77. Lake Natron, Tanzania

Lake Natron in Tanzania’s Gregory Rift in the Arusha Region is one of the planet’s most alkaline and saltiest lakes. This lake is topped with a crust of salt that is often tinted red. The temperature of the water in Lake Natron regularly reaches 120°F or 50°C in certain areas, Add this the actual alkalinity, and the lake is practically unfit for life. In fact, only three types of fish have adapted to the extreme living conditions.
