Waianapanapa Beach, Hawaii

Found in popular Waianapanapa State Park, on Maui, this black sand beach includes a rocky-coast-lined private cove.  The ebony sand provides a noteworthy contrast to the clear turquoise Pacific waters.  Stroll down the coast to see the various volcanic formations born of crashing waves on hot lava from the Haleakala volcano.  See the huge sea stacks towering out of the water and the natural blowholes caused by the force of the ocean striking everything before it.

Baixa d’Areia, The Azores

Get away to the secluded beach known as Baixa d’Areia is situated on the southern coast of São Miguel island.  Nestled in an intimate ravine near a little fishing village named Caloura, it is a favorite of the locals.  Experience the unspoiled beauty of nature here.

See the nearby vineyard and the ebony basalt walls.  Veteran visitors suggest seeing another popular black sand beach, Populo, too.  If you’re vacationing there travel experts recommend staying at the Caloura Hotel Resort.
