18. The Amazon Rainforest, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia

The rainforest here is reported to contain no less than 10 percent of the planet’s biodiversity. The largest tropical rainforest on the planet, it stretches over 3.4 million square miles in part of five different nations. To date, much of it remains inaccessible to man. Some have nicknamed the areas “the lungs of the Earth” because the thriving plant life sucks in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen. It can seem especially spooky because the ground is in darkness due to the canopy’s thickness.

17. The Crooked Forest, Poland

Discovered just outside of Nowe Czarnowo in West Pomerania, the origin of this forest of 400 strangely-shaped trees remains a mystery. Planted sometime in the 1930s, they grow with a distinct 90-degree bend at their bases. Most are bent in a northerly direction. There are a few theories about how this forest came to be. The most popular theory is that a change in the gravitational pull or some gradational force in the region made the trees bend. Another popular theory is that the trees could have possibly been flattened by a heavy snowfall when they were but small saplings. Click On the Next Button to See Next.
