<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Travel lovers know that booking a trip to anywhere new can be a real adventure. Maybe it’s a romantic honeymoon to some bucket list hot spot. Maybe it’s a first-time rendezvous with that special Facebook friend in Thailand. One way or another, you’re about to experience something new.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ah, but how would you like to vacation aboard the first space hotel? Well, “take your protein pills and put your helmet on,” dear ready. It’s time to pack your bags and get ready for the very first hotel in outer space! Science fiction will soon be science fact!  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">A Real “Space Oddity” </span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_10263" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10263" style="width: 889px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-10263" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2-1.jpg" alt="" width="889" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2-1.jpg 889w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2-1-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2-1-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2-1-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 889px) 100vw, 889px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10263" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of the Gateway Foundation</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The private American aerospace company The Gateway foundation recently revealed their updated designs for what they have christened the Von Braun Space Station. This spaceport was inspired by technology previously used to build the famous ISS or International Space Station. Unlike its predecessor the ISS, this vessel will be equipped with artificial gravity, enabling both long-term habitations by staff and visiting by travelers much more comfortable.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The actual structure will be made up of a pair of “concentric structural rings” joined together by spokes. The inner ring will consist of 24 large modules. The Gateway will be used for both space exploration and the meeting and interaction of both humans and extraterrestrials.  </span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Von Braun Space Station</span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_10264" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10264" style="width: 889px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-10264" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/3.jpg" alt="" width="889" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/3.jpg 889w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/3-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/3-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/3-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/3-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 889px) 100vw, 889px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10264" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of the Gateway Foundation</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On the company’s official website, they explain that the rotating Von Braun Space Station will “accommodate both national space agencies conducting low gravity research and space tourists who want to experience life on a large space station with the comfort of low gravity and the feel of a nice hotel.” </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The station’s artificial gravity will be generated by the rotation of the structure’s 190-meter-diameter wheel resulting in a force much like what is felt on the moon. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This Lunar Gravity Area will be fitted with sleeping accommodations and other support functions much like a hotel.  </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tim Alatorre, the station’s senior design architect, once told Dezeen magazine that the space hotel was going to be “another option people will pick for their vacation, just like going on a cruise or going to Disney World.”</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">A Space Odyssey</span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_10265" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10265" style="width: 890px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-10265" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/4.png" alt="" width="890" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/4.png 890w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/4-300x169.png 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/4-768x431.png 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/4-696x391.png 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/4-748x420.png 748w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10265" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of the Gateway Foundation</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This section will have a stylish interior. Alatorre elaborated: &#8220;In the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stanley Kubrick&#8217;s Space Station 5 is a sterile, white, museum-like hotel. He notes: “While it made for a clearly futuristic feeling in the movie, in reality, it wasn&#8217;t a very inviting space. As humans, we innately connect to natural materials and colors.&#8221;</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Space Hotel At The End Of The Universe</span></h2>
<figure id="attachment_10266" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-10266" style="width: 899px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-full wp-image-10266" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/5.png" alt="space" width="899" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/5.png 899w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/5-300x167.png 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/5-768x427.png 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/5-696x387.png 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/5-755x420.png 755w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 899px) 100vw, 899px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-10266" class="wp-caption-text">Image courtesy of the Gateway Foundation</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Again he references the cruise ship metaphor speaking of many of the amenities that will be available. He notes the hotel will also include a gymnasium, a casino, and “many of the [other] things you can see on cruise ships: restaurants, bars, <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/best-live-music-venues-in-london-england/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">musical concerts</a>, movie screenings, and educational seminars.” There will also be luxurious bedrooms and efficiencies all decorated with natural fabrics and materials. The lighting and paint used are also warm-colored to provide people with a comfortable experience.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Not all the modules will be for hotel guests. Alatorre also confirmed that some of the pods will be rented to businesses and government agencies and even sold as private residences. Once complete, the Von Braun Station will be able to handle 400 people. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Additionally, they are planning to accommodate 100 tourists each week. Alatorre concluded that the Gateway Foundation is working towards having the space hotel fully operational by the year 2025. By then, they hope to provide guests with the opportunity to tour intergalactic destinations as well.</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Gateway Foundation Wants You</span></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Gateway Foundation hopes to have the entire spaceport completed in one year’s time. According to their <a href="https://gatewayspaceport.com/the-foundation/membership/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>, that means finding additional ways to raise revenue to fund immediate construction. Therefore, they are seeking out individuals to further flesh out a solid “base of passionate and active members.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">They are looking for people who “are willing to promote [these] efforts and advocate to their government officials” when and if necessary by “sending emails, signing petitions, and participating in awareness campaigns across multiple social media platforms.” The company notes that in order to “build The Gateway and Von Braun Stations in space, we must first build The Gateway Foundation on Earth.”</span></p>
