Indeed, In fact, you’ll discover the nation’s tallest sand dune, the Star Dune, right here. It is 750 feet high. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Adrenaline junkies may wish to rent a snowboard, a sled, or even skis and go racing down the high sandy slopes. Hike the Mosca Pass trail, once used by Native Americans to travel through the forests of the San Luis Valley to the lesser-known Wet Mountain Valley. Go off-roading from the park to the nearby town of Gardner on Medano Pass too. The best time to visit is from May to June.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16421" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-3.jpg" alt="" width="666" height="500" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-3.jpg 666w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-3-559x420.jpg 559w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-3-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/3-3-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 666px) 100vw, 666px" /></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">More athletic visitors hike the rim of the canyon. The unmarked hiking trails are rightfully reserved for expert hikers. Be sure to see the Painted Wall. It’s named for the detailed white-pink markings on the near-famous 2,300-foot-tall cliff. Visit in the summer!</span></p>
<p><strong>(Continued on next page)</strong></p>
<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mesa Verde National Park</span></h2>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Facts For Travelers Visiting The National Parks </span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16424" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/facts.jpg" alt="Colorado" width="960" height="640" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/facts.jpg 960w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/facts-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/facts-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/facts-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/facts-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As you may have already surmised, Colorado is home to only four national parks: Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Mesa Verde National Park, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Nevertheless, travel writers generally agree that you should set aside between one week and 10 days to truly hit all the must-see highlights at all four parks. In fact, if you are up for it, book campsites and do some camping and you’ll have a better chance of seeing more of the parks’ wildlife.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While the best times to visit have previously been noted, here are a few more personalized suggestions. If you really want to avoid the crowds, the quieter months are generally April and May. On the other hand, if you enjoy colder weather and are accepting of potentially having limited access to these parks, visit from October to December and enjoy the wild winter wonderland with even fewer fellow travelers present. Finally, if you really hope to spot more wildlife and prefer the best weather conditions, hit the parks in late May through the middle of October.</span></p>

<h2><span style="font-weight: 400;">Access, Passes, And Permits In Colorado</span></h2>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-16425" src="https://addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/access-1.jpg" alt="" width="673" height="505" srcset="https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/access-1.jpg 673w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/access-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/access-1-560x420.jpg 560w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/access-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.addtobucketlist.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/access-1-265x198.jpg 265w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 673px) 100vw, 673px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">National and state parks generally have entrance fees. Colorado’s national parks are no exception. The entrance pass often allows a driver and a specific number of passengers into the park. Mind you, there are a number of different passes available.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Choose your pass based on the number of days you plan on spending in the park, the number in your group, and your method of transport. Some parks, like <a href="https://addtobucketlist.com/hikes-rocky-mountain-national-park/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rocky Mountain National Park</a>, require visitors to first get a “timed entry” reservation. You can get passes at the park’s entrance station or online.</span></p>
