Indeed, Anthenea even respects seabeds. It sits upon the water and uses a special sand-screw anchoring system that anchors Anthenea without negatively impacting the environment or underwater ecosystem. It is eco-responsible and even 100 percent recyclable.  

The pod comes complete with officially certified black and gray water stations. It actually produces what it uses and releases nothing but clean water. What’s more, this floating pod runs on solar energy.

“Let the Sunshine In”

Anthenea is fed by solar power. A special energy sensor dome provides the pod with hot water and electricity too. The pod’s central well provides it with natural air conditioning as well.

The pod’s spherical shape is actually based on the scientific principle of surface tension found even in nature. Experts confirm that the pod is “the optimal form of resistance” to the various “extreme conditions on the water.” The pod’s effective “shape and lift on the water” tech and the peripheral crown essentially enhances the pod’s stability making it significantly “more stable than a boat.” Additionally, “the mass stability is added to the form stability.”

Tired of Too Many Tourists?

The pod also addresses tourist congestion. The Anthenea is what some might call a seagoing hotel suite. Others call it “a water-based mobile home.” Whatever you choose to call it, this pleasure pod is surprisingly luxurious.

Pods also include “automatic butterfly door” openings. The roof is fitted with solar panels. It has a circular shape that was specifically designed to actually follow the rays of the sun.

It also features an element-ready reclining, motorized sunshade roof which switches automatically to accommodate the direction of the wind. Thus, the bedroom and living room are both naturally ventilated. The pod features a removable Solarium windshield which can also be utilized to actually create another room.  

Indeed, both the design choices and equipment were reportedly “inspired by natural elements.” The design includes an unforgettable 360-degree design that allows guests to enjoy seeing the ocean from anywhere inside the dome-shaped pod. The bedroom here features a comfy, extra-large round bed and the bathroom includes a unique tub guests can fill with their choice of freshwater or seawater.  

There is also a lovely living space and even kitchen accommodations. Those in the know claim one of the best parts of the pod is the “outdoor seating area that can accommodate” a dozen guests. Imagine the view of the dolphins and other sea sights.

Home automation is also an option. Guests can control the opening and lighting from a smartphone or digital tablet. In fact, a guest can reportedly control all of the pod’s “on-board automation” and pretty much optimize the environment to suit his or her personal lifestyle.

The Name Is Ducancelle, Jean-Michel Ducancelle

The first pod was made in France and designed by a well-known architect.  It was the brainchild of naval architect Jean-Michel Ducancelle. He was actually inspired by the fictional British secret agent James (007) Bond’s floating pod seen in the classic 1977 motion picture known as The Spy Who Loved Me.  

 For a quarter of a century, he focused on providing mankind with “a life in an immersive marine and submarine world.” As our coastlines continued to become more crowded in terms of construction, he looked to the sea and the concept of a “floating habitat.” He met with industrial visionary Jacques-Antoine Cesbron, and the dream became a reality Anthenea was born.
