mentioned Shomyo-Daki, like its neighbor Hannoki-no-taki, can be found in the town of Tateyama, in the Toyama Prefecture. It is officially the highest waterfall in Japan. It is 350 meters high (or 1,148 feet). These falls actually have four separate stages.

The first is70 meters high. The second is 58 meters. The third is 96 meters and the final is 126 meters. The best time to visit is between early and mid-summer. That’s when the snow up in the Tateyama Mountains melts. The lake at the very bottom is over 6 meters deep.

Langfossen Falls, Norway

Travel to the municipality of Etne. For it is here that you will find Langfossen Falls. In English, the name means “Long Falls.”  

It is the 16th highest permanent waterfall in Europe as the water drops down a good 600 meters to the fjord below. Hogenakkal Falls is nestled along the Kaveri River in the state of Tamil Nadu at an elevation of 700 meters (or 2.300 feet). The most well-known of five different waterfalls, Havasu Falls may be one of the most popular sights in Arizona’s world-famous Grand Canyon, but it can also be quite dangerous.
