<p>Even if you’re allergic, flowers are still both colorful and beautiful. In fact, you probably send people flowers for a lot of different occasions such as Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or birthdays. (Face it, some of you even buy flowers in order to offer an apology.) While most flowers sent as gifts are common, nature has given the world some unusual and unique flowers as well, Here are 10 of them.</p>
<h4>10. The Snake’s Head Fritillary</h4>
<p>The famous Snake’s Head Fritillary are unusual wildflowers. Also known as the leper lily, this flower has pretty checkered petals that some say resemble snakeskin. It also has a few other names including the chess flower, the frog-cup, the guinea flower, and the guinea-hen flower. Its more scientific name, Fritillaria, originates from “fritillus” a Latin word. In English means “a dice box.” It is a reference to the trademark checkered patterns that can be seen on this flower’s petals.</p>

<h3>9. The Snapdragon And The Skull</h3>
<p><img decoding="async" width="720" height="540" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5311" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Snap-Dragon-and-the-Skull.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Snap-Dragon-and-the-Skull.jpg 720w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Snap-Dragon-and-the-Skull-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Snap-Dragon-and-the-Skull-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Snap-Dragon-and-the-Skull-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Snap-Dragon-and-the-Skull-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Snap-Dragon-and-the-Skull-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>This special plant also called the “Dragon Flower,” resembles a dragon’s head. If you hold and squeeze one of these flowers it will appear as if the “dragon” is opening and closing its mouth. Stranger still, after this flower dies, it leaves behind a seed pod that resembles a small skull.</p>
<p>There are those who claim this unusual flower actually has some kind of supernatural powers too. Furthermore, there are even those who used to claim that any garden containing this particular plant was actually cursed by witchcraft. On the other hand, some folks claim that if you eat this flower that it will aid in restoring your beauty and your youthfulness.</p>

<h3>8. The Sea Poison Tree</h3>
<p><img decoding="async" width="730" height="429" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5312" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Barringtonia-Asiatica.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Barringtonia-Asiatica.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Barringtonia-Asiatica-300x176.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Barringtonia-Asiatica-696x409.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Barringtonia-Asiatica-715x420.jpg 715w" sizes="(max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>The Sea Poison Tree is also known as Barringtonia Asiatica. When the flowers from this plant are in full bloom they are said by some to look a lot like a typical cheerleader’s pom-pom. If you are interested in seeing these unusual flowers up close you will have to visit spots off the coasts of the Pacific or <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/12-most-dangerous-sea-creatures-divers-should-know/">Indian Ocean</a>s. SUch creatures as moths and bats are drawn to these particular flowers because of what some describe as their signature “sweet sickly” scent.</p>

<h3>7. The Common Sundew</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="725" height="483" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5313" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Common-Sundew.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Common-Sundew.jpg 725w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Common-Sundew-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Common-Sundew-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Common-Sundew-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px" /></p>
<p>Some call it the Round-Leaved Sundew. Unlike most other flowers, this one is known for its sticky hairs and glands instead of normal petals. The adhesive-like substance on the hairs gleams in the sunlight and draws insects to it. Darwin himself authored nearly 300 pages on this unique plant. He discussed in some detail all the various experiments he once conducted on the flower.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>6. The Lithops Weberi</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="730" height="487" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5315" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lithops-Weberi.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lithops-Weberi.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lithops-Weberi-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lithops-Weberi-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lithops-Weberi-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Native to<a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/10-of-the-cheapest-hotels-in-the-world/"> South Africa</a>, the unusual Lithops Weberi gets its moniker from the ancient Greek language. They are both unusual and apparently almost intelligent. They camouflage themselves as pebbles and rocks and are therefore a lot less likely to be consumed by any animals.</p>
<p>The Lithops Weberi sits quite low to the ground. The plants have one or more bulbous leaves. The leaves have a translucent exterior which allows sunlight to more easily make contact with the interior of the plant. In this way, photosynthesis is more easily facilitated. Yellow and white flowers bloom when any new leaves grow.</p>

