Caladesi Island is both pristine and secluded and neighbors Honeymoon Island. It is accessible via private boat or ferry. It’s an exceptional alternative to popular Clearwater Beach, which is generally quite crowded. Highlights include the historic Scharrer Homestead, the Bayside Mangrove Forest, and, of course, a genuine state park complete with floating camping docks. (Mind you, the camping docks reportedly “go fast” so you had best make your reservations ASAP.)

Santa Rosa Beach

This 40-mile barrier island is less than 30 miles away from the Alabama border. Technically, Santa Rosa Beach comprises three smaller romantic and relaxing beaches: Navarre, Pensacola, and Okaloosa. Lounge on the beach and take in the view or spend the day taking long walks on the piers here. Enjoy a romantic dinner and some live music in the Fort Pickens area. Best time not to visit? During hurricane season, as it is especially susceptible to cyclones.

Dry Tortugas

Finally, 70 miles from Key West, is the remote Dry Tortugas. This is one of the state’s best national parks. Take the two-hour boat ride or climb aboard a seaplane to this 100-square-mile island.
