In 2014, Facebook’s co-founder, CEO, and chairman, Mark Zuckerberg bought the Kahu’aina Plantation on the island’s North Shore. He paid $66 million dollars for the 357-acre property. He purchased an extra 350 acres of the adjacent Pila’a Beach for just under $50 million. In 2016 he upset the locals when they put up a wall around their property. Also that same year, Mike Fleiss, creator of “The Bachelor” TV show, paid Julia Roberts $16.2 million for an oceanfront property there. Katharine McPhee, star of “Scorpion,” vacationed on the island just last year.