<h3>5. The Lady’s Slipper Orchid</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="720" height="540" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5316" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lady’s-Slipper-Orchid.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lady’s-Slipper-Orchid.jpg 720w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lady’s-Slipper-Orchid-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lady’s-Slipper-Orchid-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lady’s-Slipper-Orchid-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lady’s-Slipper-Orchid-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Lady’s-Slipper-Orchid-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>The Lady’s Slipper Orchid is reported to be so unusual that when it is displayed at the annual Chelsea Flower Show in <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/best-live-music-venues-in-london-england/">London</a>, England it always has a personal bodyguard. Indeed, this special flower is also reported to be one of the most unique flowers that anyone can see in the entire United Kingdom. It was named the “lady’s slipper” because it has yellow petals that resemble small shoes or clogs.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>4. The Pitcher Plant</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="730" height="485" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5318" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Nepenthes-spectabilis-X-ventricosa.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Nepenthes-spectabilis-X-ventricosa.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Nepenthes-spectabilis-X-ventricosa-300x199.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Nepenthes-spectabilis-X-ventricosa-696x462.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Nepenthes-spectabilis-X-ventricosa-632x420.jpg 632w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Some people refer to this plant as the “monkey cup.” Call it a “pitcher” or a “cup”, either way, its appearance makes it obvious that either tag is apropos. It certainly is a natural “water bottle” in that even in the midst of a hot tropical climate, it is quite capable of holding water. Unfortunately for small birds, rodents and insects, this particular plant can be very dangerous. It can capture, hold and even dissolve any poor creature that is drawn too near.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>3. The Corpse Flower</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="730" height="487" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5319" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Corpse-Flower-Rafflesia-arnoldii.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Corpse-Flower-Rafflesia-arnoldii.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Corpse-Flower-Rafflesia-arnoldii-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Corpse-Flower-Rafflesia-arnoldii-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Corpse-Flower-Rafflesia-arnoldii-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>This famous flower is endemic to Sumatra. The corpse flower or corpse plant has the largest recorded unbranched bloom on the planet. Unfortunately, it is thus named because it has the odor of a corpse, an animal carcass or other rotten flesh. Still, the flower width measures in at an amazing three feet. Also known as the carrion flower, it has no visible leaves or stems and is noted to be a fast-growing plant as well.</p>
<p><b>(Continued on next page)</b></p>
<h3>2. The Night Blooming Cereus</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="730" height="488" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5320" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Night-blooming-cereus.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Night-blooming-cereus.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Night-blooming-cereus-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Night-blooming-cereus-696x465.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Night-blooming-cereus-628x420.jpg 628w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>Also known as the “Queen of the Night”, fans of this plant have actually thrown parties in the bloom’s honor. This is mainly due to the fact that it only actually blooms for one night every year in June or July. It opens at nightfall and closes at the first hint of the morning sun.</p>
<p>Additionally, some people believe this rare plant is so popular because it arguably has one of the best scents in the world. Found in the desert, this fragrant, cream-white, waxy flower lives in the desert. It can grow to be up to eight inches long and four inches wide. It’s trumpet-shaped and has numerous pedals.</p>
<p><b><span style="color: #191e23;">(Continued on next page)</span></b></p>
<h3>1. The Buddhist Udumbara</h3>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="730" height="487" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-5321" alt="" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Buddhist-Udumbara.jpg" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Buddhist-Udumbara.jpg 730w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Buddhist-Udumbara-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Buddhist-Udumbara-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Buddhist-Udumbara-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px" /></p>
<p>The word udumbara is Sanskrit, for “an auspicious flower from heaven.” According to an ancient Buddhist legend, this flower only blossoms every 3000 years. It is said it last bloomed prior to the birth of Buddha.</p>
<p>Also believed to have been “sent from heaven,” this flower was discovered in 2010 by a Chinese nun and has been spotted more frequently in the past few years. Despite their tiny size, they have a surprisingly good scent. It is perhaps one of the best examples of just how beautiful and interesting the world in which we live can truly be if we take time to stop and smell the roses.</p>
